This is so lovely; it was a more leisurely era when trolley travel was a graceful, efficient way to travel. I wish that I was around at that time! Thank you for this wonderful trip down memory lane!

Allen those are classic videos of thing that were and are no more. I vaguely remember riding a rail trolley in the early 1950's in Columbus Ohio. They were replaced by trolley buses shortly after that. These were replaced by stinking, foul smelling diesel buses in the early 1960' or maybe late 1950's. BTW, I love your musical choices.

Gene Schmitt appears to be driving a 1952 Dodge Coronet. Great photography for its time on an amateur basis.

And now they've returned to Sydney, Australia. Melbourne, Australia chose to retain theirs; they add character to a city.

So cool. I grew up in Dallas in the 50's and 60's and I remember these running down Bryan Ave to downtown Dallas. I didn't realize they were streetcars, I thought they were electric buses. I guess both descriptions fit. I remember that often after a driver took a turn at a major intersection with multiple wires, sometimes the contacts would fail to follow the wire and the driver had to run to the back and tug on the wires to reseat the contacts. I can't imagine doing that during a Texas rainstorm but I'm sure they did. Yikes! Thanks so much for sharing.

How did the street cars switch from track to track . The junctions seemed not to have movable track components ? Thank you for this wonderful video .

There was a small gap in both the straight and tuning rail. Cars coming from one way would always turn cars moving the other direction always went straight.

Depending on the system, there were switches, automatic and manual. In some videos, you can see the switchman use a long lever to change the switch.

Would love to know where the specific street locations were, especially on the private right-of-ways, and if any trace of them is left.

The first couple minutes shows the Grand Ave line in North St. Louis. It passes Sportsmans Park home to both the St. Louis Cardinals and the old Browns...long gone. The right away was for the Hodimont line which cut through several neighborhoods. Still there but unused. Many of the PCC cars used world wide were made by the St. Louis Car Company, also long gone. Sportsmans Park was torn down right after the 1965 season. In 1966 streetcar service was discontinued in the city.

Dallas, San Francisco, Pacific Electric, and Illinois Terminal all bought double-ended PCCs (I won't count the Red Arrow cars because they did not use PCC trucks).
