Years ago, I searched high and low for this information and could not find it. Well, I finally got my hands on a TR580 to shoot this video. So here it is how to identify and check the level on a Subaru CVT Transmission. The Subaru TR580 and TR690 are similar but not quite the same when it comes to identifying the Front Differential and Transmission Fill and Check Plugs. The information in this video is from a second gen TR580.

The transmission fill plug.....do you know the thread size and pitch? ie....is it M12x1.25???

I'm planning to do fluid change on this. The shop I use is using 881056 valvoline cvt transmission fluid, not the OEM subaru one. Is it ok to mix? I know drain and flush will not get all the oil out. Some people on forums claiming I should do it at the dealer but the dealer wants $150 more. Any thoughts?

Just made this same mistake, Just serviced the CVT fluid and was doing the diff. Caught it after I put 2 quarts of diff fluid in and was confused on to why it wasn't coming out of the one port. Now I just drained the transmission, pulled the pan and ran the extra CVT fluid I had through that same port to flush it a bit. It's Sunday so I have to head to the dealer tomorrow to buy more CVT fluid. Might do a fill and drain to flush out any remaining diff fluid and then re-fill the diff and trans properly this time. Feel like crap, I've done service for many years on all my cars. Lesson learned, don't slack off and check the book at each step, even if you know it.
