Thank you for the tip about the X26 paint. I’ve already placed my order. The paint should arrive Monday. It’s funny as I was thinking this morning if I could paint the LED. Cheers!

You make it look so simple. PS - Penticton Challenge? I've done IM Canada when it was in Penticton 3 times: 93, 96, and 98.

Yup "Challenge Penticton". The first year that Ironman and Penticton parted ways. And, "Challenge" is the group that puts on Challenge Roth. I've volunteered at both (supporting my son who is a para). The max I've done is a half-iron (Penticton and Calgary). Oh and as far as the train work, just take it slow and easy. :)

its very difficult to see where to insulate and why ? i had a few kato system i need to convert to dcc but cant find any videos about these. you are actually one of the only people explain what you are doing. this is a great video but i dont know why you need to insulate. on the web there are some board decoders doesnt need insulating .

Tan the motor must be separated from track power because the motor will later get its power from the decoder. The decoder receives the track power from the contacts when all is complete.

Tan, sorry I didn't see your post earlier to answer it. As Lemosteam says, the insulation is done between the horizontal copper strips which carry track power and the vertical motor copper strips. Once converted, the decoder will provide all power to the motor so you want to make sure that the motor strip does not accidentally contact the power strip that is connected to track power. With these Kato setups, the only potential place that contact will occur is on the edge of the power strip and thus the Kapton tape is wrapped around that edge.
