Kathleen is the first artist I have watched who has explained the reason for using a staining paint. I've tried avoiding them but now I have better understanding when to use them.

I saw your comment before I watched, so I was curious about this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, as I am not sure I''d have really caught it otherwise, because yeah, why have I never heard this before? That was so helpful!

Here’s living proof that watching tutorials from anybody under, o say, forty years of age, is largely pointless if you really want to learn from an artist that has done the reps and knows their stuff. Although of course this young lady is only twenty one, and so the exception to the rule! Masterful, and watercolour is such a difficult medium. The information on staining colours was gold!

Watching from Georgia. I couldn’t watch live but this is really helpful. Kathleen mentioned not wanting to see the pencil lines. What about artist grade watercolor pencil rather than graphite? Maybe in a matching color?
@kathleengiles54212 жыл бұрын
Trish, I think the pencil would blur when brushing across the paper but you could certainly try it.

Ms Giles, This technique is so interesting. I've watched the video twice now and probably will again. I like the three color palette and the layering and am anxious to try it. I, too, use Arches 300 much of the time because I'm not crazy about stretching paper. I assume you use various reds, blues and yellows, depending on the subject. Is their a base triad of primary colors to begin with?
