Testing my Alaskan Chainsaw Sawmill
Stihl MS391 with Oregon 36" bar and ripping chain.
For those of you that leave comments and have no idea what your talking about the Stihl MS391 is much too small for regular use with the Alaskan Chainsaw Sawmill but it's what I had and I only had 2 1/2 logs to square up for the bandsaw sawmill. So there was no point in buying a $2k power head just for this job. The chain is super sharp as I use an Oregon chain sharpener to sharpen my chains so going slow is the only way to not overload the MS391 power head.

Thanks for showing a huge log. I Hadn't seen anyone cut one that thick yet. These huge logs are what I'm trying to conquer at the moment. Thanks for the inspiration.

Yeah you just have to knuckle down and go for it. It was not easy but possible and I'm 67 years old.

Hey What rails are those? Could you explain how you made them?

The rails are aluminum extrusion. You can buy them and cut them yourself or find a company who will cut and supply the pieces for your design.

What kind of wood are you slabbing? and how long has it been on the ground? very curious. i just started to learn slabbing:)

It's a red oak that got blown down in a storm. It was down about a month before we got to that end of the 100' tall tree. You really need a big power head to do much slabbing.
