California's giant sequoia trees are showing signs of extreme stress due to the state's ongoing drought. To save Earth's oldest trees, Anthony Ambrose and his team of researchers climb several hundred feet into the canopy, braving life and limb in the name of conservation.

I thought the emerald triangle was associated with weed... also coast redwoods grow in Sonoma, Marin and Santa Cruz counties. The tree in the video are giant sequoias not coast redwood

Watching pictures and videos of these trees will give you some idea of their size and how unique they are. But is not like being there and seeing it yourself. I knew that and had a goal to see them in person. I was not able to climb one, but I did walk on top of the length of one that had fallen. Started at the thin end about 2 ft. wide to the trunk that was about 8 ft. wide. Took longer that I thought it would. Good thing measures/laws were put in place in the early 1900's to stop logging companies from cutting them all down. If that didn't happen, I might never have been able to see a giant one in person.

I'm definitely NOT a climate denier, but some of these things are 1000s of years old. I don't think a moderate drought is going to knock them out.

K.C. McLaughlin Its q national park not a national forest so it has even more stringent regulations but I imagine you can fly a drone with special permission especially if it's promoting conservation.

Ned Gold That's true, but it's still so rare for that permission to be granted that it's a big deal when it happens. So far the only exemption granted was for White Sands National Monument.

It is illegal to fly down the Grand Canyon, which is a national park. You can get special permission to do so, if you can show a positive outcome. There are several videos showing extraordinary results.

Well uh... how about watering them then? Fill up some semi tanker trucks with water and drive out to the sequoia groves. Run fire hose type hoses out to the trees and soak the ground. Rinse and repeat as the drought runs on as needed.

Sequoias are maybe the most badass tree I ever saw, It cans survive during floods, droughts and many more situations. I think Chuck Norris created them only to say hey mate looks what I made a brand new tree which can live several centuries and resist to issues like droughts, floods, earthquake, etc..

Yup. Many of the trees are 2000 years old. They were there and alive back when that Jesus guy was still walking the Earth

Giant sequoias are not true sequoias. They belong to a separate genus, Sequoiadendron.

So old. I hope whats left are preserved forever. Its soooo shameful that many ancient giant trees were harvested in the 19th and early 20th centuries just to prove man can do it. These take forever to grow, to live. They are alive. A living breathing creature basically. Save them all. Im surprised they can get water to their tops.

Not trolling but how can the video state in the opening, " stressed like never before " Granted they, the trees are a thousand years old. Record keeping of tree status is no where near 1000 yrs. In record keeping. Not trolling, just seems to be a bit of an over reach.

California's tree? They used to occupy the west coast all the way to Alaska. California cuts down every tree it sees but the Sequoias and the only reason they're still standing is because of tourist money. California has a lot of work to do before they earn the title of tree hero.

They survived 4000 years and there was no drought during that time? and the species is millions of years old. This seems like another over-dramafication videon. Whit that said I just got my redwood seeds and they are germificating in the fridge as I write this.
