I seriously thought that it was impossible to not take damage to Red Bear, who I believe to be the hardest boss in the entire game (his clone in the elevator acknowledged). Hat's off to you for figuring out how to do that, show him for all the multiple lives and continues he cost us.

@@lylatibourtine7848 Zamza's usually easy, can get harder in a crowd but has predictable attacks and behaviors andyou're fine as long as you just move around him well. Abadede can be killed safely with jump attacks and using moves with i frames but that bores me and it's easy to fuck up with him. I'd definitely put him up there with R Bear and Shiva even though I find him a bit easier.

@@lylatibourtine7848 You can just punch lock Abadede. If you get the timing right he won't break out of it. As for Zamza, just stand in a corner and wait for him to come to you. He can't really do anything when he's not airborne.

It was an exceptional step forward (especially in the spritework) from the first episode at the time, and it still holds up greatly, especially the music. I had forgotten that Shiva already appeared here as Mr. X's right-hand man to confront before him; he reappers in the sequel as the first boss.

I didnt care for it. The old man and kangaroo characters I thought were stupid, and Ash........meh. Playing as Shiva was pretty slick, but I enjoyed SOR 2 alot more. SOR remake 5.1 was really neat. Had an alternate path for SOR 2 and had all characters playable. I'd check that out.

I played remake for hours & its awesome, but Shiva there made totally wrong. First, he not have block skill, which is his main thing, but instead he got some useless new attacks. Second he never was strong attacker to begin with. He always had simple weak combos, but make up for it with speed & grabs. Luckily BK3 have a mod to make him into proper state, equal to npc unit.

I had both Sega Genesis and Snes and back in the day I have to honestly say that Streets Of Rage series on the Genesis was better than the Final Fight series on Snes. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed both Streets Of Rage and Final Fight. My overall winner is Streets Of Rage.

I've been playing this game competitively for almost 2 decades now (Max being my main) & I'm just going to say there is no way you can walk up to Abadede, casually mind you, & just suplex him with no struggle or difficulty (atleast on Hardest or Mania). There *is* a strat that works, which involves knocking him down & jumping into him with your down attack at the right frame, stunning him, giving you leeway to grapple him quickly. But as for just casually walking up to him without him either breaking out or him grabbing you first, I don't see that being real. Just my opinion.

Great skill, but there is definatly something wrong with the grabs. I confirmed this when he grabbed mr x at 14:30 for about half a second, and unless you throw him immediately, he hits you.

if you manage to keep the katana and hit him with the correct timing you don't even need to move, and you don't take a smidgen of damage. Let him approach and swing the sword at the right moment. Rinse and repeat.

It seems like hit detection is off on this no offence, you can’t grab R Bear or Abadade because they will grab you and hit you repeatedly. Also when you use the special attack and connected with an enemy you took no damage? As far as I’m away you loose a small percentage

Stan Hey, I’m not sure if this is a special attack or just a forward attack @1:36 against the Elektra, and in regard to hit detection, you see R Bear make a punch at 9:25 but no damage happens

For 1:36 that is a special attack but if it doesnt connect it wont do any damage to the player. There are 2 special attacks. One is just the special button. If it doesnt connect it wont do any damage to you. The second is forward + special and that one will hurt you regardless if it hits or not. As for the R. Bear fight, that is a bit sticky could be because he was already in his combo sequence.

At 9:25 his punch is clearly right in his face. Bear can't be stopped by those punches and he doesn't reset his frame animation when he hits. Unless Blaze may have been moved up a frame where Bear couldn't hit but this boss is like a tracker, for real. And both Dede and Bear can be thrown, but you have to approach Bear the right way, maybe at an angle (which is haaaaard). With Dede you have to throw him RIGHT away, otherwise his break counter starts after a second.

Love the Streets of Rage series. 1 felt like a more interesting Golden Axe, with the special being more of a panic button than a scaling resource to micromanage, and throw-to-instant-kill was better executed (the 2nd last level elevator treated it as a welcome option for tearing through enemies). I think the bosses were a weak point in that they just went down more to persistence and exploiting their AI than player learning technique that'd make them better at the game though. 2 felt like it was a giant leap closer to an arcade game without some of the worst conventions of arcade games (eg no health bar, BS cheap death to increase insert coin). And the music. Decades later and it's still as unforgettable. And the simple act of adding health bars and great sound effects made everything feel so, so much more powerful. 3 felt like both a step forward and a step back. The plot and characterisation was total nonsense, but the branching paths were interesting. And playable Shiva, and a hidden playable Roo? Excellent stuff. If the difficulty wasn't all over the shop it would have been a great if not flawless sequel. It's a damn shame the series just halted. I still think the brand has recognition, perhaps not comparable to Sonic, but it doesn't have absolute duds in the series diluting confidence either.

I love videos like this on Streets of Rage. It has the best case of i-frame demonstrations I can think of. Once you understand how they all move and function, you can see how truly brilliant this series is. The fact that they carried into SOR4 largely intact, is also wild.

I fast forwarded a bit but those punches from R. Bear should have clearly hit. I've been punched enough times for years to know that those uppercut and straight punches are no joke and they don't miss. The only way to have Bear miss and get an opening on him is when he jumps at you from an angle and you dodge his feet. Any other time from those punches, you're getting hit regardless of what you do, unless you are doing a super. It is close to impossible to not get hit by bosses higher than Abadede in my view because those suckers get SUPER crafty near the second half of the game. The robots (Particle, Molecule) are easy to dodge at times, though.

I'm PRETTY sure it's "Hardest"; I know that Mania gives the healthier bosses four full extra life stars, and they seem to have three full life stars and a half-full fourth star here. Been a while since I played, myself! Good taste, though. Streets of Rage Remake was a hell of a ride. ;3

Its definitely hardest becasue on normal you only fight two robots on the elevator. Hardest you fight 3. Isotope is not on normal mode.

Something very off with this. I suspect haxxorz have disabled player hit box or something similar. I've played through this game enough to know what connects and what gives you immunity. The following look very suspect to me: Blaze vs Barbon - 2:34 & 2:59 Skate vs Jet - 3:19 & 3:49 Blaze vs R.Bear - 9:11 Axle vs Souther & Stealth - 10:32 (You dont kill both bosses by killing just one of them. You have to beat them both) Skate vs P.I.M. - 12:21 Max vs Shiva - 13:43 & 13:54 Max vs Mr X - 14:33

I know this comment is a year old, but you're actually mistaken on point 4 about how you need to kill them both. Souther is the Main Boss, and if you kill him first, then Stealth will in fact die and you automatically win and advance to the next level. However, it doesn't work that way if you kill Stealth first, because as I said, Souther is the Main Boss.

@Shadowserg, you know, you literally can not only stun lock enemies into being essentially your punching bags, but also any other stupid enemies that walk your way as well, right? Seriously, why did you not consider taking that approach with Jack and Electra? You could, with the right method, also be pulling no damage fights with them that way as well.

I've beaten this game dozens of times only since 2016 (no nostalgia here) and even though I'm good at the game and like to think I have all the mechanics mastered, you're on another level. Excellent display of skill and technical mastery and why this is one of the best video games made.

12 bosses is a big boss roster for that time. The average of bosses for a hack and slash game in the 90's was from 5 to 6 bosses. Some games could have more, from 7 to 8 but the standard was 5.

A-normal special ( can't hurt you if you misses) >+A= another special (more damaging to enemies and damages you even if you missed)

Defensive specials (Neutral+A) in SOR2 only deal self damage on hit. Only offensive specials (Forward+A) deal self damage regardless if they hit or not as long as you get to finish the entire move.

My favorite game ever! Beat it thousands of times... Once even in under 15 minutes..... But I've never no-hit all of the bosses.

Sageoftruth same with the R Bear boss. You can't go near them. They always grab you first. Zamza as well. I am puzzled why they never grabbed in this video.😟

If you notice, he's grabbing them off of their special moves or after they wiff an attack. Its just expert timing. Remember the few times you ACTUALLY grabbed them and you were like "OH SHIT I GOT EM" He just perfected it. I usually approach from a diagonal and punch, punch grab. It works with just about anyone except R. Bear. Much respect on that run.

You can approach them from above or below and you'll grab them first almost every time.

@@picallo1 Meh. 6:16 & 6:20 would beg to differ. Not to say there isn't a consistent strat to be able to grab Abadede & suplex him, because there is, but here he's just casually walking into him & getting the grapple. Abadede isn't coming off an attack or staggered in any way & yet Player 1 is able to consistently get the grapple. That is not possible on Hardest or Mania. This is coming from someone who runs this game on Hardest 1 life & is able to max score every play through. So I'm not buying that.

@@FurbyParade226 Whatever you say dude but Ive been playing since Genesis when there was no 'mania' so Ill take my word on it, not yours. Firstly at 6:16 he uses a jumping attack which creates a programmed response from the computer to 'approach' because of a whiff therefore the grapple wasnt anticipated. At 6:20 the computer cannot guard against a rear attack and it has advantage over any other grapple meaning the computer had no defense. Once again this player has mastered the game probably down to the frame which isnt uncommon for speed runs and things of this nature. From neutral walking up to the Wrestler will always trigger a grapple from him with advantage. His biggest weakness is his get up, because he can be instantly stunned with down attack in SOR2 and knocked down via a standard no direction jump attack. In the elevator you can drop him over and over with this and not get hit at all.

lesson here is that trying to go for big damage all the time is not the key to a flawless victory. but 14:33 is a bit sus though. he somehow managed to dodge the bullets????
