My Babymetal reactions:
• Babymetal
How many faces does Babymetal have? I don't know, but this one is completely different from the one I saw the first time I reacted to them: • Studio Musician | Baby...
Rondo of Nightmare 2:25 , was a pleasant surprise with some complex musicianship going on, while Karate 16:30 was a HARD banger, and at the same time a wholesome and pure performance... I swear the blending of the heavyness of metal, and the cute aesthetic of this girl's voices, is amazing!
0:00 - Intro
2:25 - Rondo of Nightmare
16:30 - Karate
This is merely for review, analysis, breakdown and constructive criticism purpose, I do not claim the audiovisual product I reacted to as my own.

I don't care what anyone says, BABYMETAL defied the odds and hatred. They are still the most original band to come out of the genre for the past decade. A metal fusion at its best. The small voices took a while to grow on me but damn these girls really know how to put on a show.

Very cool! I think that we, as musicians, are affected by aspects of what is going on here differently than many laymen would be. The level of professionalism, the thoughtfulness of the writing, the purity of the concept and unrelenting quality of the performance still staggers me nearly six years after my introduction to this group. They are my everyday vehicle to musical joy and it is watching as others realize this for themselves that has led me to watch reaction videos, Without BABYMETAL I would never have started following reactors at all. I have found so much to feed my own artistic growth in BABYMETAL, like the way they create mystique for themselves, the way that the scream and dance provided by the backup dancers acts as a bridge to the audience, the way the girls do not need to be made objects at all in order to be appreciated, even loved. The enchantment without any of the darkness. They even stole the devils horns and turned them into a gesture of innocence, joy, perfection and beauty... The amount of work and dedication required to achieve these things at this level pushes me to practice more, to learn more, to dream even bigger dreams than I did before I found them. As I related to you on my previous comment, "My favorite band, ever.". Kitsune dao!

Su is a friggin BOSS. Just from a technical side of things, everything she's coordinating, with great precision, is impressive. Then add to that the fact that while she's doing all that she absolutely commands the stage like some kind of war goddess despite being quite small. It's a pretty magical thing to see.

I love that you picked up right away on the time signatures in Rondo! You should check out their song "Tales of the Destinies" for some more wild prog metal. They only performed it once live and it's still amazing to me how they choreographed dance to the song.

Karate is such a reflection of who Nakamoto Suzuka is. Su-Metal was the 2nd class president of Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy). This song is about overcoming adversity and picking each other up. That really is a part of who Su is especially when she helps up Moa and Yui. Sakura Gakuin was a middle school music club/school. Babymetal was a sub unit of Sakura Gakuin. Graduation ceremony for Su and one other girl took place in 2013. All the words addressing Su demonstrated a love from each member of Sakura Gakuin towards her. Her leadership really was a big factor. When a performance of Sakura Gakuin (all girls) or a sub unit (such as Twinklestars or BabyMetal) didn't go well, Su was there to help encourage each member so they would do better next time. She's a real leader. You should check out Junna Drummer and her cover of Babymetal Doki Doki Morning. Nemophila is a super group from Japan that did an awesome cover of Megitsune.

Welcome back to the Foxhole, it's been a while 🦊🤘🔥 Nice selection of songs, both were composed by YuppeMetal (aka Yuyoyuppe), you'll hear more songs from him, he's also behind the arrangements of Megitsune and more new songs from latest album like Monochrome and Believing. _Akumu No Rondo_ combines not only heaviness with dark waltz and dope time signatures changes but also delicate and fragile beautiness that makes you wants to grab your inception kit and go to rescue this 16 yo queen from this nightmare. Temporarily title song was "Kill The Alice" so is like Alice but instead of Wonderland she's trapped in a nightmare trying to escape and avoid some evil entity. Rondo is a musical form in which you can hear a repetitive pattern, you can hear an example of this in the song "Blue Rondo a la Turk" The Kami Band doing their second magnificent intro of the night with their own set called "Mischiefs Of Metal Gods". They become regular after this special live at Budokan 2014 and leaving baby-bones, from early shows, behind, shout-out to them thou. Many people forget this was the day (night) after the first live premiere of this song and she's dancing and performing like she already did a dozen of times before, like a pro. Also she's showing some fierceness here dancing on that high dangerous mini stage with no wire and that's how she keeps winning everyone's heart. But not everything was perfect here despite their impeccable performance and sound, and the day before the girls face that dangerous challenge on the stage, taking their own revenge after coming back in 2021 to celebrate their 10 years and leaving those ghosts behind, fortunately. Like i said, YuppeMetal is the one behind this song and he took inspiration from "Protest The Hero - Bloodmeat" song, of course i recommend you to hear that blaster song. Thanks for sharing this wonderful SuMetal solo and my favorite along with _"Akatsuki"_ Keep watching all their solos because all 4 of them are beautiful and of course the rest of the girls under a subgroup called "Black Babymetal" are enjoyable too, so don't miss out their other 4 songs too. Btw if you want to know more about them you can watch *"A BabyMetal Guide"* by CrypticMisery, is the most updated guide and is among majority of BM fans the most structured and well focus on the informative side. Fans at Sabaton's Europe Tour are enjoying a lot with BM concerts as a special guests, hopefully you will too someday this year, you don't wanna miss this unique experience. Thanks for sharing these amazing set and analysis. See you next time.🦊🤘🔥

*Karate* _Ossu!_ 🦊🤘🥋 Certainly this song gain a lot of metalheads hearts into the BM world, that djenty and heavy riffs intro is so good, no wonder why many people was caugh upt into BM vortex with this song. "Karate" is one of their stronger weapons along with "Road Of Resistance". Is an uplifting song about keep fighting besides the obstacles, and if you watch the MV and take a look at the end you'll see in the eyes of their rivals that they're fighting against no other than themselves, but you already hit in the spot reading the lyrics. Some fans find anime vibes on this BM song, the only other song I could find with anime vibes, until "Divine Attack - Shingeki" came out, besides this one is "Syncopation". They're implementing kata and martial arts movements on this song, it's one of the few things along with the "Ossu" which comes from karate martial art, anything else like "soya, seya" shout those are related to Shinto traditional ceremony when people carrying shrines at festivals and it means something like "c'mon!" or "let's go!". They really put some effort doing this song and even watching the Karate Kid movie to learn something, i like to said that our girls are doing a hidden forbidden kata that was made to use against special enemies.👀 Around 2016 SuMetal used to make an improvisation when all of them lay on the ground, is something she does mainly during this song, you can find it in many others live performance around that year, including live at Tokyo Dome or Download Festival 2016. KobaMetal, the producer and creator, said they have _"theatrical performance"_ with all stage production, pyro, lights, cryo and everything to backing up the show and make them more spectacular like you saw during METAL KINGDOM, and in the other hand they have the _"strong performance"_ like this with nothing but their own talent on stage and the raw sound, just them and the crowd. The Kami Band here are a fantastic set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (specially the guitarrists), all of them are males. They are: - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.) - Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio' Fujioka's pupil and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar as well the golden guitar. - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP, almost stealing the show like the rest of them. - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is famous in Japan music scene. This was a live compilation from Five Fox Festival 2017, a special series of concerts held in 2017 with unique etiquettes, such Black Fox (only men), Red Fox (only women), Silver Fox (only children and grandparents), Gold Fox (only teenagers), White Fox (only wearing white face paint similar to Kami Band). It was the only time they performed a series of concerts under this Fox Festival title, although prior to this they held another concert called "New Year Fox Festival" in 2015 but that's part of another trilogy series of concerts and not all of them are called like that, later they held another big concert called Big Fox Festival 2017, which was the last time YuiMetal performed with this group. Put your kitsune up!🦊🤘🔥

If you always do two videos per reaction, I recommend the opening and closing for their concert "Legend S 1997" in 2013. 1997 was Su's birth year and this is her birthday show. The opening is Ave Maria/Headbanger. The closer is "Death." Both epic.

Glad that you stuck with it, dude! Babymetal are one of a kind, and there is much more left to discover. They did just release a new album, but perhaps it's best to work your way up to it. If you want to stick to some of the old fan favourites, then maybe do _Road of Resistance_ and _Headbanger_ next. Or if you want to be even more surprised at how varied their repertoire is, try _Tales of the Destinies_ (only performed live once, at the Tokyo Dome in 2016) and _Babymetal Death_ 🙂

Great & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。◆ For "Rondo" : Kamis' (=Gods') super solos were excellent enough as a main event in the show, but once the 16-year-old Queen (as of 2014) emerged from the underground, she colored everything differently with her penetrating voice then turned Kami Band's plays into a ritual to summon her. ◆ For "Karate" : No comment because yours is enough. Just one fact that Su's last high note was beautiful in 2017 and is better now with richness coming from her maturity. ◆ For "Fox" : Its a long story.

Great double reaction and analysis, thanks! If you like to count crazy time signatures you need to watch "Tales of the Destinies" live at Tokyo Dome 2016. 😁 And yep, their choreo and outfits have always been correct, proper for their age and respectful to them (and to people with good taste in general). Otherwise I promise you I would not be here.

I think you should definitely see tales of the destinies, that song is very interesting to say the least The fox stuff is part of their lore yeah, basically the fox god is some sort of god of metal who summoned the girls and explains the fox hand sign and all of the other related things. The lore gets pretty confusing and isn't really to be taken too seriously. It's part of their show and you can see insane scale fox imagery in some of their stage setups.

The point you made which I deeply admire is about us -"Westerners" - being conditioned that women entertainers must show some skin and look sexy to be marketable. I have always contended that the Babymetal girls then, and young ladies now have to break so many barriers, perhaps the most by any artists ever. By my count, they broke stereotypes in age, gender, race, spoken language/lyrics, presentation of heavy metal and to your point, the oversexualization of female artists. All at the tender age of what..14 - 18 yrs old. Yeh they may have only been "pushed" to do it but we can not deny, these girls delivered when called upon. Let us just be happy that we are experiencing this "experiment". I do not think we will ever see anything like this again. Would love to see your journey down the fox hole. Subscribed.

Thanks for this reaction, it's not just fun seeing you react to this, but it's funny how you hit one many interesting parts accidentally. You mentioned 16 or 18 in the Rondo performance, it's 16. Babymetal was actually youngest female group ever to perform at Budokan, 14, 14 and 16. Budokan in Tokyo is famous, The Beatles were the first to perform there. Think of it as: 'Madison Square Garden of Japan'. You mentioned Ariana Grande, it's actually the favorite singer of Yuimetal _and_ Ariana is a fan of Babymetal, she has taken photos with them, etc. One of the best things of Babymetal, let's judge based on skill instead of use sexualization. Any growling isn't live, just backing track, it's studio and possibly manipulated. One of the best parts of Babymetal live is best the 8th member: the audience Pretty much all the lyrics are empowering, Babymetal are great example for younger girls (and boys and grown ups) too. Yes, Babymetal did all of that, touring the world, but also still going to school. And Doing things like making homework backstage at metal festivals. Babymetal is crazy in the best way possible.

The Fox God is Babymetal's patron deity and you'll see lots of fox symbolism around BM #notacult. The Fox God summons Su to save metal and we even get a theatrical autodafe where that happens in "Babymetal DEATH Legend 1997". The hand sign they do at the end of Karate is a "Fox Sign" which is their version of the "metal devil horns". Megitsune is probably BM's most popular and performed song and it translates as vixen or female fox. I think BM's producer, Kei Kobayashi, might also be having a bit of a joke as in Japan the Fox God is associated with prosperity and business success.

Brace yourself because people are going to explain what's the significance of foxes in great detail 😂 I just wanted to say that the fact you mentioned how empowering they are made me really happy. Believe it or not, not many acknowledge this fact and if they do, they usually say it's empowering just for women. I feel like to me (as a guy) they are equally empowering. It doesn't matter what gender you are, ANYONE can recognize and be moved by true courage and passion. Aside from that, women raising up from adversity is also inspiring. It helps to close the ridiculous gaps there are between men and women. How strong could we be if we fought side to side against injustice?

Excellent music commentary on Rondo of Nightmare. Ohmura Takayoshi (2nd soloist with gold guitar) did some tutorial/explanatory videos on several Babymetal songs including Rondo. He talked about the rhythmic patterns often being in 7. And mentioned also how difficult it would be for Su- with the verses and chorus in 3. Someone did provide a link to an IEM capture where one can clearly hear the metronome counting her in at a few spots and the chorus was counted in by 3's rather than 6's. Interesting that there was no count or pitch cue for Su- to come in with the "scream" during the bridge. I am pretty sure this is classic Su-metal self-choreography. Although in general Babymetal songs are choreographed by Mikiko, I don't think she provides more than a consult or loose framework for the Su- solos. I could believe the brief *waltz* Su- does during the chorus was a Mikiko suggestion. But the choreo is very consistent from performance to performance nonetheless.

Fantastic reaction and thank you for showing Karate at the Fox Festival, I had not seen that one. They are doing the Fox Sign, not the traditional devil horns, the silhouette resembles a fox head. The Fox God is a central piece of their lore. I think BABYMETAL is the most beautiful thing to have ever happened to the rock/metal genre. I fully agree with your comments on western culture and despicable sexualization. I can't say anything negative about BABYMETAL even if I'd be picky. (Line! on spotify) after listening to it a few times, I can't skip Iine anymore, it's a ride...never listened to Uki Uki midnight, too much dubstepy for me...after a few times listening to it when I didn't feel like skipping..its now on my rotation... Give it time, gimme chocolate will be one of your favorites, every car around me gets to hear it to 😂

"Karate" also features djent-like riffs and a J-pop melody. Loudwire's Graham Hartmann described the song as "incredibly charming. Instrumentally, it’s also heavy as hell. The song’s main riff is way low on the sonic spectrum, chugging away in a no-nonsense djent fashion." “Karate” took home the trophy for Best Metal Song @ the 2016 Annual Loudwire Music Awards. Karate explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Karate choreographed described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese 🇯🇵. That "Hashire" in karate will always tear me up every time. It just gives me a sense of epicness and energy that I have never felt with other songs before. Su-Metal voice has matured over the years now that she is in her early 20s. Noticing little things like Su-Metal removing her IEM at the 2016 UK 🇬🇧 Download Festival to hear the crowd always gets a thumbs up from me. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult. There is more that you can hear from Su-Metal in-term of vocals:- 1. "Amore" (Wembley Arena). 2. "No Rain No Rainbow" (Legend A Baptism XX). 3. "Akatsuki" (Budokan Black Night) & (The Unfinished Version @ Makuhari Messe). 4. Rondo Of Nightmare With Mischief Of Metal Gods Intro @ Budokan Black Night). Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult. Rondo Of Nightmare/With Mischief Of God Intro/Nippon Budokan & Yokohama Arena:- This is one of 4 Su-Metal solo songs. The other 3 are:- 1. "Amore" (Wembley Arena). 2. "No Rain No Rainbow" (Legend A Baptism XX). 3. "Akatsuki" (Budokan Black Night) & (The Unfinished Version @ Makuhari Messe) KamiBand:- The KamiBand are the instrumentalists (or backing band) in BABYMETAL - Each member is a "god (Kami) of music" summoned by The Fox God stage by stage. All the Kamis have their own jobs and side-projects in addition to BABYMETAL. Current Members Who Perform At Nippon Budokan:- •Takayoshi Ohmura (Guitar, ESP SNAPPER-7/R Twinkle Pink). •Leda Cygnus (Guitar, ESP BLUE CUSTOM). •Daisuke 'BOH' Bohte (Bass, ATELIER Z BETA 6, Boh'S CUSTOM 6). •Aoyama Hideki (Drums, YAMAHA Signature Drum Kit). Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse:- BABYMETAL is the youngest act to perform at the Budokan and artists need to be invited to perform there. Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse (stylized as LIVE AT BUDOKAN ~RED NIGHT & BLACK NIGHT APOCALYPSE~)[a] is the third live video release by the Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal. It contains two concerts performed at Nippon Budokan shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album, and was released on January 7, 2015 in a standard edition and a limited-edition box set exclusively for "The One" fanclub members. Nippon Budokan (日本武道館, Nippon Budōkan), often shortened to simply Budokan, is an indoor arena located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. Originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics, its name translates as Martial Arts Hall in English. While its primary purpose is to host martial arts contests, the arena has gained additional fame as one of the world's most iconic musical performance venues. A number of famous rock music acts have played at Budokan. The Beatles were the first rock group to play there in a series of concerts held between June 30 and July 2, 1966. ABBA ended their last tour there. Their final show on March 27, 1980, was the last live concert ABBA performed together. Numerous acts have recorded live albums at Budokan, including Bryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Cheap Trick, Dream Theater, Duran Duran, Kiss, Mr. Big, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Journey and Deep Purple. Shinto, part of Japanese culture , is not a religion but, a way of life. 💯👍 All things upon this earth have spirits that live with us.We just call it 'Nature' . Inari Ōkami (Japanese 稲荷大神), also called Ō-Inari (大稲荷) is the Japanese kami of foxes, fertility, rice, tea and sake, of agriculture and industry, of -primarliy to BABYMETAL, general prosperity and worldly success and one of the principal kami of Shinto. To BABYMETAL and the KAMI band, they do sometimes change up bands. The Kitsune (Foxes) are literally messengers for Kami, and BABYMETAL themselves feel, they are the same, Foxes and messengers to the World, or the way. Suzaka Nakomoto or Su, born in Hiroshima Perfecture, Japan, World heritage site of the 'Atomic Dome', the rest is history 😁👍 even said in the early days, the Fox God, guides them on stage, and the energy to do as they do, the performance. Did not read ALL the comments but, sure someone has mentioned the fox sign,( or hand-sign) you mention is their adaption, ( of I guess what Weterners call, a metal band signature) for them alone. The rest I leave to otheres, especially since this is a reaction from, at time I posted, 4 months old. Sure many have enlightened you to more about them since. Nice breakdown from a musicans ear, tuned to hear what we sometimes do not. With BABYMETAL, I feel, I like to know all about them, including their background. Which to answer some of your questions?? If you YT search, 'Sakura Gakuin' (a school of acting, musical performance in Japan, that consists of girls of up to junior high). You will see they have been doing this in various ways on stage, since they ALL, learned to walk! ,...And It shows, as your comments tell us. txts and, God Bless. 🙏

DId you notice how stable SU's voice was, even while jumping during the Karate breakdown? Insane :) SU was 16 when she did that Rondo of Nightmare performance, and she was 19 during that Karate performance! I can agree that Gimme Chocolate can sound cringy, but that's why I loved it ahahah As you saw, they can have many different styles, and they blend all kind of metal genres with other genres. You can find Power metal, Death Metal, Prog, Rap Metal, Industrial, Pyrate, Electronic, Dubstep, Bollywood, and whatever comes to your mind xD About the Fox: yes, it has importance in the Japanese culture, but also here it's also lore. Legends say that when they showed the girls the MEtal Horns, they mistook them for the Fox shadow play! Starting from that, their producer started all a lore about them being summoned and given power by the Fox God! This was also used to kind of protect them when they where really young, so when they were asked questions they couldn't or didn't want to answer, the just replied with "Only the Fox God knows" :D

Excellent reaction and analysis. As we said before and as you saw here for yourself, BABYMETAL are not like the vast majority of female artists who use sex to sell their records, they are all about the music, the performance and the talent. I think you understand now why they have so many fans - and why we say to watch their live performances. The Budokan in Tokyo is one of the most prestigious venues for concerts, it is the place all Japanese and many foreign artists aspire to and dream of playing and a small minority actually get to do so. It is a martial arts arena originally built for the 1964 Olympics. BABYMETAL became the youngest average age female band ever to headline there - Su was just 16, Yui and Moa still only 14 ... and they sold it out 2 nights running as they released their first album. This was just the second time Su performed 'Rondo of Nightmare' live - the first was the night before. There can't be many singers who could follow an instrumental intro like the Mischiefs of the Metal Gods from the Kami Band - Su did and she owned that stage from the moment she rose up from below. Yes, they reinvented the metal horns🤘with their own version - the kitsune or fox hand sign.🦊 Legend has it they were being shown the horns and mistook it for a shadow play fox - their producer Kobametal ran with it and created an entire lore around the Fox God, so ever since they have had storylines and elaborate stages featuring foxes. The 5 Fox Festivals in 2017 were a series of concerts they played with very specific audience requirements (red fox was females only, black fox males only, white fox every in the audience had to wear corpse face paint like the Kami Band, Silver fox was children and people over 60 only, I can't remember what colour was teenagers only ... I think I have remembered those correctly). They finished with the Big Fox Festival. 'Rondo of Nightmare' is one of their darkest songs lyrically, 'Karate' is one of their songs with a positive message (most of their songs have a positive message, some like 'Gimme Chocolate, are just fun, happy songs. I'm looking forward to whatever songs you choose to react to next ... and I am hoping you will do their entire catalogue.

Do it..buy tickets dude. Ps. Also a musician. Pps. This was only a support show for Sabaton, so bare basics, can't wait to see the full show sometime.

Such an amazing band, amazing musicians, amazing singers. RIP to the sweet, and amazing Ko-Gami - The Small/Little God (Mikio Fujioka) he was one of the Original guitarists. He was called the the small gos Because he was only 5'1/5'2 He didn't miss a single of the girls performances. He was there for every big milestone. He also did work outside of the Kami band. Other gigs, and also teaching. He was taken too soon.. between December 30th 2017 when he was injured. And January 5th when he passed. His presence missed from their stage. 🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻
