So many art projects and so little time! I'm clearing off my desk today to get ready for some new projects and want to tell you about what's coming up.
Two things you might be interested in:
1) I'm starting a weekly video series and I hope you'll participate with me. I'll be demonstrating how I collage with prompts. Get the free list here if you want to participate with me:
🔴 margarete-miller.ck.page/8879...
I will start this month in June and the plan is to do a video on a collage a week. Check out the list so that you can start looking for pieces to set aside for your collages!
2) I need help deciding what to do with the cookbook I picked up at the estate sale a few weeks ago. Here's the link to the poll where you can choose a suggestion, or leave a comment there if you've got another idea. Thank you!

That is a really neat old recipe book! You could scan it and make a digital kit. That would preserve the original book. Maybe you could make a new cover and binding. You should definitely keep the book, though, it is a special find!

Nice video Margarete. You will have no problem with the stamps, just warm water and wait. Your cook book is amazing! I know how difficult it is to start to use one of these treasures but I'm sure you will make pretty collaging with it. Have a lovely week my friend!

I would not be able to let that special cookbook go. And … IMHO - it needs to be kept intact, as much as possible. Love the idea one of your subbies had, to create a special tin for it. This book deserves respect. Tx Margarete for sharing it with us.

I voted in the poll to donate the book. This cookbook is like a little cultural museum, similar to a time capsule. I would scan some of the most interesting pages, then donate. The historical society might have contact with a book restorer who can prepare the book for display or whatever they prefer to do with it.

Rather than get the stamps wet, try using a hair dryer on the back and carefully warming the plastic sleeve. The stamps should release when the glue warms up. Looking forward to the series!

Loved your video Margarete! It looks like you've received a lot of great responses on what to do with your cookbook. I think I read one about putting the recipes on smaller cards and using them as inserts into collage or journal pockets. Love that! You can also collage them as a Christmas or Holiday card and send out to family and friends. Whatever you decide , it will be fabulous!

My husband used to put stamps that were affixed to envelopes and postcards in water with a couple of teaspoons of salt They slid right off the paper, then he would lay them on a dish towel and let them dry. Don't put them on a paper towel because they'll stick to it. He collected stamps, I inherited all of his stamps, and one of my projects is to organize them by country then put them in a stamp album. I have quite the job in front of me.. My vote would be to see if a museum would be interested in the cookbook . There are maritime museums and museums that have oddities, so I'm sure there's a cookbook/cooking museum that might be interested?

I voted in the poll for the cookbook. It is a treasure and I believe someone, some where would love to add it to their collection. As for video ideas I look forward to seeing your approach to using prompts. Also I send a lot of greeting cards and it would be fun to see how you would collage on envelopes. (Just "thinking of you" envelopes or special occasions.) Thank you for sharing your talents!! ❤

Goodmorning Margarete, That cookbook.....the first thing that I thought was "how valuable". Is it an idea that you look for a box where you can store it in? Decorate the box in this cookbook theme and find a historicus or historyclub or group or museum to give it as a present? Or a rural association? Good luck and curious to know what you will do♥️

I made folios at Christmas with a small removable notebook and several pockets. I also had a very old cookbook that I didn’t want to keep but was was lovely innthe the page texture and colours. For each folio I pulled out a recipe or instruction that was complete, front and back on one page and included it in one of the pockets. The ladies I gifted them too a loved the old recipes and actually made them. It’s like visiting a kitchen in the past.

I have an old cook from the early 20’s that has recipes and then newspaper/magazine recipes glued on top of pages along with recipes handwritten in the front, back and other pages. The pages are yellows, blotched and brittle. So far I haven’t brought myself to use anything out of it. I picked it up for a quarter at a garage sale and fell in love with it once I really looked at it.

I couldn't help but be moved by the images and items in your cookbook. I have a collection from my Great Aunt who was an outstanding baker. She collected recipes in a composition notebook. (They haven't changed much since the 40'w and 50's.) some have anecdotes and references, like bridge parties or Christmas Net tree instructions. She and my grandmother used "Scotch tape" from a round tin. Occasionally I got to add some of these recipes to the book, I loved the tape. My mother, and Grandmother added a few more. The tape is yellowed with age and mostly unstuck. If I dared to use it there are over two hundred "ephemera" samples from the 50's 60's and 70's. Although I don't cook quite like that with Crisco and Campbells soup, it is a walk-through time for me with the creative wise women who shaped my ideas, and I wouldn't lose it for the world. I know someone is looking to ride down their own memory lane. Your cookbook is the perfect ticket.🥰

You realize that the postage stamps given to you are still usable at their face value. In the past I received some like you & soaked them, which took the glue off the back. I still use them by gluing them to my letters in the amount required in current amounts, You could make some lovely projects with them, but you can also use them to mail your current correspondence if you want. They are legal tender.
