I really don't get collecting sealed games (other than for museum display, like John intends). However people who get sealed games and keep them only in their homes, not playing the games is IMO hoarding. It's like Stradivarius or other classic violins, they are meant to be played and enjoyed.

The Zelda collection disc was also handed out for a small time by Nintendo. It was around holiday season one year and I believe if you purchased and registered at least 2 of 4 select first party titles on their site, you would be able to get the collection for free. I remember this as that's how I got my copy of it.

Same thing with Resident Evil: Code Veronica X as well! The PS2 version is like, $5 but the GameCube version is like $40-50. I recently found the GameCube version for less than $5 at a local record store because they must have not known that the GameCube version is usually priced higher, so sometimes you can luck out and find the more expensive counterparts for cheap.

I had the bundled metroid windwaker. It was a bestbuy exclusive bundled system platinum gamecube (that's why there isn't many copies available). I'm not surprised that you didn't know where it came from. I bought the system, sold the system to a friend for retail $99.00 and kept the bundled game sealed until I run out of money in 2009 due to the housing crash in the USA and sold the game for $200.00, it looks like it didn't go up as much in value as I thought but still. I got more than what I paid for it back then and don't regret it as It helped me pay the rent. I also had the zelda collection disc which was given for free when renewing or getting a new subscription to nintendo power which run for a few months back then. I also sold it for $100 a log time ago a few months after getting it from Nintendo power

I bough RE2 and 3 in great condition and they costed me 132$ canadian. Crazy expensive. Im not really a video game collector but i like playing the games in there best quality, so for RE its pretty much that one. Dreamcast would be a great contender too but i don't really have the space/interest to plug a dreamcast as there would be way too few games i would play on it. For RE1/0 thanksfully im cool with the new versions on Xbox One, there much better looking. Same with RE4. Eternal Darkness tough is only playable on Game Cube so yeah its annoying it cost that much. To say i had that game and paid it 15$ back then... arg

The two Zelda collections games--I actually DID buy both from the store; both from Wal-Mart. In each instance I was in their electronics section and asked if I could buy just them and the guy said sure. There's actually a story behind PSO Plus! The original release of PSO E1&2 actually opened the gateway to Gamecube piracy. So to cover their asses, Sega actually had a thing where you could mail in your copy of E1&2 to get Plus, because the biggest bugfix was what allowed Gamecube piracy. The content difference is that you can access the previously online-mode-only quests offline.

Gonzalo Duarte The best cheaper option would be to use a model 1 Wii with component cables. They are backwards compatible with GameCube games! You can even use your GameCube controllers and memory cards on it. It looks pretty nice, but you won't be able to use the Gameboy Player.

It's the exact same game the plus version only add 60hz mode and the some of the downloadable quests.. On top of that no fixes no new areas no nothing, and yes you can load your saved file from the original game since it is the same exactly fricking copy of the original..

NCAA College Basketball 2K3 is a fantastic game, worth buying for a couple bucks on the XBOX or PS2 if you don't want to pay $$$ for the GC version. If you are a Syracuse basketball fan it's a must own because it has the roster from their Championship team with Melo, GMac, and Hakim. GO CUSE!!

The reason any PSO game used to be difficult to come by second-hand is because there were game stores that would wash their hands of buying PSO from anyone in any iteration, due to how playing online worked. Your Hunter's License (how you paid to play online) was tied to your actual physical copy of the game, through your physical copy's unique license codes, which were part of the game's packaging (the GameCube games put them on a sticker) - which could be lost or destroyed, which would make it impossible to identify your unique copy to Sega when trying to sign up for a Hunter's License, even if nobody had played online with that copy of the game before. And of course, as with any code of that nature, once a license code was used by someone, nobody else could use it. This applied to the Dreamcast games, as well as the GameCube games. Therefore, given that online play is PSO's main appeal, any PSO disc immediately lost some gameplay value back in the heyday for a second-hand owner if either the original owner had played online, or had accidentally lost/destroyed the license code information. These days, of course, the only PSO server that Sega currently has active is PSO2, which is a PC game (free at that), so now, there's a different reason people don't usually circulate old physical PSO discs - the fact that you can't play online with them through official channels anymore regardless of the game's condition or whether it's been used for online play before. So PSO sellers have to be even more sure than your average game seller that someone actually wants the game they're trying to sell. Thus, many just don't even bother with offering.

J C - I don’t get the obsession with sealed products either. Wouldn’t it be funny if there was a manufacturing problem and some sealed boxes got out empty? They’d pass from collector to collector till eventually the one who paid the most finally opened it for some reason and...SURPRISE! My point being you never really know what’s really inside till it’s opened, right?
@absoluteclownworld

Xyrz Mxyzptlk if empty it would be pretty light and easy to tell. And if it was actually empty and truly factory sealed it would probably sell for more in the sealed game collector community.. lol sad

J C - Excellent point for cartridge games. Pretty easy to tell if the game’s in there, but discs would be harder to detect, especially with instruction books and other comparatively heavy items inside to complicate matters. You’re likely right about a sealed empty box being worth more to some collectors (not me). Guess you’d have to X-ray it or something though. I’m still not impressed by the whole “sealed” phenomenon.
