Great video and awesome shots - this was my camera back in 1981 when I was a teenager, still got it in fact, you’ve inspired me to dig it out and run a roll of film thru it, thanks for that!

My best friend at school had one of these on a school trip, I took our trusty family kodak instamatic, his camera looked the business and the photos he brought in later were far better than my efforts! I keep seeing these going for really tempting prices like £25. Looking at your photos and what it is capable of, I might just have to add one to my collection. 👍

I must say I enjoyed this video. A trip 35 is on my list and I’ll hopefully pick up one soon . I’m envious of the light you get . In Ireland we have a LOT of very dull cloudy days

We average 300+ sunny days a year. But sometimes summers are a bit rough with 110-115 degree days 🔥 even at night it’ll be 100.

I bought another one having first used one in the early 80s while working as a photographer at a Butlins hotel they are great fun to use the zone focusing is fairly easy to get used to I found it forgiving if your thinking about one do it lens is sharp and easy to use I am looking forward to putting more rolls of film through it 👍🏻

Great video and pics 👍 I inherited a fifty year old Trip 35 recently and you have helped to inspire me to give it a try. The only thing stopping me from trying this before was the cost of film. Last time I bought some in the early 2000's it was £2 ($3) per roll, the same roll of film now costs six times that price. I suppose the main advantage is that I can concentrate on the composition so maybe my photography skills will improve, I also will look forward to seeing the developed film when the roll is full (might even try developing film myself perhaps, I've always wanted to try that 🤔) I'm too used to digital cameras, taking loads of pictures and hoping I can process something usable. All your compositions look wonderful, I'm gonna have fun trying the different types of film also. Thank you.

Did you end up getting some film? crazy how literally all Kodak 35mm are out of stock everywhere right now. good thing I have a little stash to get me through. Good thing there’s plenty of black and white. And yeah I started developing at home and it’s been a blast. There’s an initial investment and learning curve but totally worth it. And once you start shooting again you’ll notice you’re more selective with what you capture. And in my opinion you come out with better pictures just because more thought was out into it.

Is it just me or maybe the film you used but it seems like the color saturation of the photos is less than the video. Maybe it's just the different formats are going to render differently. I'm extremely new to film photography and trying to learn. Thanks for a great video about a camera that has been piquing my curiosity for a couple weeks!

It was just my scanning technique. I usually have my colors less saturated. Also GoPro footage usually tends to have more saturation in general. It’s an awesome camera, definitely recommend

I had one. A great camera! Unfortunately, it broke beyond repair. My only small regret is that I would have preferred a 35mm lens. With good film, the quality of the lens was good enough to allow for some cropping if the angle would have been too wide with 35mm.

I had one of these, I think I purchased it in 81/82, I loved it, I had a Sunpak flash for it, took some amazing photos with it, unfortunately, I left all the photos in the loft of my house when I left my wife, big regret, she had never taken a photo in her life, and when my children were older, like 35, she presented them with an album of their life, which they then showed me, and I had taken all of the shots, Bastard…..

A 45mm is ok for street photography, but you have to get a bit too close sometimes. That’s ok if YOU are extroverted but shy old me likes a 100 or 135mm buffer.

Long lenses do create a beautiful and unique depth of field for street, but I’m a sucker for wide lenses. I’ll usually shoot 28 to 40

You use 400 ISO film, but you say in the video that you read it as 200? Do you mean that you set the camera to ISO 200 on the lens and not 400?
@analoguetravels

Yes! I rated it at 200 on the camera. So I overexposed it by a stop and developed it normal.

Nice video - can I ask why you set the camera to 200 with 400 film? Would the pics have been underexposed if you set to 400?
@analoguetravels
@analoguetravels 2 жыл бұрын
Color negative film can handle a few stops of over exposure just fine. It’s under exposure where it really struggles. So sometimes on point and shoot type cameras I like to overexpose by a stop since I know I don’t have much control over settings.

Place some items at the same distance as the distances on your lens, get a feel for those distances and practice guessing. Soon enough you’ll be able to judge pretty good out on the street

I really love all of them!!! Congrats from Brazil. i'd like to ask you: Why you rated the film at 200? And you did this at the momento of the shooting or in the revelation process? What effect it makes? And... You use manual or automatic? Sorry for the bad bad english.
@analoguetravels
@analoguetravels 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I did it in the moment of shooting. So on the camera I set the ASA at 200 instead of 400. What this does is it lets more light in. By using 200 the camera thinks it needs more light so it uses a wider aperture when set to auto. Color negative film handles over exposure very well so I always recommend to overexpose by a stop or half a stop! hope that helps!

Do you recommend Yashica MF-2 point and shoot or the Olympus trip 35 for a beginner?
@analoguetravels
@analoguetravels 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never used the MF-2 but I know it has a built in pop up flash, uses AA batteries which are easy to find. But I it’s a fixed focus F4 lens. so you won’t have any control over the focus distance. But for a beginner that might work out though so you can focus more on composition, pun intended. I personally would still pick the trip because I like zone focusing. And it’s pretty durable. It doesn’t have a built in flash and the cells could stop working in the light meter but I’m super happy with the quality I get from the Trip.

@analoguetravels
@analoguetravels 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Taking portraits without permission is a part of street photography. That specific moment was a part of life and I wanted to capture that, especially since he had the mask in his hands which spoke to our current pandemic. He was looking down the whole time which gave anonymity in the image which is why I took the shot.
@bchoward0000
@bchoward0000 3 жыл бұрын
@@analoguetravels I get that it's legal and that capturing moments is part of street photography, and it was a nice composition. Doesn't make it right (at least for me). It's one thing if you're seriously dedicated to documenting the plight of the homeless, or if you bought the guy dinner afterwards and listened to his story. But if you're just taking a casual shot for KZfaq likes, it seems cheap and lazy to me. One ought to be able to find the elements you like about the shot without taking advantage of someone else's misfortune. But that's for me. Everyone gets to draw their own line.
