@@peterclohessy9425 Many of actors were of the same generation as the men on the beaches, and some had seen combat (Michael Bates was with the Gurkhas in Burma), so that would help. However, I don't understand why Nolan did not make greater use of CGI. It is frequently mis-used, but it can also provide greater visual historical accuracy and avoid breaking the audience's attention by the intrusion of objects which are very obviously not 'period'.

Yes, the Harry Styles effort got rave reviews, i didn't rate it. This version was much better.

The best scene ever. Part of Blitzkrieg. Dad's army mate said they were running. All the ranks. They faced Panzers with Bren gun carriers.

I watched this movie a few times over the past year. It was on TCM but I frequently used other sites to watch it on demand.

They knew what was coming. They should have run. But the orders were to stay, so they so they stayed. I've been in the army, and I can really appreciate the final comment by the soldier, " I hope somebody knows what they're doing." After a while you can get to questioning the people "up the chain" who send you out day after day on dirty, dangerous work.

My Dad went back on The Royal Daffodil. They (team of 4) did manage to ambush a German troop carrier while retreating, stuck the 25-pounder muzzle through a hole in a cemetery wall and hit it point blank, killed them all.
