Downside to logging out and back in to respawn asteroids. You also respawn the NPC pirates. So if you have a mining only ship, be prepared to lose some cargo or get damaged. As D2EA says, its just as easy to move on to the next asteroid. There's still plenty of them, even after the nerf.

Just use some guns mate, i just used main menu tactic with an Anaconda and there were pirates both times i respawned but i just baked them in like 30 seconds and went back to mining that i got 150 ltd in half a hour even if the rock was turning very mad so you can even mine way more than 300 ltd a hour with a stationary rock!!..

I'm a little late but great video still. I'm trying to get into mining and I'm struggling so far. Your guides are always great. I agree with what you said about synthesis. I only use it as a emergency option on most builds.

Those respawning methods seem ok for people just powergrinding, I like to put in a podcast or something and fly around looking for the stuff. It's much more entertaining imo.

Credit earning in this game is so incredibly broken. It blows my mind that LTD are STILL worth so much and/or that everything else (combat, explo, trade, missions) are worth so little. Wasn't the idea of this game to have a variety of VIABLE career paths? Right now, it's either mining or masochism.

The most efficient way to make an SSD asteroid respawn is to disable your ship's thrusters, launch a fighter, fly the fighter 25km away, disable its thrusters and switch back, re-enable your main ship's thrusters and put another prospector into the rock, re-mine it, disable your ship's thrusters, switch to the fighter, which is locked 25km away and switch back, re-enable ship's thrusters, re-prospect, re-mine, repeat.

I carry tools for all 3 types of mining on my mining ships. Lazers, missile, charge & blaster. Last night while mining I needed all 3. Careful going to that system though. I got pvp'd there twice in the last 2 days. Thankfully both times it was on my way in so my hold was empty. I moved elsewhere now lol.

I personally do core, surface and laser all at the same time. I focus on laser mining and sometimes my prospector hits a core asteroid and away I go. This been the most efficient way for me by far.

Can confirm on needing 2 SSM if over 200 tons. I carry 320 and often im down to the last few using a medium and small. But thats about to change, gonna move up to a Type 9 for mining. I also fly with no shield on my anaconda. More cargo room! #LiveDangerously Also, I always wondered if the single lines gave more than the others but never counted. I learned something in this video.

I'm starting to realize when it comes to mining , it is not so much what to look for but what to avoid what minerals would you say are not worth a limpets time to grab up? Like are their minerals so low priced that it is better to put them on the ignore list?

Just get low temperature diamonds everything else is quite crap :/ (I'm kinda late to this but hopefully you figured it out) current price of LTD(low temperature diamonds) is 600k per ton

SSM's require Tungsten among other things for synthesis. while you do get a good amount of ammo for it (unlike limpets) it is sort of costly to do so as Tungsten is a G3 or G4 material not easily came by except for material trading.

When you miss the blue part and waste the shot, it lower the number of time you can extract from the sub surface deposit? Is miss a shot important or it does not change at all

I think it's also worth equipping some mining lasers as a lot of these asteroids will have 20%+ of low temperature diamonds. So you can also mine while your limpets are collecting the chunks from the subsurface deposits. That way you get the most from each asteroid. Surface deposits and core mining are probably not worth the time if you're going for efficiency.

he needs to take Jingles under his wing. Jingles tends to read 5 year old reddit posts on Elite and follow them. consequently he's mostly doing stuff the hard way. he farms the Orrere anaconda because he read it on an old reddit post. there are WAY better crashed condas to farm now, no one uses the Orrere nightmare anymore.

Do you tend to make enough additional materials doing sub-surface to synthesize additional missiles or is that not sustainable? If not, is it possible to take one medium and one small in the case where you could run out but may not?

You do not get any additional materials from sub surface mining. One of the main materials required is tungsten which unless you have obtained it outside of a mining zone is nearly impossible to get while mining so that is a bit of a turn off. You could take 1 medium and 1 small to help boost the amount - i currently am running a SSD/Deep core set up with 2x abrasion blasters but realistically on something like a python you only need 1 so that would be an option.

You can hit the rock with a mining laser and recover some materials after you finish SSD and core mining. The amount of materials contained in the rock is listed at the bottom of the front left display when you have your prospector limpet targeted. It says "Material Content", and it's either Low, Medium, or High. The mats are mostly lower level stuff, but sometimes mid grade, and all dependent on if you are in ice, metal, or rock rings. Make sure your prospector is A-Rated to get the most out of the rock.

This is weird. I go out in the triple hotspot and try to mine close to the center. And it seems to take me over 2 hours just to get 100 tons of LTD. I'm also looking for the yellow rocks too. Am I doing something wrong?

I have mined several different single spot LTD Hotspots(some fo them more than once) since the update. I have only found 4 asteroids that had two Subsurface deposits (SSD). All of the rest have been single. I have not encountered any roids with 3 or 4 SSD. It can be a long time between an SSD I am starting to think that the overlapped hotspots do increase the SSD.

I'm an old elite player, but stopped playing wen my pc burned 2 years ago, and I went to a more affordable platform and bought a ps4, and didn't bought the game because i don't know if we can play or transfer my old pc account and didn't want to create a new one. Also since ps5 is coming out I don't know if elite is a enjoyable experience in ps4, and how many players, play on ps4... Sorry for the questions not related to the video. Thanks in advance.

only thing i dont like about the mini game is the missles have a high rate of failure, so you launch them and they die after making contact with the spot, sometimes i have to fire a few to get a charge to work.

FD broke it in order to address LTD's. They threw the baby out with the bath water. Meanwhile, other professions still pay terrible.

@@Droogie128 that's the point. If everyone was super rich, then wars would take an eternity. The destruction of ships depletes credits, which in turn, it slowly diminishes the amount of reinforcements the enemy player faction has to play with. Once you start to hurt your opponents credits, they back off. Thus, giving your side the victory. That's why having a large ship like an anaconda without the credits to respawn more ships, doesn't make you a very effective combat pilot. You need to have the funds to respawn atleast 5 ships without hurting too much financially.

I was under the impression that refineries were the exception to "the bigger the better" philosophy. Since, while only collecting 1 resource the 1A and 2A both hold substantially more of the minerals than a standard cargo hold of the same rank. I use a 2A while lazer mining for diamonds and haven't had much trouble. Are the chunks from subsurface that much bigger? Thanks for the runthrough, was concidering switching to ssd instead of laser. Very interesting, and enlightening.

@@figjam9530 Yes, I get that. He said as much in the video. Perhaps I could've been a bit more clear in my question. Because of the size and quantity of the chunks, is it necessary to have a larger refinery to process them? Would they bog down a 2A refinery to the point that you're waiting for one chunk to process before another can be delivered to be processed? I just want to be sure I'm not wasting valuable power/weight on an oversized refinery that could be better spent, is all. Kinda nitpicky, I guess and overall not super important, but still. 0.1 ly travel distance is 0.1 ly travel distance. Thank you for your reply.

Hello Dave, are you planning to update your advanced miners guide? I have never done mining, but going through your videos starting from 5 years ago, i am getting confused now as Frontier was making changes to mining along this way. I also thought that there are two mining methods: laser and deep core, but in this video you are saying that sub-surface is different to deep core and that’s where my head finally exploded :)) given its been 5-3-2 years to all your mining guides, maybe worth making a revised one…? Much appreciate your content regardless. o7

They generally glow bright yellow and orange with black / green hex mapping all over the asteroid and are usually egg shaped.

Last week, I went out LTD mining at the popular 3 LTD hotspot. I spent nearly 3 days to get a full cargo of LTD's/Void Opals. Why so long? Well one, I was working those days... but secondly? I've got about 11-15 hours of the day I can binge grind ED out of that day... 4am - 8. 5pm - 11:30... and with that given time? Lets just say lately, in more recently today... I went out mining. Spent all day playing ED. You know how much I gained all day? I'm using a Cutter with nearly 500+ tons of cargo, and I haven't gotten more than 50 so far... all... day. The hotspots are dry as hell, to the point where there is no point in going back.

Out of 90 missiles fired, I got three LTD's. They all just bounce off even when I hold the trigger down. Is there a certain distance I need to be before targeting and firing the missile?

Either you're hitting it at a shallow angle or its inside a crevice and the edges are blocking your shots.

You need to fire at a flat surface and the HUD targeting system will flash when in a firing angle. When the target system is flashing then fire and hold. And place the SSM into the centre of the targeting system flash.

i'm trying your method but for some reason I keep getting fissures instead of sub surface deposits. What am i doing wrong? Does this work with Void Opals as well

ah. Those are for deep core mining. That is also profitable. All it takes is 2 additional slots 1 being abrasion blaster and the other being a seismic charge launcher. Its one of those things where if you find it, by all means crack that rock open and gather the spoils. That actually used to be the meta to mining.

I'm wondering what I am doing wrong as far as finding viable asteroids to mine. I am pretty new to the game, but when I go to a triple or double overlap or to the very core of a hotspot, scanning yellow asteroids does no good. I've scanned some 30-50 on multiple trips and my contacts never include sub-surface LTD.

"Scanned" as in what? I think you still have to fire a prospecting limpet at it, which I know also says scanned. That's the impression I got watching videos as I'm about to try sub-surface for the first time.

Really great video but one slight criticism - difference between sub-surface and surface deposit. 'This little tab pointing up or down' - can't see it and you move on so fast. It seems really important and as a relative noob I'm really struggling with this. Probably just being an overwhelmed idiot.

As a 'more mature' pilot (Old git IOW 70+) I find my reactions are not quite as erm... 'sharp' as the younger people so having tried SSDM mining once ... and emptying 2 X missile magazines to no effect... I went back to core/laser which doesn't require the reaction speed of the average 5 yr old. ;o)

You didn't mention that a subsurface has a percentage per drilling out. 100% to 0% depending on the bad drilling or amount drilled out.

Laser mining in one of the overlap hotspots. Core and subsurface mining arent worth it as the pwa is bugged and scans behind your ship instead of the front. Also I think fdev nerfed the amount of subsurface deposits.

@@DowntoEarthAstronomy Please can you at least say WHAT materials your clothing is made from as some people are allergic to polyester or nylon or mixed fabrics. And the designs need to be worth £20 and NOT a CMDR logo that's not able to be customised with my name. And I would like the cost to be rounded up a bit, £ X 99p is better than £19.75, and LESS is MORE, less merch of clothing and more computer mouse pads, cups, computer skins for a laptops, simple stuff, clothing is a hit or miss now.

I want time efficiency and consistency. Egg+fighter exploit is EXACTLY what I wanted! So glad I've been doing this since a few days ago! I got credits to buy and maintain my Carrier, buy all the additional services, load up Outfitting with goodies and jump jump jump back and forth!

At the triple overlap ring in COL 285? I had the exact opposite problem - only found a single core ever, with SSD LTDs relatively rare but still around.

I'm guessing you have a good friend who is a dev at frontier cos i just spent 3 hours in the spot you gave plus another spot you suggested and found maybe 4 roids with low temp at sub surface. I only came back after 5 years away 3 weeks ago and so far I have seen nerf after nerf and older players reap benefits whilst newer ones get screwed cant say I shall be staying if the people running this game are tossers. Good video however the average guys gets shafted and takes 4 hours to get close so your either very lucky or well sponsored. Anyway not sure if I'll ever watch another thing about Elite depends how pissed off I feel in the mmorning.

Hi! I'm a new player, just a couple of months in and I'm doing fine. I'm closing in on 1 billion credits in assets, with a number of fully rigged and mostly-engineered ships for different purposes, including my main pair of a combat Krait Mk2 and a mining Python, for whatever takes my fancy that day. It's definitely possible for newer players to do well and take advantage of the advice @d2ea gives out. Hope you have better luck soon!

The rock you bumped into at 6:45 is being called by some 'The Egg'. It has four sub surface deposits. Here's how to reliably find it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z62oYMyV3trIh2Q.html What it doesn't say in this video, is what I do. I have a Python equipped to defend itself as well as sub surface mine. Once I have mined the Egg, I drop out of the game, then log back in. I then deal with the pirates, then get a second bite at the Egg and by then have filled up. My Fleet Carrier is parked one jump away, drop cargo off then rinse and repeat. The gameplay loop is much more rewarding than laser mining, which I often fall asleep during.

Main menu tactic works like a charm that i found a rock with 4 subsurface deposits and mined 150 ltd in half a hour but it was turning madly so it was painful a little bit!! Just find a stationary rock with 3+ subsurfaces then keep farming like there is no tommorrow that you don't even need a fast ship just cargo space and some Tungsten to refill but pirate attack is very likely so also bring some guns...

Is sub surface still worth doing? Simple answer: no way in hell is it even close to being worth it. After four tests, I only found four sub surface deposits in the specified system in this video. Those four tests took about one hour and thirty minutes to two hours each. It’s a constant struggle to find any deposits. You would be better off laser mining.

The nerf on the sub diamonds is so horrible. I'm considering quiting the game due to extreme Bordem. They are so far and few between.
