This video is all about Stylocoeniella. What kind of tank is Stylocoeniella best suited for? I see can see this coral being used in a couple of different ways creatively. I can see it used as a ground cover in high energy SPS dominated tanks as well as lower flow mixed reefs with other stony corals. It is a very fast growing coral and can quickly cover rock work basically acting as a much more exotic replacement for encrusting corals such as Montipora or Porites in high light situations or Pavona or Cyphastrea in lower light situations. Years ago, before I got out of reefing and before anyone really knew about it, I had a colony of stylocoeniella that was a hitchhiker on some live rock. It was a metallic blue-green minty pastel color. It was beautiful and I wish I had some now that I'm starting up my tanks again. Too bad that was before cellphones and I wasn't into photography.

Your photography and information are amazing - top notch! My only suggestion is, it would be nice to see camera shots of the corals from a bit of a distance so as to get a better idea of how a colony would look in the tank. Since most hobbyists can't do great micro shots of their corals, it is helpful for identification to see coral colonies as you would see looking into the tank. Just my two cents!

I was so excited to see this video this morning because I didn’t know how to pronounce the name of this coral. I busted out laughing at my cubicle when I heard Than say he had no idea how to pronounce it. Lmao Nice video!

Since i have my reef Aquariums, i have everyday maybe 2 or 3 knots in my tongue. Just from answering questions of people. But i think its part of the hobby. xD

Any chance you can talk about the best/easiest corals to have in a tank that contains bubble tip anemones? I'm assuming things yhat are easiest to move

Hmmm I always thought it was Stylo Ko En Ella... Anyhow my first purchase of coral (from Fauna Marin) contained a coral labelled as one - but it doesn't have tiny goni like polyps - it's a gold psammocora I think. 2 months ago I got a Burning Banana - it's ALL burn and no banana - it's too happyin the middle under a slight overhang... and it has these crazy long sweeper tentacles - like maybe half an inch - like at least 10X the polyps. It is so happy though I rarely see the yellow. I am very much a fan of obscure encrusters - Pachyseris, Leptos, Psammo's.... It's cool because I think TD is the ONLY channel that covers them ;)

hey how do coral pests survive? i had some leathers like 6 months ago to start my way into coral, one had pests so i stopped getting more coral, tried to save the leathers but could not, i then treaded the tank for fish parasites, now everything is cleared up and im looking to get some corals, will those pests still be in the tank or would they die off from a lack of corals to eat?

I have always called it stylo-see-niela. But I haven't actually heard anyone pronounce it like that... I think in the original Greek, the c ia pronounced more like a ts like in the similarly confusing genus Poecilotheria, a group of spiders. Also, how aggressive are these guys? I have been kinda scared of them because they look like galaxia.

Scientific names are Latin, not Greek

@@trojon Many scientific names have Greek roots. The grammar and spelling are Latin, but the word roots themselves are often Greek. For example, Poecilotheria is a type of spider. It has the Greek root Poekilos which means spotted and therian which means beast. We use the Latin spelling, but the Greek pronunciation is preserved.
