The reason you might not recognize some characters at times is because the game has a lot of customization to make your fighters unique! Thats why Kano is a cyborg in this one

fun fact, Shang Tsung's is a direct copy of his Friendship in MK2, the first in the series to have friendships. He did the exact same thing.

they did not go to therapy, they went to medical teams to help understand the design for inside organs and body locations for the bone x-rays which is a thing too, each character has an x-ray attack

Raiden's is a reference to two different events. Kidd Thunder was a friendship in MK3 where he is just summoned and the "Kidd Thunder!" Voice plays out. The dancing is a nod to a dance crew that appeared on America's Got Talent that did break dancing cheography in Mortal Kombat costumes using the dance routine to mimic fatalities.

I think I saw or read somewhere that the idea for the friendship endings was to poke fun or to clown all the critics that were against fatalities and the controversy of being too violent. How ridiculous it would be to offer a friendship after defeating ur opponent. MK2 was where they made their debut. Also appeared in MK3. Then disappeared until finally coming back until MK11 which was a very nice surprise.🎉

your chat is confused with Frost. she is not of the Lin Kuei. She's been ousted / removed from the lin kuei, but she things that she can do better than them, and wants to "recreate it in her own image" so... thats why she still wears those colors.

Shang Tsung's is actually a call back to his classic Friendship, it's just an updated version of the one he had when they first introduced the concept. Same for Baraka...except he just pulled out a cake back in the day and didn't do anything to it, Raiden's as well with Kid Thunder...just now updated to be more modern.

Sub-Zero's Grandmaster Blueberry Ice(cream) is a reference to one of his intros with Johnny Cage, plus a followup with the Joker. (Kano and his barbeque sausage also refers to an intro.) You have to appreciate the Disney sandcastle, or the Joker trying to reverse his Fatalities and Friendships.

9:54 ... Baraka's Friendship is actually an homage to the pizza scene in the very first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie where Leo slices up a pizza in midair and a slice lands on Splinter's head. Oh, and Johnny Cage's Friendship is a reference to the WB's mascot, Michigan J. Frog, who sings and dances. #TheMoreYouKnow

The best thing about friendships and babalities, is that it gives players the choice to make peace with their enemies. The fatalities being more popular proves that the game isn't forcing players to kill anyone.

Series creator Ed Boon described Friendships as "anti-Fatalities". They were introduced in the second game back in the day as a way of making fun of the over-the-top media reaction to the violence in the first game.

People talking about the references in friendships but I haven't seen any comment about Scorpion - his friendship is a reference to Mk9 (2011) challenge tower which consisted of 300 different fights. One of which was goofy about Mileena making a teddy bear fpr Scorpion. And Scorpion says that he hates teddy bears
