In this episode, I mostly take what's left of the old finish off the exterior teak, and throw a little varnish on the bowsprit.

I was sailing my wooden gaff cutter from Maine to North Carolina and back about ten years ago and stayed at a marina near Bath,NC….Nina was there…. I was particularly taken by her beautiful simplicity…..you’re saving a great boat….. thanks for taking me along…..how May I contribute to your effort…..cheers….Stott

Nice to hear that. She was probably about to sail to NJ with her previous owner... my aim is to make her even more simple. If you would like to help, you can contact me via email (link in description). You can contribute money via Paypal, Patreon, or KoFi...but the time and advice of those who know these boats is of tremendous value to me. For now, though, tell me about your boat!

@@SlowlySailing-lc1cs hello….this is Stott…. I really liked your reply…. I am a commercial lobsterman so don’t have much vacation time in the summer….my lab (Boots) and I left Maine around November on my 30’ wooden gaffer and headed south….the mid Atlantic really got hammered that year….I think I counted five major storms….anyway we met Nina and I really hoped to meet her owner but I believe someone said he was an airline pilot and I never did meet him…..every time Boots needed to go ashore we would head for Nina hoping to meet her owner…..she’s really a special boat…..genuine soul….I’ll try to dig up any pictures I might have taken then…..the folks at the marina were awesome….guess they took pity on a guy,his dog,and a wooden gaffer…I’m not much with these computers but I’ll try to get you pictures and some cash…..you have a great attitude and a great boat….please try to be kind to Nina’s former owners…..we have no idea what they were going through while she was in there care…..again I think you’re doing a great job…..don’t get discouraged…it’s a long tedious process but it’s all worth it…..cheers….Stott

@@stottcarleton1624Any time you have to offer a suggestion or maybe answer a question would mean a lot, but don't feel obliged (although pics would be great!).

Also, Stott- my plan in the next couple years is to start cruising between Va and Maine...maybe we will cross paths someday.

@@SlowlySailing-lc1cs I really hope so…..I’m having trouble figuring out how to send you pictures of my gaffer “Two Dogs “…..I’ll keep trying…..you’re very busy …..keep up the great work…..I’ve been at it over 14 years with Two Dogs and loved every minute…..occasionally she lets me sail her….I think the smartest thing I did was to build an enclosure….. This year’s project will be to pull the engine to to see what surprises lurk in that dark hole …..enough about me…..you’re doing great ! ……pace yourself….don’t burn out…..when you reach a point where you can sail her go sailing….and don’t take any of our comments seriously unless they help you……cheers…Stott

G'day I dont know if you have heard of a joggle or tick stick. They are invaluable for making accurate templates of curves and bulkheads. Cheers

Yes, for some reason I got this other idea in my head because the square was handy, lol. I have some plywood structures planned for the forepeak, and will most likely use a ticking stick to plot those parts.
You've never seen a wood finish like this! (Cures in 2-Minutes!)
