Before every inspection I put the batteries in, when they leave I yank them out. The only smoke detector I need is my nose apart from that I smashed quite a few myself :)

At least you can reach yours. Mine has a back up battery that has beeped every 42 seconds for six years and now screeches about every 20 minutes. But it's sixteen feet up ON THE CEILING.

I feel bad for that FireX FADC smoke alarm that you smashed and killed with that sledgehammer. I know it’s really annoying when they go off nonstop but with me I NEVER smash smoke alarms. I also know of people that hit smoke alarms with brooms until they fall off the ceiling. Instead I do the right thing and replace mine if I find any issues with mine or if they are over 10 years old.
