Norfolk Southern Street Running Train In Ohio! Street Runner Train Is Running Long Hood Forward! 2 Trains Show Up Side By Side At Same Time. One Train Is A Monster With A Union Pacific DPU Locomotive Shoving The Rear. Includes CSX Auto Racks With DPU & Railroad Switching Local Train Taking The Franklin Industrial Lead. Trains In Franklin And Carlisle, Ohio.
First we see the street running train running long hood forward down 6th Street in Franklin, Ohio on the Franklin Industrial Lead. This is where the police had chased a car a couple of days earlier. I saw on the news from the dash cam the police car chased the speeding car down the street running section and the car went into the Great Miami River. There are still car parts here and we see them in the video. Trains use 160.980 on the NS Dayton District. Recently, they started using 160.800 on the Franklin Industrial Lead. CSX uses 160.230 on the Toledo Sub. These are the best frequencies to use at this time.
Before the street running scene the train started out on the mainline showing up in Carlisle at the same time as a gigantic NS train with a DPU. The train with the DPU stopped for about 6 minutes and then proceeded railroad east on the NS Dayton District. After that train passed, the short local went across the railroad crossing and then reversed down the Franklin Industrial Lead. I show it at a railroad crossing in Franklin and then I went across the river and showed it switching Atlas Roofing.
Next, I went to a favorite railroad crossing just a few miles away in Carlisle. A unit train on Norfolk Southern passed eastbound. I think this was a fracking train. It was booking and consisted of covered hopper cars running between Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio. I don't know where it went past Dayton.
At the same crossing less than a hundred feet away is the CSX Toledo Sub. I got a long auto racks train with a DPU booking across the road heading toward Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati and then on to Louisville, Kentucky. This crossing location is a favourite spot for railfans. A couple of other railfans showed up while I was there.
Don't miss the Live Action Pets and see an update on the JawTooth Farm. The corn is gone and the fences are finally being replaced. One of these days my barn will get painted. There is also a special slide show that came out of this video. Ohio only has a few street running areas. Marietta is the best by far and Franklin is second best. I have a couple of street running videos from Marietta in my Street Running Trains play list. Those are a must see!
Filmed Friday, December 15, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

As to your fence project - I know sometimes here in CT, you can have students from a local technical high school do what work you need done. If you have such a school nearby, it might be worth calling them to see if your projects are something they may want to take on. It's a great opportunity for the kids to learn how to do various tasks, and the jobs are done well because they're under teacher's supervision. It's good for you, because not only are you helping to teach kids, the work is usually done at a substantially reduced rate. I'm sure they could do painting as well. It might be worth your while to make that call.

The Norfolk Southern Local running was moving quickly in the street in Franklin, Ohio to get to the location where it was going to do its work. I cannot remember if it was moving as quickly in previous videos that you made of the Local running in the middle of the street here In Franklin, Ohio. Thank you for showing us the Norfolk Southern Local on the mainline before it made its way into Franklin, Ohio to do its work. That portion of the video with the Local holding on the mainline waiting for the manifest train to go past gives us a better idea of what type of delays the Local encounters as it performs its work. The Norfolk Southern and CSX trains that you caught in Carlisle, Ohio were interesting to watch.

I’m almost 60 years old, born in Montgomery, Alabama and raised just outside that city in the country parts of Elmore County. I have memories of how active trains were in those days, something we’re losing to history and progress. There were actually some railroad crossings in the early 1970s that didn’t have a warning barrier arm. When a driver approached such an unmarked crossing, it was his/her responsibility as a motorist to stop completely, look both ways of the tracks, and listen as well. That may sound ludicrous, but folks, you’ve got to remember that was over fifty years ago. In the countryside of Elmore County, Alabama. I also recall at nighttime, when you approached such a crossing, the railroad company employees would ignite these round balls that served as lights to warn drivers. They sort of looked like tennis ball sized black spheres that emitted a bright oversized flame. No joke. 👨🏻‍🦳🇺🇸👍🏻🇺🇸🙂🇺🇸🏈🇺🇸🎸

Glad you enjoyed it and that would be really cool to see this street running scene in HO! I was told that the houses right next to the crossing by the railroad bridge are going to be torn down. They are going to build a restaurant there but it won't affect the street running track. The good news is that the customer who uses the street running track is very busy. Trains go through there at least several times a week.

Street running is rare here in the UK, except on private dockside and industrial lines. There is however, an interesting short section of public street running on the Welsh Highland Railway. If you search Welsh Highland Railway Britannia Bridge on KZfaq, you’ll find several videos of trains on the street in Porthmadog, North Wales. The WHR is a mainly steam operated narrow gauge railway, operated by some interesting articulated locomotive. I hope you enjoy the WHR videos as much as I enjoy yours.

The last public service street running AFAIK was the Weymouth Tramway, which sadly got lifted about a year ago now. Apart from a road/rail vehicle it hadn't see any trains since I believe around the mod 90s. I'd imagine that the track would have been knackered, the sleepers might have been rotten

Glad I could help. Franklin would be a great place to model. It even has a bike trail crossing the track

About 70 years back, I lived across the road from some RR tracks. We had a clear view of a crossing. One day, the arms kept going up and down. At times, the arms came all the way down and stayed. The drivers had to be very frustrated after no train and the arms went back up. Sometimes the arms came part way down and went back up. Or, all the way down, go half way up and go back down. Yard engines were moving cars around and making up trains on the sidings.

I have seen that happen also. They never know for sure if a train is coming. Today I filmed an excavator getting on the tracks and the gates were going up and down and cars were turning around lol

Really cool location Jawtooth! I hope that train crew be a little friendlier than they were to you in the past. Is that lady still the engineer? Great video! Thanks for sharing!👍

Yes it was the same female engineer. The conductor was a different guy. I stayed way back from that crossing when they were reversing so that they wouldn't say something to me like they did twice before. Lol. She doesn't like being filmed so I work around her. The guy who was on the train actually waved to me when the train was leaving Carlisle and that will be in another video. I got a bunch of more trains at that crossing so there will be a Part 2. Btw, I took down the video where the guy came up to me and then called the cops on me, even though I was way off railroad property. I never posted the other one where he called me a name. Lol. The guys who work on that local usually wave to railfans. Its all good.

Awesome catch JT! LHF, coming off a trestle right onto a street is about as good as it gets! If it had a caboose it would have been perfect 😉

Another awesome video! Tearing up the furniture is what cats do 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛😸😸😸 If you're ever down south, I recommend Sulligent, AL., along the BNSF Birmingham sub between Tupelo MS., and Birmingham, AL. Lots of high speed action. (including an occasional MOW train) Also, anywhere along the NS Crescent route. (Tallapoosa, GA. is a nice spot.) Stay safe out there and happy railfanning. 🚂🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃

I live in central Ohio and the other day I seen a coal train come through. However, I couldn’t film any of it. Then today when I was coming home from church, and a train had just come through but when I looked down the track, there was a DPU at the end of the train. Also, my brother has concrete pillar, in his yard and it was part of a railroad that use to run through there years ago. I wish I could send you a picture of it. I’ve learned a lot about trains since I started watching your videos.

Cool! Is that the Ohio Central Railroad? I have been wanting to film in that area and also in Zanesville. There is a lot of good train stuff in that area.

I’m not sure. I live in Marysville Ohio and I usually see CSX go through. But my brother lives in Kenton Ohio, which is considered northwest Ohio.
