Using roughly the same set ups we're returning to the Rio Vista Dock! It's a MASSIVE body of Delta Water so we know the BIG ones are in there! It is indeed the MAIN channel that goes into the San Francisco Bay then out to the Pacific Ocean! We're just glad to be hunting Stripers again in the Delta!
So... Grab a Snack, a Drink and join us on the Fishing Adventure!

I used to go fishing at lake pyramid on the grapevine off of highway 5 in California in the 80s. A lot of striped bass fishermen used to fish below the dam. I caught a 30 in striped bass one day. I didn’t bother weighing him but he made a good dinner for my brothers family and me. It’s a good mild firm fleshed fish. I filleted it and pan fried it. There were a lot of fillets.

Could have swore we passed by Lake Pyramind on our trip to Disneyland 2 years back. It is semi close to LA? I'd be very pleased with that Striper catch to be sure. Oddly not much a fish eater (due the blandness, also a hunter and enjoy those meals much more), but I'd have to agree Striper is very much like you said. We didn't encounter many or any small bones either. Ironically we only fishing Stripers for a few years. Caught maybe 160 and only 3 keepers. This video was one of those, so was nice to FINALLY try a Striper meal. Side note we do hope you're enjoying the fishing videos! Ken & Lea

@@hershisadventuresincalifor9725 I really like your videos. Wow, you must have Been a great fisherman to catch 160 strippers. Lake pyramid is very close to castaic lake, almost right next to each other. It is about halfway to Magic mountain after one drives up the grapevine. I started fishing after my divorce to gain patience and calmness. I prefer fishing in the ocean off fishing boats. Fish like the yellowtail, dorado, albacore, and calico bass fight pretty good. Bonita are a lot of fun to catch too but I don’t like eating them.

@@theroadrunnerjarhead4109 We're glad you're enjoying them. Editing takes 7-15 hours each but hope it helps. I guess on the 160 being a lot. Mainly due to some good days, one day we caught 37 I think. We got that video up in the Striper Playlist. When casting into a school of them, bites can be rapid! Ahhh yes I know Magic Mountain, so that helps. Some distance from Sacramento area. As for the Ocean fishing, yeah that's out of my experience. Sounds amazing would love to pull up some "exotics". We did plan to toss some "Bay" fishing in. Question did the fishing help with the calming? Just wondering as those days come with few to no bites, loose like 6+ rig set ups and currents taking bait down stream to far heh.... oh not get into the baits that never stay on the hook ACK!

Haha yeah they are! Funny you mention that been working on talking Lea into upsizing the hooks/baits. Once we added a mere 50%-100% Anchovies, and used a larger hook. We hooked the 18"-19". We do at times toss out Lures also, though need a few larger ones. Seem to have lost my A-Rigs. As for the Pikes or Live Bait, heh when I can get myself to put them through that. But at times I rarely use Live Bait. Thanks for the note though... have a good friend that is fond of using Golden Shiners. Also tried only once or twice of not only doubling the Anchovies on the soaking poles but to wrap a Pile Worm around it. We've used Live Mudsuckers one as well as Ghost Shrimp. Sadly didn't get bites those 2 days.

@hershisadventuresincalifor9725 shad or ( Bait Needle ) you can get at the Bait shop in Rio Vista, it's a piece of stainless wire with a notch in it for your leader, you hook the loop of your leader on it then shove it from the mouth of your Bait and pull it out of the tail, ( it works with, Pike minnows, mud sucker's anchovies and sardines ) then you put your leader on your slip sinker and toss it out there, I don't use spinning equipment for Stripers I use open face casting reels, like an ABU 6500,

@hershisadventuresincalifor9725 I try not to catch schoolies unless it's on lures because they swallow small baits and they can end up dieing or at the very least just a pain to lose gear and waste time, try over buy the horseshoe on Sherman island rd, by the fish shoot, try to cast in about 20 to 25 foot of water. Get a chart of the delta from the bait store, it gives you depths, and try that fishing pier behind you, sometimes it's productive, especially during the salmon transplants

DOH.... which spot boss? Near the Chain Wood Fence that's next to the pier? Or a spot from the boat dock? In the case of the spot with the Chain/Wood Fence...omg yeah something's there boss! We get hung up something fierce. Perhaps the gents to our right were avoiding it. Lure's seemed ok, but that took out half our poles so we moved spots. The dock, has littles bits of snags if you're on the side we were and cast kind of parallel with the dock towards the bridge. Sounds like you know the area well. We're still TRYING to learn the clear spots for casting. Btw if you know (would be sweet!) bit from the shoreline is it all Sandy Bottom (outside of some snags) in that area? We recently fishing a New spot to us also in the Sac River and was a Sandy Bottom (that's day is tonight's new episode, you'll probably know the area). Thanks for watching, hope you're enjoying and it's an honor! Ken & Lea

Should have kept the reel from the sounds of it. It still catches! Though selling it for $5-$15. Then flipping that money and so on. After all money begets money. You'd just may be surprised. Or you got your dirt weed. Just some years ago flipped $400 into $345,000. Yes took a few years to do. Simply reinvested 95% of all net profits. That was the 2nd profit seeking venture I went on. First one did better. Retail sales. Then again recon this is a Fishing Channel.... so outside of your rude comment, what do you normally fish for?

We used more than one rig set up, so really depends on which you're referring to, but yes we did use Carolina Rigs. Line to a sinker, to a swivel, then the leader line & hook. At times we do add a second swivel to stop the sinker from sliding far. If I may also, they actually work fairly well. For multi species as well. Greg wasn't it you that suggested putting the Anchovies head down on the hook? Either way haha right now, hope it was an enjoyable episode! It didn't do my knee any favors, and what no one seen was that last Striper, it actually was dragging the pole across the dock and into the water. So I dove to catch it. When my hand grabbed it, it was already 100% off the dock and into the water sinking.

Honestly you might be right! Didn't give it too much thought at the time. Though if I may add, the currents were so strong that everyone's lines were drifting back and forth in the currents.
