Hello, If you are unsure about something, all you need to do is read the Bible. It has all the answers to the questions you are seeking. Genesis 2:18 states that the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” It says 'a' helper, not 'helpers'. The word 'helper' first of all, is singular. It is not plural. The inclusion of the letter and word 'a', means again, that it is singular, not plural. God made A HELPER, not HELPERS for Adam. He made one woman for Adam, and that is Eve. He did not make helpers for Adam. Genesis 2:24 states: "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." It says his 'wife', not 'wives'. Wife is not plural, it is singular. A SINGLE WIFE. Now, to discuss your comment: "at least up to two wives for the purpose of increasing our numbers". What do you think is the purpose of life? Do you think that the ultimate purpose of life is to "increase our numbers"? Do you think the purpose of life is to increase the population of humanity or the amount of people of a particular religion? My friend, let me tell you, it is NOT the purpose of life. Remember, our life here on Earth is temporary. Our life here on earth is fleeting. One day, not a single human will exist in this world. So what is the point of increasing our numbers? This is not the purpose of life at all. The purpose of life is to go to Heaven. The purpose of life is to go to the Kingdom of God. God's Kingdom is permanent. His Kingdom is NOT fleeting. His Kingdom is NOT temporary. The purpose of life is to attain eternal life, and the only way this can be gained, is by entering God's Kingdom. Having more than one wife will not get you there, my friend. It will not. The Bible clearly states that one man should have one wife, and that is all. This is stated in the FIRST BOOK of the Bible. Do not skip to the New Testament. The Old Testament is worth reading too. It has the answers to countless questions regarding Christianity. It has prophecies, commandments and other wonderful things that deserve and need to be read and acknowledged. Now, if you think that "increasing your numbers" (this short term, temporary and merely mortal purpose) is more important than going to Heaven and living there for an eternity, then by all means, have more than one wife. The Earth and everything in it is temporary. It is not permanent. It will all end, and everything in it will disappear. The amount of children you make with your wife or wives will not matter. What matters is after everything disappears, will your actions lead you to Heaven or will they not? Study the book of Genesis and you will have your answer. Don't expect people to have to re-instate what is plain and clear in front of you. Seek God's Word YOURSELF. He will tell you Himself. He will tell you all these answers in the Bible, in His Book. Genesis clearly teaches us that God made Adam "a" helper. A "wife", was made for Adam. Eve was made for Adam. There was no one else who was made for Adam, only Eve. Only ONE woman. Not 'women', not 'wives', and not 'helpers'. It took me a few seconds to find these answers in the Bible. Don't restrict yourself to a few books in the Bible, or solely the New Testament. Every single word in the Bible is important. Every single word has meaning. Every single Book in the Bible is important and essential to life. Every answer that you seek is written in the Bible. All you need to do is look, read, listen and open your mind to God's words.
