StrongFirst Instructors must meet each of these technique standards when testing during the SFG (StrongFirst Girya) Level II Certification, in order to earn the SFG II Instructor credential.
The skills tested include:
Windmill
Double Push Press*
Double Jerk
Bent Press
Double Snatch
*Note: The kettlebells are lowered into the rack with the arms relaxed, the impact absorbed by an abdominal brace and a knee dip. The kettlebells may also be lowered using the Military Press style controlled descent.
Demonstrations performed by Master SFG Zar Horton. Narration by Chief SFG Brett Jones.

Anyone else notice on the Push Press the standards say you must dip when lowering to "catch" the bells, but the demonstrator does not dip on the catch?

Anybody knows why in the double snatch the KBs are lowered to a rack position and then down, instead of all the way down in one move as in a single KB snatch?

@sakaoratbunthamphithak3563 3 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of safety, because irrespective of one's strength, we simply don't weigh enough to safely anchor the force two heavy KBs will generate when dropped from overhead. It can mean a face plant at best or an injured back at worst.

Knee safety. It explains this in the book Return of the Kettlebell.

Why do these styles seem so much more rigid than the kettlebell sport lifts? Wouldn't it be very challenging to do long cycle lifts like this?
@BeStrongFirst

Simon, yes, but that is precisely our intent. It is the difference between sport style and "hard style". At StrongFirst we teach and practice hard style techniques. The intent is to have the greatest carryover to GPP and less so to sport-specific (girevoy sport) efficiency.

@@BeStrongFirst i would think thay gs jerk would provide a much stronger gop carry over due to the greater wattage, volume external load, mobility, efficiency and time under load found in gs training protocols.

Grant Curle absolutely agree! MUCH greater general physical preparedness from Girevoy Sport 10 min type sets due to the reasons you stated than some BS arbitrary rules such as ‘your heels leaving the floor IS NOT ALLOWED!’ Lol

And what about ‘women your arms cannot touch your breasts ...lol! Try racking double jerks without a woman’s arms touching her breasts! For women with larger breasts that would mean dangerously externally rotating the forearm to beyond vertical which places very unsafe forces on the shoulder joint. Again, ridiculously arbitrary rules set out by probably an egomaniacal ‘leader/rule maker’ trying to differentiate ‘hard style’ from Girevoy Sport.

SFG standard: 24 kg. There are slightly lighter or heavier weights depending on bodyweight and age, but most men use 24 kg. Please see our web site, and look under Certifications, and you'll find all the standards and requirements.

Thanks for the video content! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you tried - Chireetler Kettlebell Miracle Rule (just google it)? It is a good one of a kind guide for learning some amazing kettlebell challenge workouts minus the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got astronomical results with it.

There is no spine torsion? That’s clearly total nonsense or the shoulder girdle wouldn’t rotate during the windmill.

I think hardstyle lifts seem to take away the actual benefits of kettlebells, ie. the more fluid and lax movements, efficiency and mobility. Might as well just use dumbbells

@Jussi, a kettlebell is a weight and, as such, can be used in different ways and for many purposes. If you visit our web site at StrongFirst.com and join our discussion forum, you'll find this topic has been discussed regularly and at length, and you're welcomed to contribute your opinion to the conversations.
