@@respectablepiper2267 So what did you end up getting? I just got a Stanwell and let me tell you, it smokes like a dream even without being broken in. I can't wait to see how much better it gets once it does break in. If you get a Savinelli, beware of the churchwardens.

I went from cobs to briars and then back to cobs. I actually prefer the smoke quality from the cobs more. Altho i really want to add a Peterson 303 and a Chacom reverse calabash to my collection.

Alright, so out of curiosity, I cracked open another tin of 1792 flake last night. Whatever prior tin I had opened in my previous statement must not have been very recent production. This new tin had a thick Gawith & Hoggarth cardboard insert on top of the tobacco, which is the first one I've encountered in new production Samuel Gawith blends. I had a quick bowl with only 10 minutes of dry time and was surprised how well it behaved.

3:30 - "as you can see the warning labels have finally caught up with us." Yeah, I find those labels to be rather insulting. I understand what I'm smoking. I have weighed the "risks" and made my own decision. I don't need these obnoxious labels to tell me that "tobacco is known to the State of CA to cause .... blah, blah, blah." or other warnings. If they must , I'd prefer that they stick those warnings on the underside of the tin , so as not to ruin the original label art . (I notice the Peterson tins I have purchased recently -- 965 , EMP , Elizabethan Mixture -- don't have the front label ruined by a warning label.)

This was the 2nd latakia blend i tried when i began smoking pipes. The 1st was Night cap, and i got a tin of Blackhouse in a package deal from Pipes and Cigars. I actually avoided opening the tin for months for some reason, but when i did decide to crack it open, i was incredibly impressed with the tin note! Its responsible for creating the latakia junky in me from then on. I just got back into my pipes and tobaccos again after a long break, and you inspired me to purchase 4 tins of it :) Great review brother!

On tin opening , the aroma that struck me first reminded me of a really fine burgundy pinot noir wine. It really had something wine-ish to me... Stunning blend. It is funny how replacing syrian from the original 759 with cyprian latakia , the blend still reminds things in the spectrum of Hh vintage syrian . Great video as always, spot on review

Holy crap Bradley. As a Canadian viewer I tend to not watch your stuff much during the winter as I just don't partake in the pipe during the cold winter months. So having not seen your videos in a while, it comes as a pleasant surprise to the full time videographer in me to see how much the production level in your videos has increased. Looking very good, job well done. Looks like Sony color science to my eyes if I'm not mistaken (just a guess).

To make good use of that white empty space on a tin, I wish somebody could create a way where we can custom-print our own half moon stickers with our names on them alongside a fancy design. Just like you put those little boilerplate stickers inside a book ("This book belongs to: ").

I remember being able to buy black house in bulk. Never had it in a tin. I find black house to be better fresh then aged. It seems to dull out after a few years. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend trying hearth and home marble kake. It's a virginia blend that's very reminiscent of Mcclelland 5100 imo.

I appreciate the review, Bradley. Do you think you could compare-and-contrast your reviewed blends with other blends? For instance, maybe many folks have tried Gaslight but not BlackHouse. By referring to other blends it could give relatable points of comparison. Just a humble suggestion; by no means do extra work if it doesn't come naturally. I like to save my partially smoked pipes for later with a half piece of wine cork as a plug. I suppose one could also insert a pipe cleaner into the stem to further block ingress air. Maybe give it a try sometime. Cheers

Hi Bradley. THANKS for all informative reviews. I'm an amateur pipe smoker and recently I've discovered that aromatic tobaccos are not my type so now I'm fascinated about trying virginias and vapors. Hi Amir. Bradley asked us to give our recommendations here, so that’s what I’m going to do. He’s much more of an expert on Virginias and VaPers than I am, but so far, my favorite English blend is Presbyterian Mixture. I look forward to trying Peterson Standard Mixture and Samuel Gawith’s Squadron Leader. I can’t comment on those yet, but Bradley is a trustworthy guide. I have found that I really enjoy Balkan blends like Presbyterian Mixture that include orientals. Hope that helps.

Just another note to HIGHLY recommend Magnum Opus. I put off trying it for years because - as stupid as this is - I think the gaudy tin art and name turned me off a bit. But, it has become probably my second favorite blend of all time (20+ years with the pipe). I'd choose Magnum Opus over any Esoterica blend (several of which I also really like). The only one that beats it for me is a Peretti blend using an Oriental varietal called Xanthi that I find absolutely unique in the "T" world... but for a wonderful, old-world "Balkan" blend, I'm willing to say that Magnum Opus has no peer!

I too give my t- an initial char. I find that it smokes better and I get to the sweet spot of the bowl faster. Quick question, is this an aromatic English? All this sweet flavor this and sweet aroma that makes me think that it is. If so, I’m not interested. And if I don’t want an aromatic style product, then some other like minded individuals will get turned away before giving this a try. Please clarify. Also, what a great blender Russ is.
