Thank you so much for doing that. Unfortunately, I had only read the instructions before watching this video so used peat and vermiculite, but this looks suspiciously like Perlite???

Hi, A number of my Streptocarpus just keep on dying! I've treated for Vine Weavil, and they aren't overwatered. They just go grey and very flaccid. I think it's some kind of bacterial wilt, though that's just my theory - nothing on the internet!

Whats the evergreen mix you use for the streptocarpus please
@OVERTONPOOLE2 жыл бұрын
So sorry but Frank is no longer with us and I am not sure how to find out the answer for you. Also, mix could well have changed since the video was made in terms of the amount of peat that was included.

@@OVERTONPOOLE ok thank you for your response I have found one that is okay to use plus I still have lots of peat if I need it I will supply you with one I have found for Streptocarpus Thank you very muchos

is it possible to devide large strepocarpus plants
@sandrastreifel64527 жыл бұрын
cecil waller Yes, you can repot side offsets from Streptocarpus plants, but when they've started to become old, trying to divide and rejuvenate them as you would with African Violets or other house plants is pretty much futile. Starting fresh from leaf cuttings before your Streptocarpus plants get more than 3 years old at most is the way to go, for sure. Keep sharing new plants with your friends!

FRANK'S REPLY Yes it is possible to divide plants but you must down size the pot you put them in, some older varieties split easy, the newer varieties seem not to but you can cut them with a kitchen knife say into 4 trim off some of the root and pot tight. Frank.

Thank you very much for your advice could you tell me when is the best time to split them? .I followed your leaf propagating last year and had good results.you have a very good web site Regards Cecil

cecil waller ANOTHER ANSWER FROM FRANK I would suggest you split them in July, any that you want to split later wait until the spring, March would be the best month as they will have a full season for growing on. I still think you get a better plant from a cutting, try this, split a plant in July at the same time take some tip cuttings from it & see which is the best plant next July, i know it's 12 months but i think it is worth doing, try it. Frank.

That looks like Perlite not Vermiculite

I wonder why you seem short of breath. I was surprised the soil was all left fluffy and not all tamped down. You didn't seem to show the plants any care or tenderness. But you clearly do think the World of them.
@philhinto11934 жыл бұрын
Warning ...the roots need lots of air around them, do not tamper the soil down or else! ..I have the feeling this man has treated himself to quite a few cigarettes during his life, hence breathing problems.
@draconianTL Жыл бұрын
This is a confusing comment. Why would you need to firm down the soil? The cuttings are light and only need gently securing. If they were pushed down hard you’d be limiting airflow to the rooting part. And ‘care’, ‘tenderness’? What a bizarre thought process.
