Back in the 90s EVERYONE was getting in on the sports car market and some how this little oddball from Japan came along for the ride! But unlike most Subarus this one didn't pack the typical flat 4, and honestly didn't even have an option for a manual transmission!
With some very unique and honestly pretty attractive long hood sports car styling the Subaru SVX was an interesting car and a lesson in "what could have been". When you think of Subaru now you think of flat 4 cylinder motors with turbo, hood scoops, big wings, and that signature Subaru sound of the WRX and STi. This little 90s project... had none of those things. With a flat 6 cylinder, it's sort of kind of Porsche-esque? Also not having an available manual transmission but being marketed as a sports car.. it just was an odd duck.
This particular car is at the beginning of it's journey back to a fun life, our customer having previously serviced the transmission locally now bringing it to us to address some under hood issues. Anyone who's worked on Subarus will tell you there are certain services that are truly a pain doing in the engine bay and the 6 cylinder can be even worse SO, out comes the motor for some maintenance!
Lucore Automotive is a small independent american small business located just outside Columbus Ohio. While we are a full service shop that maintains and repairs countless daily drivers we are also well known for our work on classics, race cars, and collector cars.
We would like to thank all of our friends, fans, follower, supporters, subscribers, and most importantly customers for being here with us! Without the wonderful people who let us work on their toys, and help their dreams come true we wouldn't be in business!

Couldnt see anything I needed to see. Theres 2 lines Im going crazy over. The line coming out of the left side of the manifold, the singular line that comes out of the actual metal. And the lines in the far left corner on the passenger side. I cant find any references as to where these lines are supposed to go and no one has made any videos on it. ITs driving me crazy.

I'm interested in owning one of these things one day, how hard is it to get parts for engine rebuilding or the cost to pay a shop?
@LucoreAuto
@LucoreAuto 3 жыл бұрын
The parts are... somewhat available depending on what all you need. This thing wasn't in COMPLETELY terrible shape so the "bottom end" isn't in need of a rebuild. Most of the seals and gaskets you can even still get from Subaru. As far as the cost from a shop, it's really not that much different from rebuilding a WRX or any other Subaru. Many shops are scared of flat 4s and 6s but there's nothing totally nuts about them. Cost wise, you'll have a few thousand dollars labor (3-5) in a similar process depending on what all needs done and the shops labor rate.

You ever end up buying one? Iv bein driving 2g svxs for 11 years now on my third and they have all bein absolutely phenomenal cars. Only reason i changed was i killed my first in a accident playing, my own fault and the other one body needs work but im going to repair it. I just picked up a new body for 500 bucks. These motors are suuuuper easy to pull and work on. They are really cool bein built like a porche motor, or bettle. 6 bolts pull the motor off the transmission 2 bolts for motor mounts 6 big wire plugs 2 o2 sensor cords And 12 header bolts which points straight down nice easy access. Everything is easy to reach literally everything's for pulling the motor. The most annoying things are transmission lines and trust me do manual swap. Did one in 2 weeks and omg you can drift it very managbley with its power as is, and it has wicked balance so its not a handful.

Can you pull the engine from the top ?
@LucoreAuto
@LucoreAuto 3 жыл бұрын
COULD you? Yes. You would need to separate it off the transmission and likely pull the hood as well. But yes you could. These cars are built the way we take them apart and with the lifts and space we have, it just makes more sense for us.
