Stromae a vraiment une belle écriture et il est plutot humaniste et comme le chanteur Orelsan; ils traitent tous les deux de sujets aussi interessants que twitter... sinon je peux vous recommander la musique "simple basique" d'Orelsan; et pour votre information ce n'est pas vraiment du rap mais plutot de la pop 👍💙🤍💘

Stromae is BELGIAN, not French. Stromae means "maestro" in verlan. "Verlan" is a street slang and consists of saying the words backwards. Stromae's father, his name is Paul Van Haver, was a military man and he was shot in the Rwandan genocide.

The melody, as well as the lyrics. The original song goes "l'amour est un oiseau de boème, il n'a jamais connu de loi, si tu ne m'aimes pas, je t'aime, et si je t'aime, prends garde à toi". Carmen is the story (originally a book) of a bohemian femme fatale. If I remember correctly, the main character falls in love with her, and she falls in love with him, but they have such different principles that they end up messing up each other's life - basically, she's the woman he shouldn't have fallen in love with, because even though she was tempting, she was clearly leading him to his doom (and going down herself as well).

Unfortunately, as often with translations, we lose subtleties and richness with the text. For example when he says '' coup d'hashtag "translate by cut like #. In fact in french" hache "(that we meet in the word hashtag) means an axe. So there are puns that you can't hear beacuse of the translation.

Also there is two meaning to «fais chanter » « Cet oiseau de malheur j’le mets en cage j’le fait chanter » = I’d put this evil bird into a cage and make it sing /or/ force it to confess Also, c’est « Comme ça qu’on s’aime, Comme ça consomme », which sounds almost the same, would be translated by : it’s « how we love each other, how it consumes », « Consommer », like « consume », means both buy (as the translation said) and also pump energy, destroy. Ça / it (= people in a dismissive tone) consomme/ buy; ça / it (=social media) consomme/ destroy Garde à moi, garde à toi, garde à nous : beware of me, of yourself of us… but Garde à vous means both beware of yourselves and « at attention ! » (the military position) Not a play on words but : In the opera Carmen sings « l’amour est un oiseau rebelle… » (love is a rebel bird) « l’amour est enfant de bohème » (love is child of bohème = a way of living careless in poverty enjoying what life gives) and stromae keeps his lyrics similar to these love is the twitter bird Love is a child of consumption (kind of the opposite of boheme life)

It's really difficult to translate this song because there are a lots of puns. For example : "garde à vous" means "take care of you" and a military posture (when they are all together and say hello with their hand on the head). "c'est comme ça qu'on s'aime (it's how we love) c'est comme ça qu'on somme / consomme (to but, capitalisme, and so on)

So I see many comments about Bizet, Stromae or Orelsan, let me tell you that Sylvain Chomet, the one who did the animation, is also quite famous. He was nominated for the Oscars for three of his animated movies (La vieille dame aux pigeons, Les triplettes de Belleville and L'illusionniste) and also won a bafta for the best short animated movies (La vieille dame aux pigeons). So yeah, another pretty talented guy!

Hello again Andrew, After a long time, YT proposed me again this reaction video, I don't know why (?), but I rewatched so, lol. You raise a very interesting question about the French expression: "crever comme des rats" (die like rats) which seems to be used in English as well. Yes, it's the same expression. But be careful, however, in the particular context of this song and the clip which illustrates the text of it very well, *"we're all going to die like rats"* in the song refers to the origin of this popular expression which takes up the idea of the very famous German tale *"The Pied Piper of Hamelin,"* in which a flute player is recruited by the mayor of a village to hunt the rats which have invaded the city for payment. The flutist hypnotizes the rats to the sound of his instrument, and they follow him to the river, where they drown. The mayor and the inhabitants of the village nevertheless decide not to pay and drive the flutist out of the village. This one comes back at night and plays his flute. He thus hypnotizes all the children of the village, who quietly leave their homes and blindly follow the sound of the flute to the river to suffer the same sad fate as the rats. It's therefore regarding this tale that this expression is used here, which corresponds perfectly to the idea of the text of this song by Stromaë, who, here, draws a parallel between the bird on Twitter and this flute player. Peace, folks. ☮🤗

They speak a bunch of different languages in Belgium, French is just one of them (the official / main language depends on what part of the country you are in, usually French in the south, German in the east, and Dutch in the north, if I remember correctly). If you ever go over there, try spending a few days in Brugge, it's great in the off-season (too many tourists in the summer). The beer is amazing.

7:30 its even worse, the lyrics translation in the captions are...Meh at best honestly When he says " c'est comme ça qu'on s'aiment et c'est comme ça que nous somme/consomment", it means thats how we love ourselfs, and thats how we are/consumate", since the Social Media "culture" is also a results of our Consumerist society Consomme=Consumate, but Consomme, also sounds like Que nous somme=How we are. So the whole thing about the Twitter bird eating and getting bigger and bigger, is also a reference to the saying "You are what you eat" On EST ce que l'on mange, wich is written in this song as "C'est comme ça que nous somme/c'est comme ça consomment" 9:12 Yes, its From the Opera Carmen, the song is "L'amour est un Oiseau rebelle" (Love is a Rebelious Bird). 13:13 in french we use "crêver comme des rats", but a good translation would be to Die a dogs death, but yeah its the same idea.

@@NaturalReactions Georges Bizet is the composer of the opera piece "Carmen", the inspiration for the music of Stromae's song. Because his name is close from the french word "baiser" (usually : to kiss, vulgar : to fuck) I made this terrible attempt at a pun ("envie de baiser" : "desire to fuck", "envie de Bizet" : "desire to hear music originating from this composer"). Sorry again. ; )

"L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" from from Act I from Bizet's opera Carmen is the sample song used by Stromae. "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" ( Love is a rebell bird) is also the lyrics used by stromae in the song. Bird represents Twitter and by extension Social Networks The chorus is badly translated in your video, the real lyrics into the song are: That 's the way we love each other (c'est comme ca qu'on s'aime) Thats 's the way we consume (c'est comme ca consomme) to consume (en) = Consommer (fr) costumer (en) = client (fr) to burn (en) = consume (fr) Stromae is compositor so he does all his own music. The way he sings is a mix of classic poetry (lot of old literature techniques about sense, analogy, cultural references, and homophonic sound with verses) and the way of Jacques Brel.

Yes, my apologies! Since then I always bring up Wikipedia for new (to me artists) I realize now he only speaks French. I was just going off of what I was told. I've been meaning to take a look at him again since I loved this song! Orelsan sounds good too! What do you recommend to check out first? I'll make it happen this week...

@@NaturalReactions so much good stuff I think "suicide social" may be a little intense but the lyrics... I mean it's one of the greatest. To me it's almost a god damn classic If you like more the beat, you could react to "discipline" or "Dis moi", it's more new but less intense "rêves bizarres" is between the two, great lyrics and interesting rhythm And he did a few with stromae like "La pluie" I mean so many great stuff, he also have a duo with an other great rapper but it's gonna be too much recommendations, I'll stuck to at least one of those, they have subtitles so you can follow Stay safe by those time 🖤 cheers mate!
