Number 8 can be BOTH reflexive and subjunctive. Ella no duda que el programa se desarolle rapidamente. If it is not clear who is developing the program, then desarollar beccomes desarollarse. There is NO doubt in the first part of the sentence because it is what she believes; however, the second part of the sentence will still be in the subjunctive if the program has not yet started. When the program has already started then it would be expressed as: Ella no duda que el programa se desarolla rapidmente.

Hola Señor Belles: I would like you to clear up something if you can. I have seen in some text books about the subjunctive and the verbs CREER and PENSAR. I have heard, read and seen the CREER QUE and PENSAR QUE can also use the subjunctive, especially when used as a question. For example: Vanessa, ¿crees/piensas tú que yo sea una mala persona? (Vanessa, do you believe/think that I am a bad person). This question would mean that the person asking the question does not think of himself as a bad person while Vanessa might or might not think he is. Venessa, ¿crees que ese hombre sea rico? This question asks if Vanessa thinks if that man is rich while the person asking the question does not believe it to be true. Of course, both sentences can be written with the indicative: ¿Crees que yo soy una mala persona? But this (I have been told) has some sort of acknowledgement by the speaker that he is a bad person. Or ¿Crees que ese hombre es rico? which also implies that the speaker believes the man is indeed rich. Finally, I have also seen the verb ESPERAR QUE use the indicative when ESPERAR means TO EXPECT instead of TO HOPE. For example: Espero que los estudiantes llegan a mi clase a tiempo todos los días. This means: I expect students to arrive on time for my class every day. What do you think? Thank you for your assistance and time.
@senorbelles
@senorbelles 7 жыл бұрын
Hola, Pensar and creer definitely live in a grey area. I think that depending on the speakers feelings it can go both ways. I initially teach it one sided with my students so that they don't have to worry about the grey area. Later I explain that it kind of depends on the speaker and it can be either way. To your second question, yes, esperar can mean to hope or expect. I haven't seen it used the way you use saw it, but that doesn't mean you are wrong. If the teacher has a certain expectation and knows without a doubt that his/her students will arrive on time, I can see the indicative being used. I would say generally, however, that you are safer using the subjunctive with esperar que because whether or not you hope or expect something, there is still a possibility that what you hope/expect will not happen. This implies doubt which in turn requires the subjunctive. The unfortunate reality is the subjunctive is not black and white. Gracias por las preguntas y comentarios :)
@ESUSAMEX
@ESUSAMEX 7 жыл бұрын
Sr. Belles, Gracias por responder. When I lived and worked in Mexico I never heard anyone use the indicative after ESPERAR QUE but I have seen it only in some Spanish grammar books. During my time in Mexico, I would normally hear people using the subjunctive and even the future tense after ESPERAR QUE. For example: Espero que llegarán pronto. Is the future tense even allowed?
@senorbelles
@senorbelles 7 жыл бұрын
ESUSAMEX thanks for sharing your experiences, those are invaluable and better than any book. If you can use the indicative after it then the future would work, however, the present tense indicative can refer to the near future so it may not be necessary
@ESUSAMEX
@ESUSAMEX 7 жыл бұрын
No problem, Sr. Belles. Mexico taught me that not everyone speaks alike, even in the same country. I know native speakers from almost every Spanish-speaking nation, and even they have mishaps and strange outcome while speaking their native language. There is nothing more entertaining than watching two different nationalities ordering a beer at a bar. Each one has their own style and vocabulary.

Hello, question: the subjunctive, to my understanding is the use of que. The indicative, I am also seeing, has uses for que as well. So, I guess I am confused what the difference is.
@senorbelles
@senorbelles 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, que can be both in subjunctive and non-subjunctive sentences. The biggest difference is doubt vs certainty. Doubt = subjunctive and certainty = indicative

Eriks Bastidas hola, if #3 on the activity were to require the subjunctive then you would be correct. But “creer que” implies certainty so “hablo” in the indicative is actually correct.
