Notice how even "small cars" in their modern iterations are so much bigger than those of 30 years ago... Look how easily the Mk1 Clio and the Peugeot 106 scoots through those streets with room to spare.

Great video and it’s amazing to be that close to the action, but holy hell, if someone’s brakes fail they’ve got safety equipment, cages and a bunch of metal protecting them while spectators will just get scraped off the wall and the car after the dust settles. I guess that’s part of the thrill of going to see these competitions.

Are the exhaust pops just for fun or is it a side effect of engine tuning?
@op3l5 ай бұрын
It's called an anti lag system used to keep turbo spooled up even at low RPM. Basically dumps gas into the cylinder even with throttle off so there's exhaust pressure.
@geertterharmsel5 ай бұрын
@@op3l there are also non turbo cars with pops. It is the ignition system thats cut out to seamlessly shift the sequential gearbox.
@markwright31615 ай бұрын
It's always functional on a race prepped vehicle as the other replies have covered. Road cars usually just have a 'pop map' or possibly even something electronic (like a speaker in/near the exhaust or in the cabin) to try to copy it. I think they'd be better not trying personally. I find it's like some great music that everyone's ruining with out of tune karaoke covers of it, with the electric 3-pop Audi, etc do being some chat bot blended with the AI voice of several years ago trying to sing to a company phone waiting music recording of a knock-off instrumental of the original backing track.
