CORRECTION: When talking about Manifesto, I accidentally stated that Trash had been re-recorded in a more dance oriented style. I meant to say Angel Eyes. I tend to get those two songs mixed up. D’oh!

I was a fan of the earlier Roxy music songs. It seemed like Brian ferry tried to refine his voice too much. But then, refining his voice probably has contributed to his longevity as a singer. I saw him. It's maybe been 2014 at the latest and he was still very good. Couldn't quite hit the highest notes but definitely a good show.

great review. no bad roxy music. seeing them live wad brillant ferry solo. roxy music aernt we spoiled ferry is a master of style im old and grew up with roxy and solo ferry im revisting as of now cheers thanks for u review

Congratulations mate, its nice to hear somebody who still appreciate great music I saw Mr. Ferry twice in my country, both amazing concerts,sadly Roxy Music never came here. Regards from Argentina

I'm not a die hard fan tbh but I do love Siren and Country Life (despite its tasteless cover) The live album Viva is also a great listen and the performances there generally are more dynamic than the studio versions. I used to love Avalon and I still give it an occasional spin but it's just a bit too slick for my tastes. The Streetlife 2LP compilation is a great way to get many of their best songs for the casual fan.

That’s fair enough. I find the trajectory of their discography fascinating, and I really do like all the albums. Even Flesh & Blood, my least favourite, has some great moments.

I pretty much agree with your rankings with one exception. I would extract Avalon out of the slot you assigned and move it to #8. Keep the rest the same. Maybe on any given day #1 & #2 are interchangeable. I also agree that there's not a bad album here. Love Is The Drug is still getting airplay on classic rock radio here in Baltimore but that's the only Roxy song that's ever been played. I'm also a huge Phil Manzanera fan and really love the 801 album. You could do entire shows on Ferry and Phil in their solo ventures. Hope all is well down under!

@@JCStorm76 As I said, there are no bad Roxy Music albums. Avalon was a kinda more a New Romantic album than I cared for. They weren't really a band anymore. Without a drummer, you're not a band. And the great Paul Thompson put the rock in Roxy's roll. I own Avalon and never listen to it. So in my ears, it's #8. Glad you love it.

Avalon was my introduction to this amazing band and it wasn't til my mid 20s when I went back to their first few albums that I truly appreciated how talented and brilliant this band is my top 5 are for your pleasure, country life, Avalon, siren and the debut

I think the first Roxy song I heard was their cover of Jealous Guy, so I wasn’t far ahead of you.

@@bicyclelegsmusic that's a good one but I was only just a little kid when Avalon was released so it was Bryan Ferry's solo stuff most notably boys and girls with the amazing album opener sensation and my personal favorite solo album bete noire that caught my attention and made me discover all of his Roxy music stuff

hey legs, going to comment before I watch but whether it be their best or not I would say Flesh and Blood meant the most to me out of their catalogue, that cassette was on HEAVY rotation in summer of 1980 in my little car along with Townshend's Empty Glass, sometimes nostalgia > actual greatness
