Watching you demo the kitchen, I"m reminded of an "oops" moment on the old "Home Time" TV show (Dean Johnson). They were demo'ing a kitchen, and had a section of cabinets hanging over a peninsula. They tore out the peninsula, then turned to the cabinets; he gave it one little almost experimental thump with the sledge hammer and the whole damn thing fell off the ceiling. It had been installed with about four short finishing nails that barely penetrated the cleats bolted to the ceiling, and it's nothing short of a miracle it hadn't fallen down on its own.

For the niche, I'd be tempted to build in a coffee center. Plumbing in a small waterline would not be too tough since the ceiling is already open, and it looks like you have power already. But a coffee center is only useful if owners really like coffee. I do, so that is where my mind goes.

I really thought you would make the wall that separates the kit/laundry room a triple wall since there is electrical on both sides. I’m curious to see how you handle that. Good stuff. Interesting to see the non time lapse when you took out the tile in the bottom of the window. It always looks like magic. That just proceed there is no magic. Just hard work.

Personally, I never ever tore out a customer’s kitchen cabinets or anything else till I had all their new cabinetry built along with any other woodworking we were doing in the kitchen or the rest of the house. Customers normally weren’t without their kitchen more then a day or two unless it was a unusually large kitchen then it maybe take 3 days at the most. I always did my best to make things as convenient for my customers that I could!

You didn't mention blocking off the drain line that's from the dishwasher at the garbage disposal.... For others thinking of doing something like this, if you don't block that line entrance you can end up with a good bit of water in that cabinet when it's used heavily. A short burst of water should drain below the opening but for extended runs or if some waste gets in the disposal and stops it up a bit, all the water goes into the cabinet. And you don't even want to think about how messy it'll be when the disposal gets turned on.

Air gap to the right of the faucet makes your scenario Impossible
@TheSidneySmith
@TheSidneySmith 3 жыл бұрын
@@markd2322 I see no air gap installed on that sink. I don't recall seeing any views of the under sink hook ups, but with no air gap above counter (and air gaps are rarely installed from what I've seen in numerous sinks), it's a fair assumption that the dishwasher line is plumbed like 99% of all the others and the drain line goes directly into the disposal. When disconnecting a dishwasher and pulling it, most times the drain line pulls out with the dishwasher, at least in my experience replacing multiple brands. Plus, my statement was a warning for anyone else doing something like this in the future to note that if you leave that open, you will be likely to have a bunch of water under there in use. Not everyone is an experienced plumber and a general homeowner undertaking a project seeing something done may not realize all the intricacies involved, and this is an easy to overlook point.
