From a Manhwa reader's viewpoint, this is literally the starting point of the story. The other S rank hunters and jeju island where not even introduced at this point in the manhwa.(not even Cha Hae In was introduced). To put it in perspective this is similar to the point in a superhero movie where the superhero gets his superpower and makes a makeshift costume.

kinda like how in the anime they show a glimpse of the jeju island arc and the S-rank hunters its like they’re setting it up for other seasons to come since in the manhwa the arc dont appear until a few chapters

@@Xeno_Solarus I agree. The manhwa has amazing visuals, but the anime did a lot better direction. There were so many times in the manhwa when I thought "I hope I got to know more about this side character," especially the minor characters from the Hunters Guild. So I was so glad when I saw they were introduced early and even had their own scene. That and many other reasons I like the anime's direction.

Apparently it has been confirmed for 6 more cours at least (72 episodes), so I feel great knowing the studio can take their time to tell the best story possible. Also Solo Leveing: Arise video game just did a soft launch and is seeing massive success already, so I think they are trying to go full franchise mode, meaning they will have the capital to also keep the quality very high and not feel the need to chase profits. It has all the tools be a generational show of the next decade

The arise part is hype, but the reason why everyone was so excited for this episode is because of how much everything picks up once he unlocks his class and overall how cool of a character necromancer Jin woo is

Yeh, the best part of the Shadow Monarch class is that he isn't just a necromancer. He is the Monarch of Shadows. Spoilers!!!!! Frankly, I'm waiting for when we get the scene of the people losing it after sensing what lurks in his shadow. That and unlocking the shadow tp, that rocks

About what you guys pondered over the fact that the show could get ripetitive, well that's kinda the thing with solo leveling, you get hyped at the over the top edginess that gets more and more crazy with the power scaling becoming higher and the stakes too. But it's as simple as that, that's the beauty of this manhwa, you don't get over the top complicated plot or character development, it's straight up jinwoo flexing how strong he is in different context ahaahah

@@dontmove1085 ok that's a valid point but at the same time it isn't, because they are for sure trying to make the cast more relevant, but putting some scenes here and there won't surely affect the overall idea that you got from them when you read the manhwa. And for many people this is also bad cause the pacing is really slow and one of the selling point of solo leveling was the fast pacing. The anime follows more the novel but a book is different from a tv series.we will se how things goes in cour 2.

Well get to see more of characters ambitions and dreams or motivations. They already shown that the direction is willing to even change some plot times to better fit the narrative, we can have some hope lol

You guys should remember that the penalty zone is more of a training area rather than a punishment place, it exist for Sung to go there and increase his strength if he doesn´t complete the daily training plan, so how the daily exercises don´t increase in difficulty the penalty zone works the same way.

Actually in the novel, after this trip to the penalty zone he gets a message from the system that since he hunted during the penalty, the difficulty in the zone is going to increase to compensate from then on.

@@NawniColes In the webtoon jinwoo went to the penalty zone on purpose to fight strong monsters ,and gain massive amounts of levels, but in the anime it was by accident, and he survived the job-change quest by mere luck. And im wondering what's going to happen in jeju island raid, we haven't heard anything about the s-rank hunters from japan yet, and jinwoo also havent progressed near as much as he did in the webtoon.

In concept/art/cool powers the manhwa is perfect but the one aspect laking a bit is story depth which is not needed as much when reading. I think the anime so far has added just enough to spice up the story while still keeping all the good elements

A short spoiler free review of jeju island: first s rank gate opened there, and as it was s rank they cant close it and dungeon break happened. And after 3 raids(unsuccessful) and several s ranks hunters dead it was closed off and now they are evolving naturally to hunt humans and now can fly so they are leaving island. And they are ant type creatures.

Regardless of the system leveling him up for his actions, he still puts himself into situations where he’s pushed to the brink, Jinwoo spends more time with a foot in the grave than any other hunter but refuses to fall in and give up

actually the anime miss some of the detail, but very important to a non-gamer audience, from the ne romancer to shadow monarch its a promotion from a job class, and shadow monarch is the highest rank of the necromancer job, in the manhwa it explained by jinwoo, if warrior be berseker or something like that, i hope they dont miss the little detail like that on the next season, overall its still the best anime manhwa adaption so far

This whole season was just a prologue focused on getting Jin-Woo into the position he is now. He can now finally interact with other S-ranks and also have them be fleshed out as characters more. I don't think the manwha or light novel even really showed those character until later anyway.

Non-spoiler: There is definite characterization with Jin Woo in the aspects you guys mentioned. As someone who was always weak and reminded of it by people and by his inability to help his mom and sister, his almost obsessiveness of trying to help his family even if it is clearly hurting him got shifted to him now obsessively trying to get stronger to make money but then, he was teased with getting the ingredients for the cure-all so his focus was then shifted onto something else. So far, he is definitely becoming less tied to his humanity as he is pretty much alone with no one to ground him and he’s just obsessively focused on doing what he couldn’t do before. He’s also been interacting less with his mom and sister due to this new obsession which could be a commentary on how the Korean youth obsession with video games can potentially create a space between them and their family. The characterization is there but it’s subtle. Which I like. I also enjoy the in your face growth arc of many anime but like this also.

The best way to explain solo leveling - it only now begins. He finally got his special power, and now the actual challenge and story begins! Like when Ichigo from bleach first got his soul reaper powers/bankai kind of, that’s the big starting point for solo leveling getting his necromancy powers… it gets even better from now & other characters will get to shine, along with more story and less only the MC

More than the "Arise" moment itself, what's really hype about all this is what it means going forward. Everything about the show including Jinwoo is about to turn up to a 100x from here on wards. 'Necromancer' may sound off putting at first, but just wait n watch, its possibly the coolest thing to happen to Jinwoo. And yes its not the most complex story out there, its quite simply all about Jinwoo leveling up and becoming an absolute badass, but what i love about this series is how appealing they made that quite simple plot. It's just so damn cool & entertaining to see Jinwoo grew into his new found strength & title and as well his epic fights with his shadows.

They kinda figured out the entire episode in the intro just by analyzing the title of the episode LOL. Ngl this show doesn't have that deep of a story but for me it's just about turning my brain off and enjoying the fights and in the case of the manhwa it was about enjoying the art too because it was great.

In Dragonball z's reference, Solo Leveling story is still in the part where goku is learning the Kaio-ken. It's even better in the coming seasons. I'm not gonna say anything to avoid spoiling.
