All these companies will regret discontinuing their budget cars when the economy takes a dive. People will stop buying these $45k+ SUVs unless there are DEEP incentives. Nissan should just go out of business already.

Sure but the smallest SUVs from the American brands are the biggest pieces of junk in the road. Ecosport, trak, renegade, etc barely make it through their warranty period before they break. People are going to need affordable, reliable and less complex cars once the country takes a nose dive.

It's also annoying when base models of the various affordable cars get dropped. It shouldn't be hard to buy a Civic LX, and they should bring back a DX trim. The Corolla LE better never go away either.

As manufacturers get rid of coupes, they also get rid of my interest in ever purchasing a product from them. I loved nissan altimas until they deleted their coupe. I liked the elantra coupe. The genesis coupe. The kia forte koup. The G35/37. The Cobalt coupe.... on and on. I don't have kids and don't need four doors or a big suv. I'm 39 and free. EVs and carbon credits are the death of car culture in the US. I'm lucky enough to have lived through the original fun coupes, like the eclipse gsx, supras, 240/270 and 300zs... firebirds, thunderbirds, TAs, vipers... I guess I've lived too long.

I'm with you except for the EV comments. If anything EVs are the way that coupes could be brought back. The problem is car makers have pushed consumers into thinking they want SUVs because it allowed them to get away with producing crappier fuel economy vehicles via the loopholes that were added into the law by lobbyists. The end of enthusiast car culture started a long time before EV's were a thing.
@andycalifornia426

@@falxonPSN Even if less stringent standards were the reason manufacturers pushed SUVs, we can clearly see consumers love the idea, and why would consumers change their mind when it comes to EV? Again, people were fine with SUV fuel consumption, so why would they care if an ESUV is less energy efficient than an E-sedan?

Fun fact: because Euro 7 would have meant the new M5 would have less power than the predecesor and BMW didn't want to have their flagship with 500-something horsepower go against the plug-in hybrid E-Class and A6 with over 700 horsepower they decided to go with the hybrid.

Throttle response for rev matching is most benefited by a lighter flywheel. While a non-linear throttle map or an ECU identifier to "see" a blip while the clutch is depressed and force a hard rev can help, a low rotating mass is the biggest benefit for revs, shifting, and heel-toe. The only counter you really need is just a slightly higher idle rpm to keep the engine rotating energy similar to a traditionally heavier flywheel. I hope they're not just making a more non-linear map.

@Xmvw2X
@Xmvw2X 24 күн бұрын
@@MKu64 They heel-toe just fine. It's just a low rotating mass makes it a good bit better. It's mostly a time problem, aka how long you have to hold down the throttle pedal to get the revs up. I've you're barreling into a tight 180 and need to bake in rev time into your actions, it's kind of annoying. The difference is a quick stab versus push and hold for a second or so until the rpms fiiiiinaly get up there.

I'm surprised Nissan didn't give up on sedans sooner. Their SUVs/pickups and sports cars are good, for the price, and they are pretty easy to work on. They must still have some contracts in play that's forcing them to keep making sedans. They just need to drop the CVT for a few years in their CUVs, or go to a full hybrid sun gear set like the old Chevy Volt had and a lot of the new JDM hybrid systems are using. There's no need to change the Z much for the price, the updated Z34 chassis is solid and the aftermarket is pretty ripe to modify/upgrade it however you like since a lot of the Q60 and 370Z parts transfer over (oil pump, diff, cooling, subframe bushings), unless they are going to start making it lighter, that would be pretty awesome. A real hshift track Z with solid subframe bushings would be nice also, call it the R-Spec or something! What a lot of sports cars makers are discovering is for pure ICE sports cars it's all about the natural driving feel and connectedness, not lap times any more because real car people want a relationship with their car and to build it over time with the parts they want, and soulless BEVs are setting the new lap records anyway. If I want to go fast and not shift, I have an EV commuting appliance, if I want to be connected to a vehicle with a soul, I drive my old G35 track day car I've put many years of work into, tore it down and rebuilt (wow just dawned on me it's 20 years old and still a blast to drive!). I do want more power so I'll probably get the new Z in a year or so and start the build process over again.

Porsche is the only car company that seems to increase the value of their previous models with each subsequent generation. They repeatedly rank among the top manufacturers for "Vehicles with the least depreciation". Seems like every time we get close to acquiring a new Porsche (either 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 or 911 Carrera T (992) in Shark Blue), they [Porsche] decide it is time for a change. The latter of which is important because Porsche has stopped offering the Shark Blue paint code which was the closest thing you could get to a Paint-To-Sample color. Now PTS is only available on their GT and Specialty models. I swear, being a Porschephile is a rabbit hole in itself. Nevertheless, I *_always_* appreciate these Weekly Updates, Matt. Thank you for your continual dedication to the channel. I look forward to the video covering your trip to Maranello, Italy. What an honor! Stay classy my friend.

The way companies are doing packages and trims these days makes no sense and is also often more expensive. The weird naming for Chevy, Ford and how the revamped the 2024+ F150 packages. I own a 2016 F150 and the way the new packages and trims are made it astronomically more expensive from 2023 to 2024 when I was spec'ing one out online. As if prices and interest rates aren't high enough let's make it more expensive to option things the way you want it. I used to own a few civic Si's and a 2020 wrx performance package, strongly considering a new premium trim wrx. They're selling near me for 32-35k and a few dealers have low interest rates.

For those wondering, the "Audi A5 family" will consist of the A5 Sportback (sedan/coupe-styled hatchback) and the A5 Avant (wagon). There will be no 2-door variants (at least not at the onset) nor will there be a traditional sedan like the A4 (rumor is China may get an exclusive sedan body style but this is yet to be seen in testing). That means the sedan, coupe, cabriolet, and allroad (wagon with plastic cladding and a lift) are all discontinued. The RS5 will be a PHEV with the same engine from last gen, in both Avant and Sportback forms, and the S5 will be a 48V mild-hybrid with a very small power bump on a new version of the previous gen petrol 3.0T. Unfortunately it is not known for sure if the Avant variants will be coming to the US, but I am personally somewhat optimistic.

This is one of the reasons so many countries are worried about cheap Chinese BEVs and EREVs flooding their market, they will shut down their native auto industry's push to put more customers in vehicles they can barely afford. I mean what are loans out to now, eight years in some cases? Now they are talking about subscription services if you even want to use the vehicle's infotainment that you paid for. I didn't feel like it at the time but I'm one of the lucky ones who's dad made me go out and help with working on the cars. Those lessons saved me thousands over the years, included being comfortable with used cars as my commuters. But yeah totally agreed, if certain car manufacturers don't want to sell affordable cars because the margins are "too thin", then let others import them for folks to buy.

Welp, discontinuing the gas 718 is supported by its sales, very nearly their lowest selling vehicle and likely the one with the worst margins, which probably poaches more profitable 911 sales anyway.

@@Accost2u The 4.0L exists (but it's a flat six, also a thing Subaru made until five years ago), but it's not enough to save the lineup. To be pedantic, the Cayman starts at $73k. Virtual zero base Caymans without options are sold though lol

@@thatoneotherotherguy yea true, I think Porsche let the ship sail on the boxster / cayman a while ago and the 6 cylinder cars were just a consolation prize. And you’re right, finding a base or even ‘S’ model sub 90k is essentially impossible but they also increased the base price by over 10k since 2020 without changing a thing.

porsche is in for a reckoning - nobody is ready for a full electric transition. They needed to go to hybrid. Period.

Porsche isn't on track for a lineup-wide "full electric transition" anytime soon. The gasoline Cayenne and 911 have long futures ahead of them. The 718 (which is one of their lowest sellers and probably poaches some 911 sales) and the Macan going electric is not going to harm their bottom line. They're getting to a pretty impressive point in their tech. The Macan EV has good specs and is going to print them money. Their clientele is basically exclusively people who can easily home charge.

Many of these German companies were virtue signaling or trying to please regulators who probably want people to just not drive at all. There are people who hate the German people who are running the show.
