The street photography genre is especially conducive to keeping a minimal/inexpensive gear collection. It's all about seeing, timing and composition.... and sometimes a little luck! I did some nighttime street shooting this past weekend using an old Canon FD28mm f2.8 lens on my X-T3. That lens cost me $30 US. And, it was quite a lot of fun too. Thanks for a fun video, have a great week!

For backup I started using an inexpensive USB On-The-Go SD card reader to access the files with my phone directly, copy the best shots, upload them to the cloud, etc. It also turns empty SD cards into external hard drives.

LR is a time consumer; I prefer to make the frame in camera on site. Great fan of filters for landscape shooting, but usual none on street. A 50/1.4 coupled to my range finder camera is my daily set up. Many photographers are carrying a rucksack/backpack, but I've only a small camera bag for some useful stuff as snacks, pens, notebook, lens cloth, spare battery. The camera is very handy always at my hands. I regret, most, that I bought first a Canon and then a Sony camera before I got an RF. Both Canon and Sony are too slow for me; I'm perfectly comfortable with my RF with almost no auto setting options. Keep on rolling.

Number one new thing you don’t need to buy for street photography is a new camera! 😂. I’m currently fighting this urge. I am using a Leica TL2 but some of the Fuji and Leica m10 cameras are REALLY calling my name. I know I’m better off spending money on a class or so then buying new gear

The comment “you worry more about the focal length and less about the framing” is so spot on. I moved from a zoom to a fixed lens and feel like that i freed myself.

Great video with some sound advice. I would question your advice about lenses though, probably better to recommend a 50mm or 40mm (FF) to start as 28mm requires not only a good concept of composition, but also layering. And if we are talking about cheapest kit, these focal lengths are usually to lowest in cost.

1. Munich 🙂 (check my thumb nail) 2. I love your use case with the RF 100-500 and the squirrel 3. Gear wise my primary recommendation is a body with a display you can swivel to enable your eyes' control while shooting low/high/ ... perspectives (if not done blind with prefocus. This brings me to an additional point: 4. Try to use a mechanical MF lens, especially when it comes to 28mm (best with focus stick/focus tab) to bring your zone focus skills to the next level. 50mm might better be done with AF.

Munich, of course, where else? Thank you!😊 You are right, a flexible screen to shoot from all perspectives, is great, like in the Fuji x100v . The mechanical lens is an good idea. The ones who master shooting manual are and will be the true Street Photographers, i really admire Alan Schaller i.e. for his skills here.

I sold my Q2 because I didn't take any other pictures with it than with my x100V. I sold my x100V because what I photograph can be done with any other camera and the hype is getting on my nerves terribly. At the moment I'm shooting low key monochrome with a Pen-F and 35+24mm and clicking around with a GX80 and 40mm... but... an X-T5 in silver with a manual Voigtländer 27mm 2.0 in silver would be nice...next year at 3 a.m. if it rains at 4 a.m

Hallo! Gut Licht!

By definition UV filters affect sunlight which is the archenemy of fungus, the last thing you want on the inside of a lens. Yet many photographers have a UV filter installed permanently on their lenses, even when not mounted on their camera. As for me, no UV filters and stored lenses are on a shelf pointed toward windows to maximize sunlight.

A decent strategy- but dust is no friend of lenses and UV is no friend for some materials.

What do i regret purchasing? Everything except my Nikon D80 and a 50mm prime lens in my old camera bag. When i restarted my photographic journey during the pandemic i just got a new camera body, a 45mm prime lens and a couple of extra batteries :D What I do regret NOT bying, warm gloves! Went out shooting yesterday in the freezing cold in the north of sweden and well... Sony said the camera can take about -40 celsius, I now know my fingers can't take -10 for a couple of hours.

I can't believe that I've to spend 400-500 bucks for a useful UV filter. I use a B&W filter, which is not bad. And yes, my lens is quite expensive and I'd rather accept a minimal and not really visible decrease in image quality before I use my lens without protection.

Great Video. Can you guess my opinion on lens filters? LOL! I've been lucky as many of my purchased items in the recent years have been well researched prior to buying. Although I have had G.A.S. in the past, I think I am at a point where I buy something because I want it, not because I think it will make me a better photographer, street or otherwise. Then again, I am in my 50's and my camera collection is way overkill for a hobbyist. First video of yours that I have watched and subscribed. Look forward to seeing what else you have on your channel.

Ok for what you say Yes it does makes sense, However for you do say NOT TO USE A UV Filter, I have to say that Your Wrong - And here is Why? I have been doing Photography since 1972, and my first camera was a Praktica, and Yes It did not have no filter, but I had to pay the price, that lens that I was using was SHARP, and good contrast, But I got a Nikon instead, and been using it ever since as I left City College, and the other art school that my cameras HAS UV filters, and they are still on them, and also Sir I have been doing street photo since then when I heard the names of Stephen Shore, and Joel Meyerowitz, and Martin Parr those were my teachers. Remember this 1978, and after that I got at a Camera Store in San Francisco - work there for 33 years, and I was told from my customers in which their were Professional Photographers to protect your lenses as it was an Investment OK. And when working there I have see when students bringing their lenses as it was in SORRY ASS Shape as Oil Residue, Dust, Fingerprints, a Scratch on the Glass Element maybe as even BUGS! because why? Because some photo teacher told them that they are not needed. I said to that teacher: "Your Wrong" As seeing this lens in this sorry ass condition that the students did not have you Fired(In Which he Was-ahhh) As telling him with the Owner of the store was with me that this lens can achieved more damage like Coating Discoloring, Scratches, and worse that the AF gears could effect the operation - A Filter Saves the front element. As it does not matter if the lens is a Nikon or a Leica, and remember Lenses ARE NOT CHEAP from $400 to $4000! as the old saying goes: "You Pay Now or You Pay Later-Much LATER" And you wrong about UV filters, I use them alot in shooting, film, and digital, it protects the lens, and it does nor effect the image. And also Yes that is Backpack in which it is consider a Shoulder bag to carry your gear, as for me I just use an ordinary Canvas Shoulder Bag with NO Logos that prevents Theft's. And last my DSLR is a Fujifilm S5Pro in which the lenses that I have been using are my NIKON Manual Focus Lenses that I have been using since, and that goes for my Mirrorless models XE1 & XPro1 in which they are 11 years old via Adapter, and have use them in manual, and Auto since that they are Aperture Mode as it does not show ANY problems with a UV Filter on it. So in ending your video is your Opinion, But my lenses are still sharp with the UV Filters - Or get your eyes check, and that is MY Opinion as I have 51 years in what I have learn, and experience saying to you this...

@xtra9996
@xtra9996 9 ай бұрын
