On 21 May 2013, amateur videos surfaced on KZfaq showing Stromae apparently drunk and wandering at the Louise/Louiza tram and metro station in Brussels during the daybreak, which eventually went viral. It was revealed days later that the incident was part of the taping for a music video; this was confirmed during the TV programme Ce soir (ou jamais!) on France 2 in which Stromae discussed and also performed "Formidable", which is about the story of a drunk man just separated from his girlfriend.[1][2] The video, taken by cameras hidden around the station, appears to show a drunken, disheveled, and distraught Stromae stumbling around the station, shouting snatches of the song's lyrics at passersby, falling down, and on several occasions appearing on the verge of stepping into traffic. Onlookers are shown recording the incident with their cellphones, but only one person intervenes to prevent Stromae from sitting in the path of an oncoming tram. The music cuts off abruptly as three policemen, unaware that this is a taping, approach Stromae to assess his wellness and to inquire if he has been drinking. Stromae reassures them, and the video resumes. In the video's final scene, Stromae leaves, followed by his camera crew, and displays that his drunkenness was only an act by grinning into the camera, straightening his clothing, and clicking his heels. The video is subtitled "ceci n'est pas une leçon" ("this is not a lesson"). The video won the award for the "Music video of the year" category at the 2014 Victoires de la Musique.

Yeah ! Stromae is one of a kind. I'm Belgian, I live in Brussels and this mv was filmed near my house. It's rather upper town.

In Belgium, we don't care too much if we cross a celebrity in the streets, to begin with. So, ok people did know who he is and just considered "he's not well but I need things to do, so let's call the police just in case". And the police was simply concerned if he was able to handle himself but obviously one of them at least knew that's just one of his artistic stunts.

Not only that, he sold out Madison Square Garden 3 times, performed on Colbert and Fallon, has Madonna, Kanye and Will I Am as longtime fans,... Oh and the fuzz ain't that worried about drunks in Brussels 😂( and I don't know Who told you we got mad when he found out, but as many of us thought it was pure genius, like anything he does)

The encounter with the police was definitely better because he is a star, but( not sure for belgium but i would assume the laws are similar to germany) being intoxicated in public isnt illegal, unless you are actually causing distress for the people around you or endangering yourself and others. The song absolutely slaps by the way

I'm italian and yeah, europeans in general are more kind and polite than american... big cultural shock is they are less polite!😅 Second cultural shock is the lack of city center and third is the credit card and loans culture.

TBH This song lyric is extremely poor... It's more about... The act. That's a good live song, but not that interesting to actually hear.
