I have a friend, combat disabled vet from Iraq. She has been falling in her tub on the daily so I'm helping her by installing a curbless shower. Great video! I was a wallpaper hanger for 25 years before going into home improvements professionally. I always pulled on the taping knife as pushing usually results in punctures. Pulling will get rid of air pockets and you won’t ever get caught off guard. I see Jordan teasing you about fussing with things like the floor membrane but your way gives you comfort, costs you and him nothing and peace of mind is priceless. My wife once said when my answering machine gets played back she has never in the 30 years of living with me heard an unhappy customer call. When my kids were born customers sent or came to the house with baby gifts after seeing the birth announcement in the local newspaper. Now just get Jordan to be that tuned in and continue your level of finishing. Go STUD PACK!

I am a handyman and bathroom and kitchen remodeler. I am in the middle of tiling my own master shower. I love to see how other craftsmen do things. Thanks for the great video. I always pick up a nugget of knowledge.

Just watched part one and am now half way through part two. My father, my uncle and myself a couple months ago gutted my parents bathroom down to sub floor, wall studs and new ceiling drywall as well. We did as much work as we could, drywall, cement board on the shower, built a bench in the shower. Did plumbing and electrical ourselves. We had to pay a tile contractor to do exactly what you are doing now, and then the tiles. $4900 we had to pay for the job. We had to rush the tile contractor to finish everything in 48 hours so it was a needed extra price on the work. This was all for my Grandmother coming home to live with my parents from the hospital with her second stroke in two years. It was a necessary reno due to her condition. Long story long, we could’ve saved a few thousand dollars and wait time with scheduling knowing what you provide on your videos. Just want to thank you for making knowledge and visual hands on application available for people who could really utilize it. I subscribed. This video will save major money and headaches in the future, for me and for a lot of other folks. Thank you ! Keep on with your channel. Made my day.

One of the best shower pan installations I have seen on You Tube. I always tile and grout the floor first for the same reasons you mention. Also, to me, it just makes common sense to have the wall tile installed last, lapping over the floor tile - that way the water will always shed away from the joint where the floor tile meets the wall or the water will never ever have the ability to even get close to it - I started doing it that way over 30 years ago.

I was ridiculously happy when you marked the drain to orient it properly. That's the kind of detail that would drive me nuts in my home. May be silly and small, but attention to that type of detail is huge to me!

Watched a lot of different videos for the past month getting prepped to do the job. Your are the best.

I always set the floor tile first, even when using larger format rectilinear tile. Among a few other reasons, it is much easier to get a consistent bottom wall joint with the floor in place.

Tip for these grouts... place your working bucket into another bucket with ice. This greatly extends the working time. As for cool water, I placed gallon jugs of water in the refrigerator overnight so it was very cold. These two combined help immensely.

I love that you get into the details, the small points that are often overlooked and can cause a shower to fail. I've been tiling for 17 years and I prefer to set the floor first whenever possible. That being said, I'm cringing at you not using gloves. I protect my hands from the damaging materials not only when grouting, but also when setting. Tile stores carry a brand called Thickster that I use with thinset, and I use some black, long cuff gloves that HD carries when grouting. It may not matter for the once in their life DIYer, but for us that make it a career, it's essential.

Just remove all the stones in the beginning. Lay them individually, wont have to worry about layout or cutting. We just mix, then while it's slaking pull the stones. About 10 minutes later your laying while your buddy finishes getting u stones. No down time, less headaches, done faster. You guys do killer work!!

This was a masterclass. I just went through an 8 bathroom remodel and the tile guys hired were learning to do tile on my job. It took 11 months and a lot of heartburn and anxiety. Thanks for the video.

This video convinced my wife to let me tile. I had her watch the steps you’ve taken so far and she believes I can do it now. Lol

You probably know this, but you can (and I did on my recent remodel) still do the walls first if you set your layout and use ledger boards to support the second row up. Just leave the bottom row until the floor is done. Was my first big tile job, so I went that way to keep from slopping so much thinset on a newly tiled floor, setting ladders on it, etc.

Pro tip for slowing the reaction- use a TINY bit of ice in place of some of your water in that grout mix. The phase change absorbs WAY MORE energy than cool water possibly can (same reason sweat evaporating can cool you down). It’ll open up your work window with no adverse impact on the hydration process, so everything else is the same. It’s a tip I learned from a civil engineer who specialized in concrete mix design. Now I use CSA cement whenever possible because every process moves so much faster with an identical work time.

A microfiber cloth after sponge would have removed the light haze that's on there...

Leak test really should be done with a plug, otherwise you don’t test the flange to membrane bond at the drain.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just cut the sheets of tile to fit while there still on the mesh instead of removing the individual pieces and cutting them to fit later. Couldn't you have placed the drain upside down on the center of a mat , mark and cut with a grinder ?

Love it when people take pride in there work, stay a little extra to get the details, and always thinking of the small details that make a difference. Keep it up.

I always like seeing real old time installers that probably tore out the old lead pans installed liners/ weep systems and now we get to use these fleece membranes which speed it up so much.
