Indiana & Ohio Railway short line. Leaving the Seagrams distillery industrial spur then street running in downtown Lawrenceburg, Indiana! Also a HUGE CSX mixed freight with a DPU goes right down the middle of the street while cars cross multiple railroad crossings right in front of the locomotives. Catching the local at the historic distillery is very difficult. A school got to wait for the train crossing US50 on the distillery spur. Lucky kids! The short local Train 881 had to wait for the huge Train 576. The conductor on the 81 train had to hand switch the track after the 576 passed. I filmed both trains from opposite sides of the tracks to make it interesting. CSX owns the tracks and I&O has trackage rights. This CSX line runs from Louisville, Kentucky to Cincinnati, Ohio. Road freights are directional and only run from Louisville to Cincinnati. Trains running from Cincinnati to Louisville use a different line called The Short Line or LCL Sub. Filmed March 7, 2019. Real people, no actors. JawTooth reserves the right to recreate some scenes with railroad employees and equipment. Thanks for watching! Please comment, rate and SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!!

Love the video Brian! I don’t know how far west on route 50 your willing to go, but a rarity is happening the next 3 days on the CSX Illinois Sub on the St. Louis side. The Illinois Sub has been mothballed for over 4 years. 210 rail cars were stored since last year and are all being retrieved. 10 mph running and all crossings being flagged. This seems like a good job for the Jawtooth to document!

So the exact area is from East St. Louis to Shattuc Illinois all on US Route 50. The line is severed at the BNSF diamond and a huge cut of cars is sitting directly West of there. There is also a passing Siding in Aviston completely full of cars as well. The plan is to take power from ESTL on Wednesday and make return trip Thursday and or Friday. All moves MUST be made during the day. Here is a link on more info. indianarailroads.org/board/index.php?topic=19186.280

There is something similar to this street running track in Shakopee, Minnesota. In downtown Shakopee, the train tracks cut right through the middle of town. Those tracks are owned and operated by Union Pacific Railroad. There are 10 crossings and only 3 of them have gates. Shakopee has wanted to make that area a quiet zone for a long time, but that would cost a lot of money because of all the crossings that need upgrades to make it a quiet zone. So it's better if it's not a quiet zone.

I love the little squirrel that ran across the tracks around 3:39! The Indiana & Ohio Railway color scheme and units are identical to our San Joaquin Valley Railroad down in the San Joaquin Valley. I've noticed that scheme in several other shortline railroads around the country. Do you have any info about that? Also those people who pull up, see a train approaching, and then decide to cross-wow. Don't worry folks, I'm sure the train will stop for you guys.

As a Brit I find it completely fascinating how the US still has street running and, like many other countries, has no form of physical barrier between the tracks and people. If I had to guess I'd say 99.9% of all tracks in the UK have some form of fencing either side of the tracks, even out in the the countryside. I've certainly never seen any sections of track without fencing. And apart from two cases where leisure only trains have to share bridges with road traffic (a narrow-guage in Porthmadog, Wales and a standard-guage in Preston, England) there is no longer any form of street running in the UK. The last two street runs were the harbour line in Weymouth, England - closed to regular services in the late 80s and any use in the late 90's - and a small freight only section in Manchester, England - which was actually next to the street rather than sharing the road (the track has now been ripped up and the only surviving traces are at level crossings). I was in Modesto, California, a few years ago and would go out to watch the trains, much to the bemusement of the Americans I was with) rolling right through the middle of the town with absolutely no physical barrier between myself or the trains.
@BrokenFootRailfan
@BrokenFootRailfan 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, out this way there are no barriers. Down in Fresno, California, where I go to do my shopping, people regularly get hit by trains at crossings. Train horns are not allowed at some of the crossings so I'm sure that accounts for a lot of the accidents. But two weeks ago, a child was killed when his family's minivan stopped on the tracks in traffic and was hit by an Amtrak train, and that crossing did have a train horn. It was just carelessness, sadly.

Well, in places like India, Pakistan, USA, and other, similar, "Uncivilized countries", it's called "Culling the Herd", where if you are mentally deficient enough to step in front of a moving train, a truck, or cross a runway with an oncoming airliner, or stick your middle finger in the barrel of a biker's 12 Gauge Mossberg, You'll learn quickly, NEVER to do it again! Whereas, in GB, Can.(which Italians call Uppa U S,), where you should all eat with rubber utensils, so you can't get a lobotomy with a metal one, and practically should have vehicles with foot thick bubble wrap protection ALL AROUND, but sad to say you have NOT YET built steel domes over your countries to protect against Asteroid hits! And here I thought you were determined to protect your people from stupidly endangering themselves by going outside of foam padded rooms! SORRY, scratch the airplane comment, because Harriers, and Helicopters can land STRAIGHT DOWN !!! Better BAN them too. Don't want your people getting sore necks, from watching up above themselves too.

The monstrous trains that block crossings reminds me of my grandfather, who was chief of police and later elected numerous times as precinct constable. If a train blocked the crossing in my small burg of 5,000 for more than five minutes, and he was stuck at the crossing, he was out of that 1947 Chevy with the zhoop aerial on the back bumper and into the yardmaster's office, which was by said rail crossing. Small town and with both crossings being blocked, law enforcement and the volunteer fire department had to have access to the eastern side of town. In those days, it was a busy SP line. 13 tracks, switch engine, PFE ice rack, car repair shed, signal men who rode those motor cars up and down the line, roundhouse complete with turntable. Trains could continue north/south to Dallas/Houston, or take the route to San Antone and west towards LA or back to East St. Louis, I think it was. Those were the 'Blue Streak' freights. Within the city limits, the SP and MoP shared an interlock. The MoP ran east/west and about five or so miles west of my home town, Mop trains could continue east/west or wye north/south to Ft. Worth or Houston and vice versa. It's all gone now. The yard is pretty much deserted. The ice rack was torn down years ago, and sometime in the 60's an overpass was constructed over the tracks. Thanks for allowing me to reminisce, Jaw Tooth.

Glad someone liked my comment. Those long trains can try ones patience, especially if they are moving REAL SLOW. What's worse, if they stop for awhile.
