Tour of a beautiful and minimalist A-frame cabin that measures 950 square feet including the loft. The cabin has an open-concept kitchen, living and dining space, two bedrooms, and a full bathroom. Most of the furniture, like the beds, shelves, benches, and kitchen table were built by the owners using plywood.
It’s heated with electric baseboards and a lovely locally-made wood stove.
In this video, Marie-France also shares some of the challenges of building a cabin of this shape and height.
This was a family cabin and a rental at the time we filmed it but it has since been sold.
Thanks for watching!

The A frame is adapting so well with environment. Love the set up inside the boyfriend is a great asset!!! And all inside decor provide a strong peaceful feeling. No TV or informatic paraphernalia’s is surprising indeed. We should all open a reflexion about the impact of that on our lives. Thank you for a very refreshing video!

Love your home. I also live in an a frame cottage. My dad built it. It is thatched and although it does not snow in the part of South Africa where I live, I do have a photo of my house covered in snow from a snowstorm we had a few years back.

I like how the A frame is not as efficacious as other plans but it still looks the most spacious. I don't know how much 950 sq. ft is but the fact that you guys made space for a total of 2 queen beds and a single bed is damn wonderful. Also, the headspace above all the beds is wonderful.

I'm glad she said that A-frame is not cheaper to build. It is assumed that it is since the roof also acts as the walls. Now knowing that it's not cheaper to build and you lose a lot of space due to the angled interior walls, I will no longer consider building an A-frame. It just makes more sense to build with 4 walls and a roof. Efficient and cost-effective design is important to me.
@haljasonfoster2169

Same thing here but have you looked into Arched Cabins instead. They are cheaper than A frames and have some of the same design appeal with more space.
@palebeachbum
@palebeachbum Жыл бұрын
@@haljasonfoster2169 Not too in-depth, but I have looked into arched cabins some. They do seem like a better design than an A-frame. I wouldn't want it to look too industrial though. That's my only concern. I also don't know how the cost compares to a typical building with walls and a roof.

Interesting to see the appearance of white walls near the wood stove after couple of years of using the stove. Having experience with wooden stove in sauna - glass door becomes black due to soot. If fume goes outside (usually happens in the beginning, when fire just starts), immediately all nearby surfaces become black. Also chimney has two angles, which could be the cause for clogging and harder to clean, rather than straight chimney. However, design is nice and outside is gorgeous.

Intelligent design with a great colour palette that focuses on the beauty outside. Love that you have full size kitchen appliances and the built in bench is both space saving and adds a homey, kitchen feel. I'm not personally a fan of plywood but in this case it is almost unnoticeable. The main floor bedroom (#2) is well designed giving privacy to guests. Outstanding finished product.

LOL...This feels large to me...I have a 513 sq' single apartment which includes a balcony I never use. It's well thought out. I really like the furniture he built, it is simple and utilitarian, but it's color and 'smoothness' provide for a more elegant feeling. All in all this place is very nice.

You've got to get on board with Incredible Tiny Homes in New Port, Tennessee. Randy Jones is killing the market with affordable prices on his Tiny Homes & the communities he is developing in Tennessee & now an off grid community in the Nevada dessert just one hour from Los Vagas. This home is nice & all & although I like it, these kind of A-Frame Homes most people nowdays can't afford something this nice. People need affordable places to live in this world right now with inflation going through the ruff on housing, food, & everyday expenses going crazy & your paycheck is stretched as far as you can stretch it. We need affordable places to live. We all can not afford a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage all setting on 5 to 20 acres. Oh yes it would be wonderful to do that. But what happens if you get sick or lose your job? For a family with 2 incomes & now you've lost one your not going to be able to pay your bills very easy. Just some food for thought here, bc anything can happen & then your up the creek w/o a paddle. Have a wonderful day, Chris from Missouri

Very pretty and lovely to live in such house however VERY VERY energy and space inefficient! No chance for installing solar panels on the roof because the open glass is facing south
@acchaladka

This is in Québec, using hydropower, therefore solar is pointless. Batteries is a better choice if your want to have uninterrupted power and heat, though she has a wood stove so may not need them.

@@jamesengland7461 I look at that high ceiling and all that open space, look at huge glass, even if high performance and triple glazed openings, I can't stop wondering about energy losses. The man who came up with those principles is shaking in his grave every day! I'd love to be proven wrong and learn this house is energy efficient
@soundslight7754
@soundslight7754 Жыл бұрын
@@acchaladka Québec = extremely cold winters = higher demand and dependency There are 4 energy considerations: economics, independence, sustainability, continuity of supply. If the said hydropower plant runs all year round, nearby and owned by the owners then yes, all above addressed. That one stove isn't the only heat source and wood burning isn't environmentally friendly, even if sustainable on the location

@Alexandar the Serb the whole house is usually heated with electric baseboard. The stove is for fun. This is in Québec and is their usual setup - she says 'cabin' a lot meaning this is a chalet, mostly used for weekends, having friends over for skiing, etc.

On the outside, this looked like a lovely place to have a home amongst the snow but I'm afraid that inside, it came across as a harsh, empty, cold, stark and completely uncomfortable house. If I'm tucked away inside looking out at a beautiful snowscape, I want to be viewing from a cosy, comfortable home. This most definitely wasn't it.🇦🇺💖🕊
