Hi I came across this video today and after battling for over a year with no real success i feel that these exercises will be of a great help. I say this after badly failing at the chord hop exercises as well as the independent finger movement exercise using fingers 1 and 3 then 2 and 4. at least i now know where to focus my efforts as although i can form and ring out several chords still can't swop between them well enough to play even the slowest of songs. I am a man of 64 so not the most dextrous of people but after trying these exercises think this is the way to go, so a big thank you for posting these exercises.

Thank you so much for your message! It warms my heart to hear that these exercises have helped you on your guitar journey 🙌🎸 I understand the frustration of being able to play a chord really well, but then feeling like it all falls apart when transitioning in time to a beat. The chord hop exercise is absolutely going to help you improve your chord change speed. It’s not an overnight success story.. it will require repetition and practice 🎸 you got this! Well done and good luck 👏🏻🎸

Liked AND Subscribed for sure ! You see pro players staying so close to the fret board , .. but obviously they have already mastered the fret board . Your lesson makes soooooo much sense regarding tapping your leg to erase your chord shape and your position on the fret board and force yourself to build the shape again . A VERY valuable tutorial again as always from you Amber . Just a taste I suspect of what a Stellar Guitarist online student will learn in your online course ! P.S. - I've noticed a difference right away in the first half hour of practicing regarding how this helps me make quality chord changes. This whole tutorial is going to be a part of the start of every one of my practice sessions .

Keep it up, work on one or two exercises a few minutes a day and watch your muscle strength improve in chords and picking. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brillaint excercises, also great for warniing up. I love the slap knee and land on cord exercise. I can do the open chords fairly easily but it gets harder dooing barrre chords. My third finger absolutely refuses tio do the gym wirk out exercise. Just not into it. It might go from E to G but not that is as far as it will go.

@@thestellarguitarist Good to know. I liked the sound. I have the spruce / sapele model and was looking to upgrade (to the Koa) as mine has the older electronics that have been discontinued. I will be sure to try out the mahogany too, to see what sounds best. I may end up with another spruce because it is bright and cuts thru the mix. It can be heard better in playing with other instruments, especially piano. Thank you.

Such a brilliant video. As an advanced beginner (I know it’s an oxymoron) the ghost finger exercise was so helpful. As was the chord hopping. So good. If I may be so bold, may I suggest how important it is to tuck your fretting hand elbow in nice & tight to your hip/waist. This helps to keep your fingers perpendicular to the fretboard. Thank you Amber for giving back to the beginner/intermediate guitar community. Cheers from 🇨🇦

Hey Matthew! Thanks so much for your message 😃 I’m so glad those two exercises helped. It’s strange, because we don’t make any sound with those two exercises.. but often hearing a chord sound buzzy or muted discourages us from practicing. So removing the sound factor allows us to focus wholeheartedly on the strength component which will then RESULT in better sounding chords! 😁 great that you mentioned the tucked in elbow! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us here in the community 🤗

I have a pinky that is not parallel with the other fingers, It rolls on the outside of the finger or kind of lays on its side on the fretboard. Is this fixable?
@thestellarguitarist
@thestellarguitarist 5 ай бұрын
Hello! Try to practice in front of a mirror or video record yourself. I think that when looking down at your fingers you may be over thinking it. Having a pinky finger that rolls slightly to the side is actually normal! As long as you are able to get a good sound when you push the string down with your pinky, you are doing a great job! 👏🏻
@tgf5652

I noticed you tend to pull the 4th, 5th, 6th strings toward the floor a small amount during the spider. I do the same and i thought i was doing it wrong but maybe it's ok?
@thestellarguitarist
@thestellarguitarist 3 ай бұрын
Nope! As long as the notes sound clear and the ‘pulling’ isn’t altering the pitch of the note you’re all good! 🙌

Hi, these excercises are painful and frustrating. At least in the beginning. Do you have any recommendation, how much time should be spent on these? What is your experience to keep it in a useful balance between enjoying to play guitar and the pain to improve guitar playing technique?
@thestellarguitarist
@thestellarguitarist 5 ай бұрын
Hi Reinald, I’m so sorry to hear that these exercises are painful and frustrating. This indicates that you may need to dial it back and start with simpler exercises that don’t require all 4 fingers. So for example, just practicing the 2 legged spider exercise using 2 fingers. Doing too much too soon will result in pain. I’d also stagger these sort of exercises, 2-3 min every few days. You need to build up stamina and strength. In the very beginning stages your focus should be on coordination with your strumming and chords. Once you have that, these exercises should become more achievable and actually enjoyable!
