This would never be permitted in our area that close to water. But the soils did look like a nice sandy loam.

Lol. I started watching this and the FIRST thing I saw I thought damn this truck driver has balls. He’s going to get stuck. I drove dump trucks and I’ve seen some not so good outcomes occur on slopes 🤣. I wasn’t shocked with what I saw. Glad it worked out

It looks like Roberts did an excellent job. That backhoe driver was amazing working on the hillside in the narrow space. Great video!

If you pump out your tanks, all of them, every year or two, the system should never fail
@Wingnut353
@Wingnut353 5 ай бұрын
Not typical though most people aren't spending hundreds of dollars to get it pumped every year... more like every 5-10 years as needed. My grandfathers was never pumped for about 40 years its still working fine to date.

I was stressed just watching them use all their equipment trying to get the truck out. Was that an anticipated plan or was there some anxiousness on site?

Ya that makes two of us Josh! These guys were the only contractors even willing to do the Job. One guy laughed at me when I showed him where we needed the system to be installed, then, literally stoped talking an walked away:). The truck getting stuck was sorta anticipated but the guys handled it like champs! Good hearing from you Josh! Lake warrior aka kevin:)

I installed a similar drywell 3 years ago for graywater only (laundry & water softener discharge). I surrounded the drywell with a generous bed of course stone (1x4 inch), to enlarge both the capacity and enlarge the seepage surface. Curious why you didn’t surround with similar stone?
@lakewarrior1443
@lakewarrior1443 9 ай бұрын
We used 2-3” washed stone. About 2-3’ around each drywall. Roughly 10 yards of stone per tank! Thanks for watching! Lake warrior

Wait so in 20-30 years and the 3 drywells fill up, you got to do that all over again to fix it, or is there access to clear them out?
@lakewarrior1443
@lakewarrior1443 2 жыл бұрын
Believe it not mike but yes, in 20-30 years this might need to be replaced. The trick to getting more time out of it is preventative maintenance. Once every 3-4 years we will pump the tank and dry wells. We did add clean out access to the dry wells so they can be pumped. The trick however is if the dry wells are holding water it means the grey water isn’t leaching into the ground hence not working properly. Living with a septic for your sewer system does indeed come with some strings attached! Lake Warrior!

Use Roebic septic line cleaner every 6 to12 months keep those dry wells clean and the gravel stays clean and drains properly that’s your preventative. Or use pressure washer and use pump sux it out then power wash crust off

What was the estimate the contractor gave you for this job? And was the final actual cost close to what was estimated?
@lakewarrior1443
@lakewarrior1443 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dylan, I had three estimates and these guys were in the middle at 13,000.00. I trusted these guys to get it done an actually when the bill came they charged me 11,500.00. Roberts brothers Escavtion is a stand up company an I highly recommend them!

Why is it that you couldn't use a standard distribution drain field?
@lakewarrior1443
@lakewarrior1443 2 жыл бұрын
Hey mark, we didn’t have enough space for a standard drain field.. also since we are on a pretty severe hill we would have had issues with the grade of the drainage field. Could have tiered it in but again we run into issues with the size of the field. The health department ultimately made the decision for us interns of the system in the end. Good question!
@mberge1

@@lakewarrior1443 Okay thanks for the answer. I looked at a house for sale here in North Jersey, I think it needs a new septic and the back part of the lot is on a sever hill. The house has been vacant for 8 years maybe more. I am trying to get estimates on what it would take to have a septic put in. The house is a 2 bedroom with 624 square feet of living space on a 100 x 123 foot lot with houses that have well and septic on either side of the house.

Hey Mark, depending on the property this could be a very very complicated thing. If you haven’t purchased the property yet I’d recommend calling the health department to get info on that property’s well an septic. They should have a record of what’s currently installed an when it was installed. I would proceed with caution on this. I have a neighbor who is close to abandoning their cottage because they can’t install a system due to their property. So it’s really good your looking into this.

I'm looking at properties in Central Virginia that don't have city water. What a nightmare. They have tightened up the rules drastically. Realtors don't know/don't care. The state Health Department woman i posed some questions to was of no help. It's almost as if they are trying to prevent one from buying/building in the country. I'm currently looking at a 38 acre lot with a lot of hills and ravines. It has a few potential building sites, but not that much for a conventional drain field. We shall see...
