What a huge surprise for this streetmusician and us! We were filming him singing the song smalltown boy by Bronski Beat, when suddenly Jimmy Somerville (the original singer) comes up and joins him singing! Awesome, things like that only happen in Berlin!
Make sure to check the original song:

I was a shift manager for a small homeless charity in London and it was lovely having Jimmy volunteer with us. Extremely humble, kind and caring person who you'd never guess is a well-known musician and he sincerely acted with less pomposity than our regular volunteers. He really is the definition of down-to-earth.

In the mid 1990's i had tickets to see Altan in Barrhead, Scotland - just 2 or 3 miles from where i lived. But i had to cancel because i was going to Germany. When i arrived in Hamburg i saw a poster advertising that Altan were playing that week! Blew my mind. Got tickets and went with my friend. We tried to skip the fare on the train. "i do it all the time" he said. We got busted and i'm not kidding, we got taken to the police! I'd just scored some Moroccan black, and had a matchbox full of it in my pocket (my German pal said it was ok to have that amount - don't know if that was true). The policeman wanted me to pay a fine, but i lied and said i had no money. he said "so if i searched you right now you'd have no money?" I said "yes". He just asked me to fill in a form saying i'd pay the fine when i got back to Scotland, and we were late for the gig. There was nowhere to sit and we ended up sprawled on a huge very low table about the size of a snooker table on the side of the stage, right next to the band. I had a little pipe and we got totally wasted. Other ppl came up out their seats and joined us on the table and we passed the pipe around. It was a great gig, and a night i'll never forget.

Not many 'professional' performers can just walk up like that and sing without autotune. Respect to them both

He is one of goodness knows how few artists who sang live on top of the pops post-bananarama. EVERYONE mimed, and then he comes on for his first performance of this song and sings live, perfectly. So much respect for him

I had never heard this song or artist until seeing this clip, I must admit I have watched it several times lol. His voice is stunningly good. I actually like this one better than the original which is a higher pitch. I would LOVE to have him do an unplugged acoustic just like he sang it here, this tiny clip isn't enough... I want to hear more now!

We should call this phenomenon Jimmy Sommervilling, whenever a streetmusician is encountered with the original artist.

Just that moment will make this young guy's life, he was so in the moment that he didn't realise until the end. We forgive him he's young and picked one of our great 80s song's to sing out busking of which he probably didn't ever think that could happen. A one in a million chance meeting. Seen it so many times before but you cannot mistake Jimmy's Voice one of a kind.
