This is one of the most epic trips I've ever tackled. 8 days and 200k of some of the most beautiful backcountry paddling that Ontario has to offer. Multiple beach sites, lots of rapids, an epic waterfall and a couple of great lookouts will make this a trip you'll never forget. Although not for the faint of heart, with some time and perseverance, it's a trip anyone can undertake. Hope you enjoy the video!

@@ryansroutes1805 ya we enjoyed the trip. especially puddle lake( the one before mudd lake) With that horrible swamp with thick mud and a 100 meter dry river bed filled with massive rocks. Besides that and the horseflies the view was incredible.

@@Hahatome lol all part of the adventure. I remember Puddle Lake as well. I think my map showed that we might have been able to part of it but that was not the case! Glad you guys enjoyed the trip though! I hope you go back someday for more!

Awesome trip! I'd be curious to see if the lower part of the Sturgeon (to Kelly Lake) is worth paddling. Have you paddled it?
@ryansroutes1805
@ryansroutes1805 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Glad you liked it! I’ve never paddled down the Sturgeon that far. I’ve thought about it but it looks like the river starts to meander a lot before you make it to Kelly lake and in my experience that rarely equals a fun time lol. When a river looks like that on a map and isn’t travelled very often, it usually means lots of lift overs and not overly scenic. Although I can’t speak for the sturgeon specifically of course. If you ever do paddle it let me know how it goes!

Hey Ryan, we really enjoyed your video. This route is on our list for this coming summer. Can you tell me what time of year this was for you? I was hoping the water levels will be higher at Halleck cr. So we don't have to do a 5km portage 😢 Thanks again for good, honest content!!

Hey Ginette, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! We did this trip in the middle of July. I don’t know how easy it would be to paddle the creek since we didn’t get many views of it from the portage trail but from what we did see it looked pretty narrow and overgrown. However I can tell you that the portage is relatively easy, it follows a wide atv trail for 80 percent of the distance. Which is fairly flat and easy to follow. Even the last 20 percent is pretty easy. You’ll encounter much harder portages along the route imo so don’t worry too much about that one lol. Hope that helps you out! Let me know if you have any other questions : ).

2:41 Where is the trail to the Wolf Mountain Lookout from Wolf Lake? Jeff's maps seems to have roads shown but not a trail/bushwhack
@ryansroutes1805
@ryansroutes1805 5 ай бұрын
There is no trail up Wolf mountain that I’m aware of. Signs of a trail do appear when you get near the top ( last couple hundred meters or so). Probably because people end up on a common path right before the top due to the cliffs in most directions. The bushwhack really wasn’t that bad though. I believe it took us about an hour to make our way to the top and a half hour to get down. Just start at the closest point on the lake and work your way up through the less steep sections.

Great looking route, hope to mimic it later this summer. Looks like you were comfortable running the rapids, thanks for showing the lines. Would you recommend continuing down past Goose falls or exiting out where you guys did at Hammend?
@ryansroutes1805
@ryansroutes1805 Жыл бұрын
From what I saw I would recommend exiting out at Hammend. I would have loved to see upper goose falls and obabika falls but the meandering part of the river after that did not look appealing. I’ve paddled sections of rivers that look like that on maps ( Oxtongue and the black) and it has never been a good time unless you like lift overs and constant log jams lol. If you plan on taking on the Sturgeon I would recommend taking it on earlier in the season with higher water levels, which would probably make some of the more interesting rapids runnable. Best of luck and I hope this helps you out! Let me know if you have any more questions about the route. Thanks

Thanks! I was actually running two canoes through a lot of the rapids since my girlfriend didn’t want to run many of them. One is 13’ 6” and the other is 15’ 8”. Neither are very good for whitewater but I wasn’t about to lug my heavy whitewater canoe through all of the flat water and portages of the trip lol.
