So glad that I got to do a Cheesesteak Tour when I visited Philadelphia this time because when you are in Philly, you got to eat some good Philly Cheesesteak!!
Cheesesteak sandwiches have always been one of my favorite kind of sandwiches, that's why I had to make it my mission to see what the best Cheesesteak Sandwich that Philly has to offer!
Not only did I get to taste the cheesiest Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich that was oozing out with cheese, but I also got to try one of the biggest Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches too! This Cheesesteak sandwich is filled with an insanely amount of toppings, full of juicy seasoned meat, fried onions, peppers and most of all, and it has so much cheese!
Mmm, thank you, Philadelphia for your fantastic Cheesesteak Sandwiches, I will be back for more of that cheesy sandwich!

When I went to Philly we were told by the locals to stay away from Pat's and Geno's. They said that's where all the tourists go and it's always crowded and the sandwiches are overrated. We were told to go to Jim's on South Street so that's where we went and we loved it. Highly recommend Jim's

There are some amazing places here in middle America that have food that's just as delicious and the food places along the east or west coasts. Hope to see that, but if you don't tour middle America, I'll still enjoy your show. This show never fails to make me hungry :)

@baletwoonefive502

The reason Pats and Genos get longer lines than Jim’s is simple they are tourist destinations(traps) and they are for the drunk club goers that don’t have anywhere else to go for a cheesesteak. Mikey knew where to go for a good cheesesteak. Non of which were Pats or Genos. Mom and Pop stores have better cheesesteaks, shoot the Chinese American takeout places here make better cheesesteaks lol Just because celebrities visit a place doesn’t make it good. But try them out if you’d like to know what wet cardboard and cheese on bread taste like

I grew up and lived 34 years about 30 minutes down 95 from Center City and have had a million cheesesteaks... everyone knows that you go to Pat's and Geno's for the experience (if you want to see and be seen or hang outside drunk after bar scene etc) but Jim's has been famous forever .... pretty sure Stuff Magazine called them the best like 20 years ago. Plus South Street itself is an experience... but there are hundreds and hundreds small places and pizzerias and little restaurant shops in the Tri State Area that make amazing cheesesteaks ... back in the 90s you could find an awesome cheesesteak prob 5 mins from your house for 5dollars in a 50 miler circular area.
@LegionPrime
@LegionPrime 3 жыл бұрын
Ugh South Street. 20 years ago most of the the small indy shops had been pushed off South by rising rents, 25 years ago and it was still a fun place to hang out. Jim's has never been better than mediocre. They chop the steak up like that because it's cheap meat. My friends mother used to work at the meat distributor they bought from and she said they never bought anything but the cheapest meat they could buy.

I have to speak up here! In the early 1990's, I was a short order cook here in San Francisco at a place that is still open called, The Cheese Steak Shop. It's a San Francisco Bay Area chain owned and operated by a Philadelphia native named Keith. He taught us the original way to cook and prepare a cheese steak: oil on the grill, a portion of sliced white onion, a portion of sliced sirloin steak, chop up the steak and onion until minced, shape lengthwise to either a 6" or 15" hoagie roll, cover with slices of Provolone cheese, cover with hoagie roll for one minute to let cheese melt, scoop up and over, sprinkle on top with sweet and hot cherry peppers and serve. The owner flies the Amoroso hoagie rolls in from Philly too!

I live in philly, its great to hear that someone in philly has taken the cheesesteak to another city so that city can enjoy a proper cheesesteak too. I seen so many other cities try to make a cheese steak, and every one that i been to, cant make a cheesesteak to save thier lives. So its great to hear someone from philly making a real cheesesteak in san Fran.

Mike, I think you might have to do a part 2 to this. Steve's, Tony Luke's, and Dalessandro's have FANTASTIC cheesesteaks, and if you want classics, do Pat's and Geno's (but I think both are overrated tourist traps). If you're feeling extra adventurous, figure out which one you like the most, get a slice of Lorenzo's pizza, and wrap the cheesesteak in it to make a Philly taco. Yes, it's a real thing, and yes, it's amazing.

Yay, Mikey! Great seeing you here in Philly and enjoying those scrumptious sandwiches. Other places I'd recommend - Ishkabibble's and Mi-Pal. The former for steaks; the latter for their eggplant parm sandwich. Thanks for visiting.

As a native, you can honestly go to virtually any corner store or pizza place and get a phenomenal cheese steak 😆 I know if you’re visiting and not familiar with the neighborhoods, you might not be in an area where a good bodega is or may not “feel safe” but trust me on that advice.
