my understanding is the applicants that get in to Harvard w/ affirmative action are quite brilliant as well. There is a myth they are not. AA just keeps the school more evenly diverse, which well when you have so many qualified applicants who should all get in why is it so horrible to use diversity as a factor? There are other great schools besides Harvard and it is not necessary to go to harvard or other ivy leagues to be successful.

Sadly the affirmative action benefits primarily the people from overseas who grew up differently than African Americans. The Duke student in this video is an example of who is really benefiting from it. She probably didn’t go through discrimination when she grew up in Nigeria because of her skin color. The stats showcase that most people aren't accepted because of Legacy kids and rich kids who have parents that can donate millions to the schools. Yes, that aspect of AA wasn't much different than the racial cap Ivies used to have on Jewish students, out of prejudice. It's just "we can't have to many Asian students here. If we don't limit them, they'll flood in because their culture values studying." now. However, African Americans still face unfair and often unconscious racial bias that might manifest itself in admission decisions, and I'm sympathetic to how this policy was meant to balance that out a bit. The biggest problem perhaps was how it lumped Asian American students together. Two immigrants from Asia could be from vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds. Some Asian countries or regions within are very poor. Their children then might grow up with different conditions and opportunities. I wish they could somehow reform and modernize the policy than completely ban it. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater in regards to helping African Americans overcome very real and often unconscious racial bias.

Im 23 now and came from nothing and now I have a good life with a beautiful girlfriend and we are both successful. It was hard to live with the burden of the trauma that I’ve faced but through it, I became a person of good values. Respectfully, you're expressing an ideal situation. The real world doesn't care if you deserve or have earned your place. The rules are not the same for everyone; not the same for minorities in the real world. Racism is real. Kids from poor communities need these safeties to be able to ensure they at least have a chance to continue higher education. Not just for them, but also for the children of privilege, to learn to tolerate differences when they meet other cultures in their campuses, and later in life.

I agree with the ruling. I also agree that legacy admissions should be cut out aswell. No special treatment for anybody. You get out of life what you put into it. Except Black colleges do accept other races. That should change after this ruling but it won't so you can have your safe white spaces and still invade ours.

because "Black colleges" (HBCUs I think you mean) don't have a history of racial discrimination. I doubt you can even cite one example. Their existence and demographic makeup is due to racial discrimination from predominately white schools. Look at West Virginia State University - an HBCU that isn't even 13% Black you think they are biased against white people?

You sound Nigerian honestly. I went to a competitive university, and I will say that the majority of African (white or black) HATE African Americans. You can try to write an entire novel about your experience but the TRUTH is that the majority of people in academia for some reason HATE African Americans for no other reason that they hate African Americans. As a mixed race Native American and African American, I was treated the worst by the African students at my university who often joked that the students from my demographic where only there based on their status as the 13%.

They should have different universities to serve different IQ individuals: 1. being the highest 10. being the dumbest That way everybody knows where they should belong. Don't reward lowly IQ individual at the highest if they can't compete. In fact, you're not doing them a favor....they would not be comfortable EVEN if they get in. You can't throw a hellish person into heaven and expect them not to writhe in pain before they start diving (head first) back into hell where they belong.

You and people like you choose to ignore the facts: ALL colleges choose from a POOL OF QUALIFIED CANDIDATES. They have always done that. However, Black students were OVER LOOKED AND ADMITTED EVEN IF THEY HAD THE QUALIFICATIONS. Affirmative Action was a way for QUALIFIED BLACK students to be admitted when otherwise THEY WOULD NOT HAVE.

No she said that student will now have to write more specifically about how race affected their experience growing up. Since race can’t be considered, personal struggles can, so that’s the way to get “around it”.

@@freddyt55555 i don’t think they were necessarily denying that, they were just filling in the blank where I had a misunderstanding. Realistically yeah, if a student still wants to use their race as a reason for hardship, then they just need to write about it now vs have it be assumed. I think this is how things should be though. If you truly have had a harder modern life due to your race, then putting that in your essay should be totally fine. But the idea that colleges will just accept anybody based on race due to preconceived ideas of hardship, then we take away from the people who truly work to make a life for themselves in this world.

Way to take it out of context...you can literally have complete accuracy now. No closet get away with racism any longer against minorities with your logic...All is righteous without equal opportunity to fight clost racist and that is called sarcasm
