I am a 67-year-old who leads a dual lifestyle between my home in Tokyo and my parents' house in Ibaraki. Every year in October, it's the season for new rice. I have the freshly harvested rice polished every year and share it with the children's cafeteria.
I have also become familiar with the rice polishing facility and have truly become a local.
