Massive thank you and huge shoutout to the Envision Decking team. We've really loved working with their stuff and ya'll can be confident it's going to look great for whatever you're doing!
envisionoutdoorliving.com
Aluminum railing is one of the most durable options you can choose to install in your outdoor living space. It is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and won’t rust, splinter, or warp over time. The naturally strong and light-weight properties of aluminum make it easy to handle and structurally reliable in nearly any environment. We can't wait to see how it holds up against this Texas weather over time! Thanks for watching gang, see ya on the next one!

Message to Jordan - about time I said this - I can't think how many times I have watched your videos and thought "NICE camerawork" as I saw how what Paul was saying was accompanied by a PERFECT match of a zoom in on exactly what he is talking about. So many videos in this genre have us wanting to reach into the screen and grab the camera lens and point it where it needs to go (example - Risinger has had a camera person that drives us nuts that way - sorry Matt, but I know you already know from the comments). The editing is spot on, too - as someone who has painfully edited video I know the HOURS that get put into it. But you need something good to edit with, and thinking ahead about that final cut and what you need to capture visually to make it happen - dude, that is movie director stuff - I do not exaggerate: serious talent. Well done.

I was a construction laser dealer before I retired. I have a tip for you for future reference. I noticed your PLS5 is an older one, Made in America. They were made by PLS back then & were pretty good. They cannot be repaired or re-calibrated only replaced. However, if you ever need to replace yours DO NOT replace it with another PLS pin or line laser. The company was sold to Fluke & the mfgr of these was outsourced to China. The Chinese made Fluke ones were so bad (we were sending half back to Fluke that were bad) that we just quit selling them completely. Side note: If you want to check calibration on yours set it on the ground, turn it on, & center it on a mark on the ground & make a mark on the ceiling (preferably 12-15 feet away. Some masking tape & a Sharpie will do) then turn it 180 degrees. If the laser does not point right to the same spot, it is out of calibration. If it's out vertical, it's out horizontal too. It cannot be re-calibrated.

I have a bosch made for flooring guys that shoots (2) 90deg. continuous lines on the floor and (1) 45deg. line if you want it to ,or ,the 45deg. line can stay off. Its self leveling and a fairly strong beam to! I shot it across a studio sound stage probably about 3-4 hundred feet and I could read it fine. I have another self leveling one I bought at lowes about 30 yrs ago that I use for walls. It shoots level and plumb lines and still works fine and it can be recalibrated! Just dont ever drop them!

South Carolina here and the ceiling color is called Haint Blue, keeps the bugs and bad spirits away. Sherwin Williams has some good selections that range from bright blue to toned down versions with hints of green. Definitely paint the ceiling some shade of Haint Blue because it will make those natural cedar tones pop!! Keep up the good work Stud Pack!!

I vote you paint the porch ceilings "Haint Blue." It's a great Southern touch. Sherwin Williams Waterscape (SW6470) or Benjamin Moore Lookout Point (1646) are Charleston, South Carolina favorites. Anyone that's visited the grand estates near The Battery know the beauty of this color. Now all Brad needs is a old fashioned "joggling board" for his courting future.

I love this channel, and this video in particular. Just the way pops said "but this is real life" and then all the spur of the moment issues that need to be solved. His skill/knowledge 100% makes a massive difference, but even if he wasnt as clean and masterful as he is, i think one of the real true marks of a craftsman (especially carpentry) is your ability to think on the fly and overcome hurdles. To do so cleanly is a different level of experience but its gotta start with you just thinking "i can fix this" or "i can work around this". Love that you guys not only keep, but put some focus on these hiccups that are legitimate parts of any type of trade or craft but that a lot of other channels might edit out to make the video look more "produced" and perfect. Man i love watching you guys, you always pick up stuff from seeing another dude think about these things, and no matter how much you know you'll never stop being impressed by little tips or logic used. A mark of a true craftsman is that "i can solve this" but arguably the biggest mark of master carpentry is being able to hide any evidence of issues, whether your fault or not 😂

I've even used their black semi-transparent stain on textured cinderblock to create an accent wall in a basement room where I did not want to cover that wall (due to an addition, it was an interior wall anyways, and with the black stain, it made a nice accent wall while saving me the work of framing out a beauty wall over it, and losing a few inches of room), and it has held up great in every application.

Im surprized that those horizontal rails meet code. Typically those would be considered climbably and would not be compatible with current building codes for the same reason as the 4" rule you mentioned. Typically you would have a top and bottom rail, with pickets (balusters) vertically so that kids etc cannot climb up and over.

Sky blue for the ceiling would be traditional and look great. Black would look AMAZING and modern to key off the railings, light fixtures, and windows. White (house paint) would be my third choice but look nicely complete and integrated. The only thing I would NOT recommend is the cedar staining. The beauty of those cedar columns is their contrast with everything else. They are more of a statement if only the cedar posts carry that statin. That’s my two-cents. The whole build is shaping up nicely. It’s a real pleasure watching your beautiful family bring this idea into reality. Cheers and continued success.

When I redid the trim on my cedar garage door I put everything back with GRK trim head finish screws. I would rather have mechanical fasteners and have everything hold strong and straight I just don't have a lot of faith in brad or finish nails for outdoor wood applications. You don't really notice the heads enough for it to be a problem. I'm sure the further along you get your really wish you hadn't used those PT posts and went though all the trouble with the wraps but you just keep making it look good, live and learn and share with all of us with a smile and I love that.

Stain the porch ceiling !! That will make all the wood seamless and look very high custom!!

You got alot of that stain left, so might as well use it up on the ceiling. I think you guys got me sold on these railings instead of cables. Good show.👍

with the wasps already starting to nest, I would go with the light blue for the porch ceilings

I love the pipes in the railing. I know someone that used 3/4 EMT. The ends were secured with drilled out wooden plates, attached to the posts. Very handy for areas with drastically changing temperatures. It has that bright look to it, without the cable hassles.

I think you should do the roof of the patio black, BUT you should also add a starry night fiber optic ceiling to make it extra special, the same roof effect they put in rolls royces. I bought a kit for ~$250, it's not a difficult install and the wow factor is +1000x. Years later I've never gotten tired of it. It's also done in home theatre rooms so there's lots of resources for finding supplies and how-to content. So far I'm 2/2 on choices, I suggested the wider slats and plain tiles

We painted our ceilings on the porches black. It makes it seem cooler on the porch and then added black exterior ceiling fans. It makes it seem like you are under a tree in the shade. Perfect for a cooler porch, especially here in the South.

I vote for the cedar stain for the ceiling and doing the same for the bottom section. However, do a test stain on the pine because stain always looks different depending upon the type of wood.

I like the interactive portion where you asked if anyone saw anything wrong. I’ve learned a lot from your videos and it helps. I’ve already done one house flip! Wasn’t amazing but i did it! And each day I would be done working I would watch another video from you guys and learn more. Or study on what I was gonna do the next day

Horizontal railing is not a very good ideal for a second story deck, It becomes a ladder for children to climb up, Very Unsafe, looks very just very dangerous,

That's why he has the electric wires... not just for the lighting but also to make the railing electric. That will discourage the kids from climbing.

About 10 years ago, I installed approximately 600 sq ft of light blue beaded vinyl wainscot under a wraparound front porch ceiling. It was in a historical area where all colors needed approval. A southern tradition.
