Hi everyone! Welcome back to my Scrapping for Copper Series. Today we kick off episode 3 with stripping transformers and stators for copper. How much copper did we get?
I start off by showing you step-by-step how to scrap transformers for that beautiful copper. Once the transformers are all stripped down, I then work on scrapping the stators. My methods are the easiest methods that I know of. I've been scrapping metal for over 15 years and it never gets boring, at least for me it doesn't.
Once the copper has been removed, I weigh it up and then melt it down in my furnace. I then pour the liquid copper into my graphite molds and cast 2 ingots from it. After a quick quench and cleanup, I have some nice shiny copper ready to add to the stack.
If you like the video, please give me a thumbs up. Your subscription is always welcome. I appreciate each and every one of my viewers, regardless if you are subscribed or not. Hopefully you found the video interesting enough where you do want to sub. If so, please turn on the notifications so you wont miss out on any future content being published.
If you want to start the series with episode one, there is a link listed below. I also have links to series 1 and 2 (formerly known as the Blue Pallet Series)

“The slot machine told me to go f myself” made me laugh loud enough that my dogs came to check on me to make sure I am ok😂😂😂 thanks for showing and explaining the process and explaining what you’re doing. Loved the vid.

Lmao brother! I was up til 2am and the melting footage is always the last parts that I trim and add captions to. The slot machine was being a greedy bastid all day long. Totally took all my $1 bills off camera. Keep hoping to catch a good pay on it live but sadly it wasn’t meant to be for this video lol. I’m glad you appreciated my humor and mentioned it! Most people fast forward the vids and miss those “gems” 🤣. Thanks for watching brother! 😁👊🏼🍻

Thanks brother! Yes 4 oz is a lot but remember, I scooped out a lot of dross from that crucible. Some of it is good copper that gets stuck to my scoop. When it becomes an annoyance, I chip it off and throw it in the slag container. Speaking of which, I’ll need to do a slag melt in the near future 🤔. Thanks for watching bro! 😁👊🏼🍻

Holy crap 1000?!?!?! Almost better off spot welding 5 at a time together, clamping them to your bench and having a drop cloth on the floor and running a 12” reciprocating saw. It will be very messy but worth it. That will be a helluva payday brother! 😁👊🏼🍻

hey mate! 2 nice copper bars to the stack! ich have a question on the transformers: the red isolated windings between the copper and aluminium windings were they copper too? have a nice one , see you in the next video!
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much brother! In answer to your question, it depends. I’ve taken apart transformers where those wires were steel. I didn’t know it and assumed they were copper but soon realized when they didn’t melt they were steel. Most cases the red wires are tinned copper. The problem is stripping them. They have a hard lacquer on the outer layer, the red layer is actually a woven cloth and then there is rubber under that layer. Running them through my stripping machine sends bits of chunky lacquer everywhere. I don’t even bother stripping them down anymore. I just toss them into my bin of non-stripping wire. Thanks for the inquiry and watching my video brother! 🙂🍻👊🏼

Do you get a lot of slag/impurities st the top from the resin or paper they use in the windings? Ive been collecting a bunch and im about to start melting rhem down so it would be a good heads up😅
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Жыл бұрын
Yes and also at the bottom. I didn’t show it in the video but before I started removing the slag /impurities, I stir the metal real good to bring the impurities at the bottom to the top. The more tape and paper you can remove prior to melting, the less impurities you will have to remove. You can always use a teaspoon of borax to help bring all the impurities together which would be easier. Thanks for the inquiry and thanks for watching brother! 🙂👊🏼🍻
