Hi Cody! I'm 12, and I only started swimming on a team about six months ago and was the slowest person on the team. This was pretty discouraging, so I didn't work as hard and skipped practice whenever I could. Then, I found your videos. Your positive attitude got me much more excited about swimming, and now I work really hard and give it my all! I've gotten a lot faster. Thank you for making videos, you're super inspirational!

Write you heat, lane, and event number on your arm with a sharpie, that way you don't need to keep checking the board, and you can avoid any confusion behind the blocks.

Kudos to Ray Looze. Some coaches never really get it but as Miller reports, this wasn't "coddling" or hand-holding. Acknowledging an athlete's challenges, a little encouragement, and what Miller reports on the vlog sometimes happens. I'm sure Coach Looze was pleased as well. And the times! I had to go back and run that by again. Maybe we should all feel so crappy before practice.

I can totally relate to how your practice went. Practice for me yesterday, however, was opposite. I went into practice feeling good and strong and I didn't have a headache for once, but I had a bad practice. We did a lot of IM conditioning and I tried to go on the faster interval, but it ended up being touch and go. You just have to trust the process.

I really like that you talk about when you don't feel good because I struggle when I don't want to be there. I have a pretty intense temper so when I'm in a mood, I'm in a mood and training is even harder when I don't want to be there and I'm in a mood especially with the sets I don't like. So I like hearing that even the top swimmers just have to deal with it too and hearing what you do when you're feeling that way is really helpful.

Hey, Cody! I think I might know why you had such great workout. It's just an assumption, soI am not sure if I am correct. The point is that when we are stressed, bothered and especially angry by some small annoying things that happen to us, level of some hormones rises up (like cortisol, I guess), so our bodies are more productive like in extreme conditions. I had such situation in my Masters heat. I felt bad in the morning, I didn't get on the only train to the town where the heat was, so I was literally pissed off, I was afraid that I will not get there in time, have enough time for a warm up, spend a fortune and a lot of time to get to another town and order a taxi from there. When I got into the pool I was really angry. But I showed time way better than me and my coach expected.

Greetings Cody. Earlier this week I posted this to the MySwimPro community Facebook group: ‎Siphiwe Ka Baleka‎ to MySwimPro Global Community September 24 at 1:15 PM "So I did the set for the last time before I leave Saturday for the !st International Masters Swimming Championships in Cairo, Egypt. I wanted to do better than my performance on September 10th where I did the set breaststroke on :40 at target time 14.4. The last time I made 8, missed, then made 1, missed then made 3. Today, however, I had a rough morning. Internet problems made it difficult to get work done, I had some difficult clients, and I have had some back issues lately. So I wasn't really motivated when it came time to go to the pool. But I remember one of the US National Team members, I think it was Cody Miller, talking about teaching yourself that you can swim fast even when you aren't motivated or not feeling good in the water. So I adopted that mindset, that I was going to prove to myself, that I could still swim fast today even though I didn't want to go to the pool. When I started the set, I went 13.9 on the first one and it didn't feel like I was going all-out. So instantly I thought I am gonna beat the 8-1-3 performance. On the second repeat I went 14.2 but I felt a twinge in my right adductor magnus. I had this problem several times in 2016 and 2017 leading up to Masters Swimming World Championships. So as soon as I felt just a little twinge, I immediately decided not to aggravate it anymore. I grabbed my pull buoy and decided to pull the set while doing a dolphin kick. My first repeat was 16.3 so I arbitrarily chose that as the target time for the rest of the set. And I actually finished the set. I made 17, missed, made another 5, missed, and then finished the remaining 4. Even with the buoy but doing dolphin kicks, I had several 14's and mostly 15's, and I felt really strong. So today was a strong victory for my mental game and overcoming some adversity while making adjustments in order to do my best next week." Thanks for this video. For me it, is one of the most important lessons to help me - to always remind myself, as you just did, that you don't have to feel great to swim fast. myswimpro.com/blog/2019/08/06/a-swimmers-race/

Blizzard XD I used to do 6 swims, 5 dry land 3 meditation practices a week but because of my university schedule I had to cut it down to 3 swims, 2 dryland and 3 meditation practice a week. However that doesn’t make me feel good about myself so I’m gonna start doing running everyday before classes and on Wednesday night I’m gonna join a ballet class to work on my flexibility. I never do anything on Sundays unless I have a meet. I’m 25 years old.

I did swimming g for my local team for about 1-2 months and... it was something. I went from 1st lane to 3rd In 2 sessions, but the 3rd lane was too fast for me and I was so slow. I watched so many videos on how to get faster but it never worked. It was so toxic for me because the coach did more distance than technique, ergo I never learned how to get faster, ergo becoming even slower, ergo getting shouted at by the coach. Plus one session 2 girls showed up, who were swimming quite fast, but was in our lane. One of the girls kept on touching our feet and when we got to the other end they said to the other one “oh my god they are so slow, it’s pathetic” and that’s what got me. I left right there and then. My parents sent an email saying I left, and what happened? Didn’t even notice I left.
