Here’s a little motorized bicycle that looks like a Honda NSR. I made it in an easy-bake oven using mostly ends of yarn and old newspapers. It has a slightly rough appearance and stinks a little bit like something dead, but still serves up plenty of smiles.
I’ll be building more of these and making them available for everyone who’s me, or my sons. So if you’re me or my sons, then yes I’ll build one for you next. And if you’re my sons, then tell Mom that Gloria’s here and she wants to know if they’re still walking tonight because the weather channel said it might rain and she still has to pick up cat food before the grocery store closes and she said if Mom’s going that she should wear the purple sweater so they match outfits. So please go upstairs and tell Mom all that cause I’m going out for a ride with Owen.

@@landosaquatics Truth. Riding a motorized bicycle is like a heterosexual man wearing a pink shirt. Takes a big set of balls and you gotta be damn sure of yourself before you step out in the public streets. And despite the advantage of having them classified as bicycles, thinking of these as just bicycles is dangerous. You wouldn’t ride a full size bike with a a questionable frame, or an engine mount loose, or a sprocket out of alignment, or one of the brakes not working... but Joe Blow I’ve-built-a-few-motorized-bikes does that, and then tries to say that motorized bikes are dangerous.... Building bikes keeps me sane! It allows me to create problems and then solve them. It gets me away from everybody and allows me to be creative. If I didn't have bikes in my life I don't know where I'd be right now... Keep your head up and keep doing what you're doing. Hopefully one day you can get a little wire feed welder from harbor freight and learn to weld. The amount of projects that you will be able to do with welding are endless and will greatly expand your creativity. Hey man. Bike life is where it’s at. It occurs to me now that one of the major reasons we love bikes is the complete and total control over every aspect of the hobby. My hands, my ideas, every bolt and nut, all decisions made by me, and me alone. If you’re wise, you’re cognizant of your fragility and mortality, and you recognize that most natural forces are greater than the sum of you. Seems simple enough, but extrapolate that meaning to other areas of life and you begin to understand that you’re also impotent to affect change in any of these areas. The old saying “Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the strength to change those things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference between the two” seems poignant here. It’s said that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and if God is nature, then fear of the power of nature is also the beginning of wisdom. Now here’s where bikes come in; Dangerous. Fast. Exhilarating. Just like life. Bikes are a perfect metaphor for the struggle of man to control his own destiny amidst a churning sea of forces that are literally trying to consume him. That’s you, that’s me. Like two tiny little leaves floating down the river of time - and not panicking and scrambling to keep our noses above water - but surfing the waves, soaking in the sights and revelling in the feeling of a moment of control, that really almost shouldn’t even be possible. Ya man. Bike life. Ride therapy. It’s real. Thanks for your thoughts bro. This right here has always been my favourite part of being a youtuber.

Indeed. The fairing has to actually direct more air to the engine than it would normally get without the fairing, or it’d burn up right quick. And no idling. If the bike isn’t moving for more than 10 seconds, it has to be shut down. So far I’ve ridden about 3-4 hours on it, and it’s doing fine. Hey just thought you might be interested in an update on the fairing/cooling on the bike. Mostly I’m running stop sign to stop sign with short sections of full throttle here and there, and it’s staying cool. Even after 30 minutes of pretty hard running it smells normal, idles nice and low and pulls hard right from the bottom, maintains it’s power through the middle and hits max rpm even against slopping ground and wind. @@ManiacRacing Address the driveline issue on you LD100 and find out why it hunts and chatters, then come back and talk to me about how much practical knowledge you’ve gained from 13 years of motorized bike riding. To be frank, I’m not impressed with your skills and a little annoyed that you feel so free to offer criticisms on important stuff like frames and strength, when your own bikes are in need of overhauls, and clearly nowhere close to the same level of bike that I routinely build. You might think I’m being a jerk. I am, and I’m doing it on purpose. This little faux-NSR is a bodacious and innovative bike, race ready and capable of competing with any stock 66cc in the entire world. To suggest that you have anything more than a guess of what’s going on inside it is a bit silly, and to believe that you and I are comparable in knowledge and capability, borders on absurd. Don’t expect humility from me. Out of 8+ billion people, I’m the only one in this entire world with the balls and skills to pull off something like this - and ride it without wrecking. Over the years I’ve encountered more than a dozen useless youtube motorized bike builders suffering from the Dunning-Krueger effect. Guys like James Piccone, who can’t tune a carb or build a safe bike that’s suitable for his body size and roads he rides. Guys like Johnny’s motorized bikes who pay so little attention to basic maintenance that the bikes fall apart in less than a handful of rides. Guys like La Hover who learn a simple concept and then assume he’s on the same level as ultra experienced bike guys. Guys like MBR Ride like you stole it who criticize bike builds, then ride an overpowered aluminum frame with no brakes on the public roads. Bruh, I’m the last guy you want to engage in this manner. You came to me suggesting that you’re some kind of a journeyman builder, but your bikes do not show that. A better way to talk to me might have been by saying that you’re not sure how I managed to make a bike that can be ridden so hard on roads that look like a third world war zone, keep up with traffic and look like an actual full size road bike - and do it every day. One last thing; I do appreciate kind words, but I don’t need them to feel like I’m worth something, and not interested in the slightest when they come with thinly veiled insults. Perhaps you and I could chumb around and enjoy each others company, but we’re not off to a good start when you show up with a bike that needs major work and then criticize my own. I don’t expect reverence or genuflecting, but a little more self awareness would help smooth out interactions with strangers, and you aught to know that most of us are going to be highly reactive to any criticism from someone who appears to struggle with the basics.

Incidentally, r/c airplanes is where I discovered hot glue. I used to make profile planes with coroplast and hot glue everything together. Then I built a 40 sized pattern ship that was a lot like an F-86 Sabre, but with the wing amidships. Heavy. Fast. Like super duper fast, and with a pretty high stall speed too. Over time the fuel and vibrations loosened bonds that weren’t properly sealed with heat, so I had to periodically reheat sections here and there. Then I built a whole bunch of planes like that. So when it comes to r/c airplanes and hot glue, I flatly disagree with you. It works, it’s heavy, but if you bond things properly, it lasts. Same for bikes. As for cops and a bike like this.... don’t ride around drunk or stoned and you have nothing to worry about when you get pulled over. The bike is legal, and I’m known to the local police as something of an eccentric bike builder. So long as I don’t flaunt the law, they don’t bother me. Try your hand at making something like this. So many kinds of bikes, so many ways to make a motorized bike more than just a bicycle with a cheap engine kit.

Pretty awesome. The only problem you really can’t compare a motorized bicycle to any motorcycle whatsoever. And one should never do so. They are not motorcycles they are bicycles that weren’t built to have motors on them. I’ve actually built seven motorized bicycles in the last few years. But I also use heavier gauge parts, spokes, axles, bearings, brakes, etc. You mention, this is a dumpster bicycle. That would be the last thing I put a motor on. The last thing. Even the bicycle frames are building now that are designed for Motor. Are not strong enough to have a motor on them. And also the bicycles that had motors on them in the beginning days, failed entirely until they started beefing up the steel and pretty much creating heavy duty parts and frames that would hold up overtime. And yes, of course it’s fun to make a bicycle go on its own power. That’s the quintessential subject line. A Powered bicycle. Also, you mentioned it was legal well it’s only legal if you minimize the speed to 20 mph. Otherwise you’re actually breaking the law if you go faster. And that means you’re not riding it in a legal manner so speed on brother but be careful. These motorized bikes are the most dangerous things on the streets today. Also it needs to be a 49cc engine or smaller To be street legal. Oh, and just because hot glue holds temporarily and seemingly does well enough. I would not trust it out in the weather, and risk my life that this thing is not going to come apart and cause an accident. Usually when parts fly off at high speeds, it tends to unnerve one pretty quickly. Best of luck.

You shouldn’t try to build one. Or ride one. This kind of project is way beyond the capability of most builders to even make a rolling chassis, let alone mess around with any kind of body kit. As for riding, this is only street legal as a technicality in some jurisdictions, and obviously more suited to a race track. In fact, it really only has a place on a closed course, and I’ve already turned down two potential buyers who wanted it for street fun. I’d go further and say that a grown man riding a 20” bike with this much engine either has a death wish or supreme confidence. I haven’t let anyone ride it, and until I meet someone like me, no one else ever will. Over the years I’ve seen a dozen fools get on a little bike like this and wreck right off the bat. I’d even go one step further and say that after having ridden about 5-6 hours on this bike, that it’s such a uniquely difficult bike to handle that it’s worth making a video just to explain that no one should ever try it. Especially if you’re not a mechanic with a shop full of tools and plan on taking it to the racetrack, and riding it yourself. When it comes to the body kit itself and the construction technique, you lack the experience of successfully working with the material, and have very little idea of what’s going on there to be able to offer any opinion of value. The bike already has more than 5 hours of hard riding on roads that you’d expect to see in the Donbass region these days, and it’s not just holding together, but also working like a fairing should, and looking great. I’d say the same as the previous paragraph about your knowledge of motorized bicycle safety. If the bikes you build fall apart due to vibration or frame fatigue, then you’ve forgotten that your little motorcycle is built from bicycle parts and should not have more than 2 or 3hp, and not carry a man who weighs more than 180lbs. The lessons learned from the early days of motorcycling are what guide us through the hobby today, and have taught us important lessons like not putting a 90lbs 6hp single speed engine with no clutch or throttle in an early style bicycle frame barely able to take the weight of a man alone. Yes, to build a little motorcycle like the old days of board track racing would be suicide. On that, you’re about 100 years late with the public safety message. There’s no nice way to say this; this hobby is not suitable for heavy men, not for someone who struggles with a complete mechanical understanding of all things bikes, and epecially not for a guy who can’t ride a full size bike. Motorized bicycles ARE dangerous, and not for most people. If you’re unsure of yourself, keep pedalling.

Excellent question, but no. Nay. Nope. Not. Nadda. Nil. It’s made of foam, not cardboard and despite what you might think, it cools normally. Now you gotta understand that the bike has to be operated normally for it to cool normally. So just like any full size two stroke performance bike, you can’t sit and idle it or rev it up for any length of time. Just like a full size bike with a fairing, the cooling action comes from forward motion. Most full size bikes have a radiator, but that also needs positive airflow to cool effectively. I’ll do an in-depth look at how I setup the fairings on these bikes someday and explain how it works without overheating.

How did you make that little windshield?
@OrneryMouse
@OrneryMouse 11 ай бұрын
Super easy. First step was probably the easiest too. Step three and four were kinda not so easy, but they both felt good. And that’s important. Fairly important, like 66% important, or even more. But only a little bit more if it was more important, but I don’t think so really. Anyhow, let’s get straight to it and I’ll stop rambling. Because nobody really likes it when a guy just goes on and on and on..... and on and on about something nonsensical or wasteful or useless or unimportant. I mean, you could imagine how upset a person could get if he was reading and reading and reading and wondering, when is this guy going to get to the point? Right? Man! I hate it when a guy does that. Especially when you’re face to face and he just won’t shut up, and he’s just droning on and on about his stupid dog and how much it costs to fill his Escalade. And then I’m like “Dude! Those things are incredibly bad on gas and everybody knows it!” Ffs. Ya so about the windshield. Ok, first step is to buy something. You could buy and r/c excavator like I did, and then use the plastic cover from the box, because it’s a fairly thick piece of plastic. You could buy other things too. Just make sure it comes in a box with a plastic window. Then throw away whatever comes in the box cause you can’t use it for the windshield. Trust me, I tried and the excavator doesn’t look right, or block the wind properly. Plus the arm is short cause it’s a toy, so you can’t even use it for digging when it’s tied up on the handlebars like that. And literally everybody said the idea was stupid and that it looked stupid and that I was stupid. So I took it off and just went with the plastic piece cut into a diamond shape and then hot glued onto two pieces of foam that shaped the front fairing. Now the thing that you have to remember when doing this is something that you should never forget. That’s why I’m telling you this, and why I’m stressing how important it is to not forget the most important thing. Just try to keep that in mind while remembering the importance of it, and you’ll probably never forget. Repetition. That’s the key. Say it over and again in your mind and it’ll be locked in there as solidly as walking. Use your inner voice and hear your own self reminding you not to forget. Bammo. Now you’ve got it. Locked in the trap forever and ever amen. Ok man. I think that’s just about all there is to say about how I built that. There might be one or two small unimportant details that I forget to mention, but that pretty much encapsulates the process in a nutshell. Well maybe dufflebag, or a backpack actually. It would probably all fit in a purse too, but it would have to be a large purse. And to be perfectly honest I’ve never found a colour that looked good with anything I wear, plus the idea of a man with a purse is a little bit silly to me, even if it does encapsulate ideas as smartly as it matches a snappy pair of pumps. So good luck and happy trails. I hope it all works out for you. Ciao.

Yoo can you sell the motorcycle foam as a kit I will buy it pls
@OrneryMouse
@OrneryMouse 9 ай бұрын
That’s an idea I’ve kinda tossed around in my mind a bit, and I think is not really possible. First the customer would have to custom fit the parts to his frame, which is almost sure to not be the same as what it would be modelled from. Not impossible, but probably difficult for most people to the point that you’d feel ripped off for the cost of it. Cost is where the idea falls dead. To be worth my while, I’d have to have some kind of mass producing equipment so that I could make a foam kit in less than 30 minutes, and cost less that $10 to produce. Otherwise I’d be flooded with orders that I couldn’t keep up with and spend at least 20 hours of time and at least $50 to make one. I’d be labouring like a dog and lose money, and have a constant stream of upset customers who can’t figure out how to mount the kit and want their money back, plus another group of people who’d somehow think that a $200+ foam body kit should be tougher or more resistant to scuffing and light damage, and after they wreck their brand new bike because it fell over or something, they’d also want their money back. It would be a disaster for me from start to finish. The only realistic way that I could do anything close to making a custom body for someone, is to have that person pay up front for everything including my cut for the work, and then either pick up the bike himself or pay the entire shipping costs - which would be high. So because the cost would include a bicycle, the engine kit.... well everything, that would mean a paypal transaction upwards of $5000. Upfront. You gotta understand that if I didn’t set the price high, I’d be screwing myself. One last thing, if a guy is made of money and likes to collect unique things, then a serious conversation could begin. But that guy would have to understand that he’s basically hiring an incredibly rare artisan to do a one-off custom bike build, and that’s why the price is high, and why the actual cost the bike and quality of the entire machine will be far below that of a brand name motorcycle. That's the reality of a bike like this. It’s weak and cheap compared to something brand name of comparable cost. The good news is that I’ll make another one soon and show a bit more of how I do it, so you can try it yourself and do what I do. That way you’ll spend only about $50, and after a couple of weeks have something that’ll make you really love riding around. You’ll be happier this way, and have more money. Everybody wins.

@@OrneryMouse (comment rewritten. and no need to bully anyone.) are rubber rim brakes okay for that speed?
@OrneryMouse
@OrneryMouse 9 ай бұрын
Yes. There’s a few things to consider, but the short answer is yes. Something not well known is that certain compounds for rubber brake pads are made for certain rim types, so although any given pad can somewhat match up to any given rim, the proper combination will brake better and last longer. Also the rims have to be in near perfect condition. So any bump or burr has to be removed and smoothed out. Pads have to be aligned to run true with the rim and contact the brake surface flatly and evenly on both sides. The combined weight of bike and rider are also a major factor in brake pad life. Any heavier than 220lbs is pushing the limit for safe and effective brakes. Coaster brakes is a big NO! They work, but lack stopping power compared to any other type. But the worst part of a coaster brake is that when they fail, they tend to either lock up completely and stop the rear tire, or just simply don’t stop the bike. When the internal metal pads have worn down the splines.... you can stand on the pedals with all your weight and the bike will just roll along as though you had no brakes at all. Some guys may disagree with my assessment here, but I’m talking from personal experience. Trust me on this, you do not want to know how it feels to go rolling through a 4 corner stop light, standing on the brake with all your might and hoping no cars are coming from the sides. Finally, thanks for starting this interaction over. Some might say I’m thin skinned, but if we meet for the first time and I have to eat a veiled insult, I’m going to react strongly. I’m sure you would too. Anyhow, by-gons be by-gons my friend. Bike life is where it’s at.
