Strict Routine Can Lead To Rigidity

Sometimes we get into a routine of going to the same places and doing the same things. This can result in anxiety and other challenges for our daughter. Routines can be great, but rigidity can set in quickly.
Note: Everyone is different. What works for us may not work for you. But maybe and helpfully, this info will help a family out there in the world.

I find the same thing with myself actually. The longer I stick to a routine or "the usual", the harder it is to break out of it & the more anxiety it creates

We avoid the heat as much as possible. We get humidity here too and it’s not fun for us. That’s why we live where it’s so cold in winter 😆

Welcome home, Pam, it is great to see you again. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Colorado. I can see where routines can be a problem when you do something different. I love how observant you are about these things and know what to watch for with Braylee. I believe there are many parents of children with autism who benefit from watching your videos.

Eloping? I haven't seen that in a number of years on this channel. I think that Braylee is finally past the stage where she has the drive and desire for behaviors like that.

from watching this and fathering autism I notice children with autism seem really shy when theyre first reintroduced to a family member that has been away. I wonder if that is a common thing with autism? like a readjustment period when people return.

i wouldn't say "shy" is the right word, it's more like we're just quietly processing, since it can be pretty significant to see someone again after some time.
