I wish Bella+Canvas would add a few options geared more toward sublimation to add to their line. I feel like the market right now is always going way toward cotton, or 100% poly, but it's harder to find a good mix in the middle. The tri-blend isn't bad, but what I would give for a tri-blend with a higher poly count- in the 70% range- so I could get some of that vibrancy back. If you are listening, B+C, how about some more 65 or higher poly blends for us sublimation folks! :)

I know this video is older but I'm researching sublimation right now and currently using screen printed transfers always on B+C. We know that sometimes when we print on poly blends especially with viscose we see scorching/shine where the press heats the shirt. Sounds like sublimation uses an even higher heat than we use so curious if you find there is a lot scorching when printing these? TIA!

Hi there! The high temperatures necessitated by dye sublimation will modify the substrate color and finish. If using an oversized heat press, that covers the entire garment, this result will not be as noticeable as when using a smaller heat press which is only pressing a portion of the garment. Additionally, the high temperatures necessitated by dye sublimation can scorch certain fabrics/colors, therefore, we recommend that you test your fabric prior to decorating.

Yep it'll work! It will be a little different out come since it has less poly (48% poly) than these used in the video.

I tested it yesterday on a Bella Canvas unisex shirt. Is it normal that blacks are more brownish when sublimating on Triblend? I wanted the vintage effect but i dont expected the kind of brown tones on my black Logo i tested. By the way i hop Bella Canvas will release a tighter fitting Shirt, more like a slim fit for athletic persons. Its very loose, the sleeves are very long and the overall lenghts is very long. I tried to downsize but then the shoulder is to narrow and its a bit to tight and its transparent. I hope for a more slim fitting shirt with a thicker fabric, not as transparent.

how do you prevent scorching the rayon and viscose using that much heat? i have seen burn marks on our heat press at temps 350 and higher using those materials.

A teflon pillow underneath can act as a cushion as well as a protective teflon sheet or blank sublimation paper on top of the printed paper will prevent those burn marks and scorching the fabric. Adjusting the pressure and timing will also play a huge factor in avoiding the scorch marks!

Basically anything below 90% poly you will get a faded look. i have tried all blends and tbh all are crap unless you really do want a faded washed out look but most of the time it looks bad. i have just gone back to using polyester for bags etc and for my own cloths i use sublimation flock and heat press to usually nearly all cotton hoodies and sweatshirts i did buy a 100% poly hoodie and god its horrid

The time for the poly/viscose was 30 sec, but what was the temp? And what was the time/temp of the slub? (He mentioned the triblend was 400 for 25 sec...)

I work a lot with the 50% Tribute-blend mix. I'm compiling a new season of designs and I would like to make Bella & Canvas integral to my range. I can only go up to 270° on my press, although I noticed you state 400° for 25 seconds! Is there a recommended heat/time ratio I can work with? I've had mixed results with Anvil/Gildan stuff for 180°/95 seconds

Hi. Thanks for the video. Can be used sublimation printing over CVC fabric? For instance 60% cotton/40% polyester? Or maybe 50%cotton/50%polyester?

customers love our 50/50 poly cotton. It does come down to preference as some prefer 100% cotton.

Sublimation is generally between 380 - 400 degrees for 20 - 35 seconds, but we definitely recommend you test the fabric with your machine before doing a big order!

Hi. I have a sawgrass Virtuoso SG 400 and your tanks are my favorite ones, the company I bought this from said it only works on polyester not blends. Is there a special paper or ink I can use? I haven't tried it on one of the tanks but wanted to see what you recommend. Thanks.

Hello! It should work as long as the content in the blend is high enough. DTLA Print recommends printing on a 65% poly blend minimum. Our Poly-Viscose (65% poly) and Marble (91% poly) collections are great options! Re: the paper and ink, that would be a question for Sawgrass directly. Hope that helped!

Brandy Henson Between 380 - 400 degrees for 20 - 35 seconds, depending on the fabrication of the tee. All fabrics should be tested and levels adjusted until you get the settings just right.

No, sublimation only works on light garment. Color is sublimated into the fabric through the sublimation process (the original dye of the fabric stays the same), so nothing would show up on a black tee.

Does it Fade Away after couple of washes?

The tee will fade a little in the first wash because the color won't adhere to the cotton, which is what gives it a more vintage look. After the first wash, the tee will remain that same color over time though. Hope that helps!

Hi! DTLA Print did adjust the pressure and timing based on the fabrication to get settings just right. We also used blank sublimation paper on top of the printed paper to prevent scorching.
