This strong thunderstorm cell made its way over Jones Beach State Park shortening the beach time of some visitors enjoying a warm summer day. At 5:39PM, doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near Coney Island moving northeast at 30mph. This thunderstorm brought the threat of gusty winds and half-inch hail to eastern Queens and western Nassau County. The thunderstorm began weakening the further east it moved, but still was able to produce some 30mph wind gusts and 15-20mph sustained winds measured by our field team. No hail was observed by our field team.

Our field team measured the highest wind gust of 30mph, with sustained winds at approximately 15-20mph while at Jones Beach State Park intercepting this strong thunderstorm.
